Mary Lynn Manton

Hello everyone, I am (Mary Lynn Manton) from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Nice to meet you all. I coordinate a degree program called Informatics & Security (IFS) at Seneca College in Toronto. I joined WikiEducator so that I could learn how to create and maintain wikis that are informative, educational and a destination of choice for the students and faculty in the IFS program. I look forward to getting to know you all.

Question: how can I insert an image of myself?

  • Hi Mary Lynn! Weclome to the workshop. To insert an image, you first need to upload the image using the 'Upload file' tool in the Navigation panel (Left side of this page. See also the screenshot below).

Abed

this is me

Hello everyone, I am Abed live in the Garden City of Ghana. A beautiful country on the Western Coast of Africa.I work at the same place with Richard Lamptey ie KNUST I work as a System Analyst and double as the Systems Librarian. I am interested in platforms that enhance the knowledge creation and sharing. I am actively involved in creating repositories for Academic Institutions in Ghana, advocating for open access initiatives and supporting Libraries in the area of ICT implementation and usage. I currently manage the University's Institutional Repository KNUSTSpace. I see wikis as one of the platforms that could be used to help in knowledge management and open sharing and collaboration.

(Comment.gif: Hello and welcome Abed! I agree with you, wikis are a great way to manage and share knowledge with others. You'll find that WE offers the support that you need to achieve this. --Benjamin Stewart 17:45, 21 July 2010 (UTC))

Mary Pringle

Hi all. I am a learning designer from Athabasca, Canada. I help to put undergraduate- and graduate-level university courses online. I teach online as well, which is tremedously helpful in designing course environments. I am happy to be an educator in this exciting time when we are looking not only for ways to use technology effectively, but also for a new understanding of what it means to be educated. I like tools as well as ideas, and expect to have fun in this workshop. I hope to apply what I learn to more effective design of wiki assignments for students. As I said in my profile, I want to make what I have learned useful to anyone who needs this kind of knowledge, so this is a great opportunity to learn and share.

--Maryp 17:59, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Mary, Canada is another of those places on my must see list. Hopefully you will get lots of ideas for using wikis with students while doing this workshop. Carolct 22 Jul 2010 10:55 am NZ
Hello Mary. I visited Athabasca University in 2004 and met with the some of the staff in the Learning Development Centre. I wonder if you were there at the time? <smile> It was a very interesting visit. I did a barn-building exercise on Wikied with students a couple of years ago. It was fun. --Bronwynh 01:14, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear Mary, Welcome aboard. We are almost neighbours physically, I live in Vancouver, but speaking in Wiki terms I am also your WikiNeighbour. Welcome aboard. Warm wishes,--Patricia Schlicht 18:38, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Larissa Buchholz

Hello. I am from Jacksonville, Florida USA. I work in the adult basic education field. I am excited to learn more about wikis. I've visited wikipedia many times, but have never felt bold enough to edit or create something. I can't wait to take what I learn now and apply it to the classroom and help my fellow colleagues. I think having open educational resources is such an important element in expanding education!

Larissa, it is interesting to have you here as you have been visiting wikipedia sites. You will find this course a place to be bold as you will be guided by colleagues on the course. So feel free to do something and do not feel bad when you make mistake because this is a place to learn and we are all learning from one another.
--Ojolubodun 16:50, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear Larissa. WikiEducator is the largest active online community of global educators around the world with over 15,000 users worldwide. you will learn very quickly how powerful it is as you go along and build up new international relationships that can also further your own ideas in an open environment. Good to have you with us. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:43, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Maria

I live in beautiful Regina, Saskatchewan which you can check out at GoogleEarth. Je travaille en français for the French Education Branch of the Ministry. I help schools infuse technology into their daily practices and am revising curricula. I am also President of CNIE-RCIE but know little about wikis simply as I haven't had the time to learn how to use them.

Hi Maria, I've been to Canada a few times, but never Saskatchewan (I live in New Jersey, USA). It does look beautiful. I see that Banff is not *too* far from you--I hope to visit someday. CNIE-RCIE looks really interesting--wonderful how it serves both French and English speakers. I didn't know anything about wikis when I joined WikiEducator. It's a wonderful community of learners very willing to share knowledge with each other. Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 17:09, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Alison, --

Hope that you can visit us some day as there is much to see. Banff is beautiful but is about a 10 hour drive from Regina. We tend to drive more to Fernie on the weekend for skiing. Welcome aboard!--Maria 15:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello Maria. I met someone from Regina, Saskatchewan in 2004 when I was attending a conference at Calgary and Edmonton. She was an academic at Saskatchewan University I think, and she ran an organic farm with white cattle. She almost ran it single-handed and was a feisty woman who had a cow"girl" look. <smile> She was fun to chat with. You will find it very easy to pick up the wiki concept. I just love using them now especially WikiEd. --Bronwynh 01:22, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

♦Bonjour, An organic farm with white cattle sounds interesting, I didn't know that we had one in SK. Thanks for the reply and welcome. --Maria 15:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Maria, welcome to the wiki workshop! It sounds like there are lots of people in Regina working on interesting projects. One of the Public Knowledge Project's programmers for the open source publishing software, Open Journals Systems, is based there too I think. Perhaps you know each other (Alec Smecher)?. Sigi Jottkandt

►Thanks for the welcome.  No sorry, I don't know Alec but you are correct in that we do support a variety of open source resources.  I would send you to some but work is being done on the server so they are inactive at this time. TTYL  --Maria 15:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Maria. We met at the CNIE 2010 conference in Saint John, New Brunswick. I was a member of the organizing group. I hope to go to CNIE 2011 in Ontario next year. Sue Davis

Hi again Maria, I am new to all of this too. The only way that I know of to reply to statements is to do so by clicking the edit icon. --Suedavis 11:21, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Sue, did you check out the question page?  Jenni from Australia answered with two suggestions.  She also added a Comments section to my userpage.  Hope this helps.--Maria 15:01, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Richard Lamptey

Hi! I am a Ghanaian working for the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi-Ghana.KNUST I work as a Repository Librarian KNUSTSpace. I am also actively involved in Open Access to Scholarly literature initiative in Ghana and capacity development activities relating to the use of ICTs including Web 2.0 and social media. My motivation for joining the course is based on the fact that I work with several colleagues located in different parts of the World. I am of the view that using collaborative tools such as wikis will make my work and that of my colleagues a lot easier. In addition, WikiEducator looks like a very good tool for remote collaboration and sharing of open educational resources. I therefore want to be very conversant with WikiEducator. I will do my best possible to introduce Librarians to this wonderful tool. My blog

Deb Stewart

Kia Ora koutou-Greetings all! I'm Deb Stewart, born in Christchurch New Zealand and currently living in the sunny Hawkes Bay. I teach at the Eastern Institute of Technology (EIT) in the areas of social services and adult education. Alongside full-time work, I am about half way through a Masters in Adult Education (Adult Learning Global Change) through Monash, Melbourne. I'm doing this course in a small gap in between courses on the Masters programme and was attracted, in part by the short time-frame for this course. I am a WikiEducator newbie (this is my third attempt to make a post to this forum!!) and have chosen this course for the learning experience and to understand more about ways in which wikis can be used in teaching and learning. I intend to use my learning to share with other learners, and hopefully to broaden my own learning opportunities. I look forward to the journey!

Welcome Deb, good to have an EIT person on board - give my best to catspyjamasnz. Looking forward to seeing your work. Richardnz 08:47, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Another EIT person. Seems there are a few of use here. I am doing a contract with Vit & Wine at the moment, and being "Joyce" on Fridays this month whilst she is away. Good to see you here. CarolCT 10:05 PM 21/07/2010 (NZ)

Jenni Hallett

Hi. I'm from Sydney in Australia and teach Biology and Science at Roseville College, an independent school for girls. I've been teaching for 15 years and am currently enjoying updating how I deliver some parts of the curriculum by trying out different web tools. I am privileged to teach in a very well resourced school. This year I have been trialing using a Wikispaces webpage with my Senior Biology students. The goal was to have more organisation of the links to online material and for us to communicate with each other more effectively. I feel my students have enjoyed this new way of collaborating. When I read more about WikiEducator, I was impressed by the idea of sharing resources so more people around the world have the opportunity to learn. This week I attended a professional development course about screencasts and think maybe I could contribute in that way to share some of my teaching with others.

Hi Jenny, Welcome to the workshop.. Seems you're already well versed in the wiki-ways..Will be great to learn more about the screencasts! --Sandhya 10:03, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hi Jenni, welcome to WE. You have registered twice with different email ID's, please visit the participants' table & see the Group C list click here. Hi Gita, Perhaps there is another Jenni Hallett in the USA who has registered as well?  I have only registered once as a Science teacher, Australia.  I'm doing fine for now but may have some questions for you later.  Thanks, Jenni

(Comment.gif: Hi Jenni, I see that you have already found likeminded people. Wonderful to know. Welcome to the Wiki. I hope you are enjoying this experience. Warm wishes --Patricia Schlicht 18:47, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

Betsy Lyon

My background is originally in Secondary Education, then Basic Adult Literacy and Numeracy in the Community Education sector. This then moved to workplace literacy and numeracy and training in the field of Workplace Training and Assessment. My Educational background is B.Arts/Diploma Education (History, English/Migrant English) then a further B.Education in Adult Literacy and Basic Education. I am interested in gardening, reading, cooking, travelling and family, especially my beautiful granddaughters. Currently I work at the Flexible Learning Institute at Charles Sturt University Albury Wodonga as a Research Assistant and Project Officer assisting with a Teaching Fellowship program which is to encourage more blended and flexible provision of learning at the university. I registered for eL4C41, a Learning4Content workshop to learn wiki skills for my own benefit as well as understanding what is happening with the Fellows in our program when they incorporate wikis in their projects.

Great to see so many from the southern hemisphere! Also good to see universities encouraging blended/flexible approaches. CarolCT 10:10PM 21/7/2010 (NZ)
Dear Betsy, Welcome to our Wiki family. You will experience very quickly the power of collaboration as we together are much stronger than each of us alone trying to do something. Welcome aboard. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:49, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Wayne Mackintosh

Wayne Mackintosh.jpg
I had the privilege of starting the WikiEducator project in February 2006 from a small desktop server based at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. Today WikiEducator is one of the world's fastest growing and most productive wikis in the formal education sector. It's great to see teachers around the world collaborating and sharing knowledge in this way. I have to say that WikiEducator has been the most rewarding project of my professional career as educator. If you want to find out a little more about my work in WikiEducator, feel free to visit my userpage. Recently, Otago Daily Times has published a short summary of WikiEducator. Welcome to our family and I'll see you in the wiki. --Wayne Mackintosh 00:53, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

  • Hi Wayne, I couldn't be prouder to be part of such a thriving community of worldwide educators who all follow a common goal, to make education freely accessible. Joanna Barclay

I'm from Chelsea, QC, which is a beautiful area along the Gatineau River, just 15 minutes of downtown Ottawa, Canada. Professionally I'm a certified group facilitator. My passion is bringing people together and building consensus to enable people to reach their full potential, at work, home or play. Another passion is yoga. As an Art of Living teacher, I lead public and corporate workshops on Yoga of Breath, teaching people how to achieve personal excellence by achieving greater peace of mind, health and happiness. Currently I am building a business practice around online collaboration with my colleague. The skills I learn through the workshop will enable me to move into the online world of collaboration, which is the next great frontier of collaboration in the workplace. Its exciting and I'm looking forward to the learnings. --Joanna Barclay

Hi Joanna, a pleasure to meet you in the wiki. I'm very interested in the potential of building sustainable business practices around open collaboration models -- Its sounds crazy -- but after this workshop and interaction with this community, you experience the power of open collaboration for sustainable and scalable business practice for the future ;-) Wayne Mackintosh 14:45, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Randy Fisher (aka WikiRandy)

I'm now from Ottawa, Canada, having recently moved from Vancouver, BC, where I had the pleasure of working with WikiEducator's founder, Wayne Mackintosh, at the Commonwealth of Learning. At the time, I supported the development of WikiEducator's community, and gave life to my online identity as "WikiRandy" - yes, that is my user name! These days, I'm working as a management consultant for the Intersol Group, in Ottawa, facilitating change, and online collaboration and engagement. I'm also an elected member of WikiEducator's Community Council. I have helped develop and deliver the Learning4Content courses - and I feel honoured to facilitate them, as well as give people an 'experience' of the dynamic power of collaborating with peers. It's been life-changing! Randy Fisher 00:40, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hey Randy - -great to have you on board! For the benefit of the workshop and those who don't know -- WikiRandy is WikiEducator's top editor with close to 25,000 edits! Randy is also the pioneer of numerous community building and community development projects here @ WikiEducator. Glad you could share and gift a little more time to our family! --Wayne Mackintosh 05:23, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Randy, good to have you with us. Always good to be among friends. Cheers,--Patricia Schlicht 18:53, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Shaun Vogels

I am a teacher in the Parramatta Catholic Education Diocese. There is a great deal of activity in the Diocese around open plan learning and implementation of technology in the classroom. I am what the current jargon would refer to as a technology immigrant as apposed to a technology native. We have been challenged to create Wiki's on Wikispaces for our students which is o.k. for keeping some material in-house based on Child Protection Legislation, yet does not have the power of the open learning and resource sharing capabilities of this Wiki. This Wiki Educator course seemed to be the ideal way of developing my skills and also being able to create powerful and accessible learning materials.

Hi Shaun -- I love the concept of "open plan learning". Hey in WikiEducator there are no technology immigrants -- we're an international family of educators collaborating for the social good of education :-). Seriously though -- almost half our registered users are over 45 years old (and I'm past the median threshold ;-)) -- Our motto is: Just try it: Our Community will support you. And you can be sure that the wiki's were invented long after 90% of the editors on this site -- in short, we all started at the beginning with no wiki skills. We're to help you -- enjoy the journey.Wayne Mackintosh 14:51, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Shaun - I like the term 'digital immigrant'.  It sounds a more together euphemism than 'e-muggle', which I what I tend to use to describe myself.  I'm trying to get the hang of wikis and worthwhile applications for them in the classroom while I'm studying e-learning through NZ's Massey Uni.  I get your frustration about the clash between wanting to open your students to the world, yet at the same time needing to ensure their safety online.  Cheers! - Alan Grant

Dr. Gita Mathur

My name is Dr. Gita Mathur. I am Associate Professor of Botany at Gargi College, University of Delhi, India. I have been a Botany teacher for more than 25 years. I am a trained Botanist, but over time my interests have diversified to issues related to environment, science education and innovations in teaching methodologies.
I strongly believe in free access to educational content and in collaborative learning not only among peers but also between a student and a teacher.
Besides my academic responsibilities, I spend a lot of time working on innovations in teaching Botany including designing experiments which can be done with minimum facilities. I am very fond of photography, especially close-ups of plants and flowers.
WikiEducator has given me many friends & a whole lot of students at the global level. I would like to help everyone who believes in open education for all. Please visit my userpage by clicking on my name here. --Gita Mathur 04:15, 15 April 2010 (UTC) It is also great fun learning through these daily tutorials, with facilitators to help you online. I have facilitated one F2F and three online workshops.

It would be very exciting to be able to see some of your pictorial botany work online. I listened to a fascinating discussion about 15 hours ago at Tech Talk Tuesdays on Elluminate (unfortunately, I cannot access the recording; it has a limited distribution). Perhaps you can gain access; the group is based in Australia, and the session was by John Pearce. At any rate, I look forward to seeing more of your work online.

Amanda Healey-Browne

I'm from London in the UK. Today it's a little hot and smelly, but the river Thames is sparkling in the sun and it's looking like it could be a good day. I'm an e-learning designer. At the moment I have the title of Instructional Designer, which is pretty much the same thing. I'm working on taking our degree courses and building synchronous and asynchronous versions for our VLE. What do I expect to gain from this? Well, it will be interesting to see how the project takes off and if there is content that will inspire me on how to use our wikis. Also, I enjoy meeting new people and learning from them.

Hi Amanda, London is nice when the sun shines. Welcome to the workshop. Richardnz 09:18, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hahaha, Wayne, you truly know your "African ways". Ponding would have ensued. But we are sure that this perhaps was a "message" to us not to take anything for granted. We shall do better in Brazil next four years. Thanks for your support. Its always a pleasure to join hands on wikieducator and as you can see, my team leader Benjamin Stewart has by far been the most active so far. If he dosnt get the final award, i shall be organising some ponding for you <smile>. Cheers!! --Victor P. K. Mensah 15:20, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Cathie Loesing

I am a Program Coordinator for the eMINTS National Center at the University of Missouri. We provide professional development for K-12 teachers on integrating technology into best practices instruction. Formerly, I was an elementary teacher and K-12 Library Media Specialist and Instructional Technology Specialist for the school district in Columbia, Missouri. I am interested in creating and providing OER for K-12 students and teachers.

  • I grew up (what little growing up I actually did (smile)) in western Missouri (Lake of the Ozarks region). I'm very glad to see you working for the betterment of students there. The teachers I had in the small, rural school there set me on a path that eventually led to my doctorate. Many of them had next to no resources and they were paid embarrasingly little for the work they did. I honour them.--Jrradney 22:57, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Dear Cathie, Welcome to Wikieducator. Many teachers just like you have been doing exactly that, incorporating their wiki experiences into the classroom with very good results. When we get to it, I will guide you along, so you can have a look. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:58, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

MRS MCGLOTHLIN.jpg
Everybody calls me Dee (my middle name). I am currently living in south central Ohio in a state forest. I have been a classroom teacher, served as a building technology coordinator, a district technology coordinator, director of technology and professional development and am currently an educational technology consultant. My work/educational background is focused on grades 1-8 (all curriculum areas) and K-12 technology integration. I have earned a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction and am currently working on my dissertation in Instructional Technology hoping to finish my research in 2011, focusing on Developmental Learning Theories and how it applies to teacher created online learning. I am also the owner of Instructional Technology & Design, LLC. I have limited experience with wiki's and am always looking for new things to learn to apply to the K-12 learning environment.
Welcome Dee to the workshop! I would like to learn more about your research interests as well as your plans for creating OERs. Perhaps the two will relate to each other. --Benjamin Stewart 00:09, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hi Dee, You are at the right place, I am looking forward to reading your contributions to WikiEducator. A person with your background & interests will help us all become better teachers :-)Welcome here.--Dr. Gita Mathur 01:36, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

Welcome Cheryle, to our WikiEducator family. You have joined the largest active online community of global educators and will soon experience a large network of friends and associates that will assist you when you call on them, to help you fulfil your own visions for Open Education. Alanieta Lesuma-Fatiaki

Bula everyone, I am from the Fiji Islands and I work as an Instructional Designer at the Centre for Flexible and Distance Learning (CFDL) at the University of the South Pacific (USP), Fiji campus. My work as my position suggests entails providing instructional design advice and conducting professional development workshops in ODL to our three faculties; Arts & Law, Business and Economics and Science, Technology and the Environment. I signed up for this workshop because I am inspired by the vision of Dr Mackintosh and have been visiting wikieducator for quite sometime but have just decided to make an active commitment to it by registering. Also, our section is treating this as a "starter" to knowing more about OERs which will culminate into our own in-house workshop in the coming months.OERs is also one of my many areas of interest. I am currently involved in an OER project that is funded by EDULINK which is ending soon but many of you may be interested to know more of it.I must admit that I have stayed away from wikis for years now simply because my first experience was not too pleasant. If I can remember correctly I started experimenting with one of the freely available wiki applications (can't remember the name!), I switched to Jotspot which I found user-friendly but had restrictions due to its user pay conditions, then I started getting back to it when Google purchased Jotspot and made it Google Sites so that is my current fascination at the moment and of course adding onto that is Wikieducator which I look forward to knowing more about.

  • My good friend, Paul Lomavatu (from Fiji), will be excited to learn I have a fellow student in this course from Fiji (as well as others from Tonga and other Pacific islands). People in my small town of Williams Lake are amazed at the contacts we make in these worldwide courses. Because I used to work with a group concerned with the status of minority languages in the world, I have close associates working in the Pacific Islands, as well, one with the Lengo people in the Solomons and another working with Niue. Distance learning in such situations (for training in language documentation, translation, and curriculum development) is such a key system to get implemented! I hope you will be able to extend your work into this area soon. I am happy to have you as a fellow student in this course.--Jrradney 23:04, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Ala!!, good to See you here - seems a long time since your visit at the VCILT in Mauritius - You're going to really enjoy the workshop..and I'm so happy to be seeing people I've known in other projects join Wikieducator! --Sandhya 10:07, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Alanieta -- I couldn't agree more -- WikiEducator's vision is inspiring and represents a return to the core values of education, that is to share knowledge freely! You are now part of a team of thousands of educators around the world collaborating on the development of teaching materials we can share. Let's make OER futures happen for the Pacific region! --Wayne Mackintosh 07:51, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Alanieta, I would like to read more about your contributions to OER's particularly as a science teacher. We may even collaborate on subjects of common interest. Wayne's initiative has been a great source of inspiration for so many of us. Happy to note that you believed in WE and decided to join this community of teachers & educators. Warm wishes.--Dr. Gita Mathur 01:44, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Alison Snieckus

ASnieckus.jpg
I joined WikiEducator in January 2009 and have been relatively active this past year and a half in creating and organizing content pages on the wiki. I remember I came upon WikiEducator's main page that winter day in 2009 while wandering among educational content on the internet. I was taken right away with the idea of educators coming together to collaboratively create learning materials, that I could be part of authoring and designing content that anyone could access and that it doesn't need to be published in a hardcover textbook. Wow. Pretty powerful idea. I'm not sure why, but I didn't sign up to take the next scheduled Learning4Content class, choosing instead to self-study using the tutorials. I regret that decision now, having seen how much fun L4C participants have during the workshop. I'm hoping to make up for my loss by joining eL4C41 as a facilitator in training. I've got some learning to do.

I live in the USA, near Trenton, New Jersey. I'm an educator, currently teaching statistics to secondary school students and in the fall, statistical methods to graduate students. For the last ten years I've been homeschooling my two sons, but this work will soon come to an end with my younger son being a senior in secondary school next year. Through WikEducator I've expanded my understanding of education in other parts of the world and collaborated with some wonderful wikineighbors. I look forward to our upcoming collaborations in the wiki. --Alison Snieckus 16:09, 29 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi Alison, a special word of thanks for all your support in helping set up the workshop -- a lot of work behind the scenes. Your contributions on improving WikiEducator's category systems and ground breaking in developing the Community Workgroup Policy will serve our family long into the future. BIG thanks. --Wayne Mackintosh 23:33, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Vilimaka Foliaki

OpenDay.JPG
Hello, and Ni Sa Bula. You can call me 'Vili'. I am from the South Pacific island kingdom of Tonga, and I am currently working as a teacher educator at the University of the South Pacific in Suva Fiji. Prior to my moving to Suva, I was teaching NZ Bursary Biology and Chemistry in Tonga. I like teaching and helping people learn.

I've been living in Suva since 2003, even though I was a Suva resident in 1980s for 4years while I was still an undergraduate student at the University of the South Pacific. Spent two years in Perth, Western Australia doing posgratuade studies at Curtin University of Technology. On the midnight of Y2K, I was with my family at Kings Park, outiside Perth City, looking down at the city traffic lights to see whether they would go off at 12:01am. They didn't. Got back home at around 2am that night, disappointed to find my computer (with an unfinished Masters thesis) had not crashed.

It is indeed a pleasure to meet you, and I'm looking forward to working closely with you here to ensure that quality teaching ideas and resources are free and readily available to everyone. Thanks Alanieta Fatiaki for directing me to this wonderful network.

If there are keen moodlers, tech-savvy science teachers out there, please don't hesitate to share your ideas.

Hello Vilimaka! I remember the big Y2K scare, as if the entire world was going to reach a screeching halt. I too am interested in teacher education and I look forward to your insights over the next few weeks. --Benjamin Stewart 04:22, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks Benjamin! Looking forward to a furitful collaboration in the workshop.--VFoliaki 16:55, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Petrea Redmond

Redmond P07TN.jpg

Hi everyone. I'm an academic at the University of Southern Queensland in Australia. I live in Toowoomba and was previously a business and computing high school teacher.  Things have changed a lot since then: we were just starting out with the Internet, after having an internet simulator when I left.

I work in the area of teacher education and I'm using a wiki as an assessment item this semester with my student teachers. We are starting with the development of a collection discipline specific resources (e.g. text books, URL's, video's) with annotations. I'm hoping to get some tips from this group both in the area of setting up a better wiki and secondly ideas on what to model and share with students about improving their contributions to the wiki to gain a more professional outcome.

Hi Petrea, Welcome to WikiEducator! I'm interested to hear more about how you are using a wiki for assessment. I've learned so much about how to work in a wiki through my participation in WikiEducator. I hope that someday the learning resources that I use as a teacher will be part of WikiEducator--I'm working on that--not there yet:-). There are quite a few very professionally designed resources on WE. I'm happy to point you to my favorites. Glad you have decided to join our community. Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 20:40, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Alison, my assessment so far is a number of pages in a free wiki: some started for the students, which has links to URLs, names of books, video's etc that my pre-service teachers can use in their teaching. Each resource will be annotated. The aim is for the whole class to populate it, edit etc and then reuse the resource over the next few semesters. I'm hopefuly they will come back to the resource over and over: if it is useful. Am interested to hear what your and others favourite are.

Petrea

Hi Petrea, hello again! I met you at the SITE conference in San Diego this year - what a small world!--Keryn Pratt

Keryn, the world is definately shrinking ;-) How are you planning on using a wiki?

Patricia Schlicht

Patricia Helijet.jpg
I have been working with Dr. Wayne Mackintosh, the founder of WikiEducator since the get go of the initiative, in May of 2006. I have since then gradually increased my understanding, skills and involvement in Open Education and the use of and integration of open source software. It has been a privilege to see how one country after another has made use of this technology to make a difference in their own environment. WikiEducator has become the most exciting experience of my professional career. I am passionate about learning. I actively facilitate online workshops on WikiEducator as community volunteer in my spare time, in an attempt to build capacity for WikiEducator around the globe. I am interested in social networking--Dr. Gita Mathur 08:36, 25 July 2010 (UTC)}}, culture/anthropology, open and distance learning/eLearning, community and capacity building. I am a philanthropist. Feel free to email me Hello Patricia! I share your passion about learning as well as the desire to share one's knowledge with others. It thrills me to be sharing this wonderful experience with you. --Benjamin Stewart 00:21, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Patricia, could you imagine when we started the Learning4Content project in January 2008, we would have provided free training opportunities to more than 4200 educators around the world -- culminating in the inaugural WikiEducator Gives Back workshop with almost 400 participants from 50 countries! Wow -- go WikiEducator, go! It's now our turn to give the gift of knowledge to share our facilitation experiences with a cadre of new volunteers to scale up our work internationally. Tireless effort gets rewarded when we share freely :-) --Wayne Mackintosh 05:19, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hi Wayne. I remember the time very well. Absolutely love to share this with our new friends and give back what I once so generously received myself. Cheers, --Patricia Schlicht 03:27, 22 July 2010 (UTC))

J. Randolph Radney

Radney.jpg
I'm one of the newer co-facilitators beginning work with WikiEducator in this workshop. I own and operate an academic coaching business in Western Canada, offering consultation and support for students taking university courses in class, by ITV, and online. I believe people worldwide should be able to get the education they want without leaving the communities they love. I am happy to be working with WikiEducator in a more 'open-concept' environment. As I get more experience helping and learning in this environment, I believe I will be able to improve the coaching I offer. For more on my work as a WikiEducator, see my userpage. The web pages that describe the business I operate will give a basic idea of my education vision. I have also started a Diigo list for members of this learning community. Diigo is a free service for online social bookmarking. Community members can apply to become members of this group by browsing to the site and clicking the button to apply for membership. I have already posted the main links to this workshop, and others will want to contribute additional links as time goes by.

Hello Randolph and welcome! I have been a big fan of your Diigo alerts (via email) for some time now. Your work there is incredible! --Benjamin Stewart 00:23, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: Yes, I find Diigo a very fun and convenient way to store bookmarks online, so I have them wherever I log on to the Web from. But the addition of groups, such that I can work collaboratively with my students to create subject-linked bibliographies of Web resources is a fun class and online activity. In fact, my students get so excited about social bookmarking that they use it in other classes, at work, and to coordinate family and other social activities. I love giving students something they can use outside of school. That's a big reason why WikiEducator is so important to me; I think it brings learning back into everyday life in a big way.)
Hi Radney -- help me out -- do you prefer Randolph or Radney? I see you sometimes sign as Radney - so a little confused. Glad you could help us out --- you're a natural online facilitator and your experience shows :-) Welcome to our family. --Wayne Mackintosh 05:27, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I prefer to be called Radney and almost always sign email messages with radney, primarily because my usual first name in a North American context (Randy) is rather uncomfortable as a moniker to some of my colleagues in Commonwealth countries. I have never gotten used to the more formal 'Randolph' in most contexts (and maybe I'm a bit envious of the more common British practice (I'm told) whereby school chums refer to each other by last name as a sign of affection). Also, the family name 'radney' is quite uncommon, so there is a smaller chance of ambiguous reference in groups. --Jrradney 00:30, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Radney. Thanks for doing all that you do. It means a lot to have you on board. Warmest--Patricia Schlicht 19:08, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Jenni Parker

2007-Jenni 144x144.jpg
I'm a new co-facilitator with WikiEducator and this is my first workshop. I live in Perth, Western Australia and am semi-retired. I work as a sessional lecturer/tutor at two universities here in Perth, Edith Cowan University (ECU) and Murdoch University. My teaching areas are: Workplace Learning and ICT in the classroom. I am also a volunteer co-facilitator / co-administrator for Integrating Technology.org where I co-facilitate Moodle For Teachers Online Workshops for Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced levels. I believe online learning should be an engaging and authentic learning experience that reflects real-life tasks that we can use for everyday living and working. If you want to read more about my studies, work and interests visit my WikiEducator userpage.
  • Hello Jenni! What a small (virtual) world! It's amazing how we keep running into each other through different online communities. I look forward to sharing this learning experience with you over the next two weeks. --Benjamin Stewart 23:42, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Hi Jenni - -judging by your video introduction you are both a passionate and very capable eLearning facilitator -- WE are proud to have you on the team for our WikiEducator Gives Back workshop! --Wayne Mackintosh 05:30, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Hi Jenni. Good to meet you as well. I hope to be able to use new technologies at the university level even though we get a lot of pushback from faculty members. --Ken Matthias 10:54, 21 July 2010
  • Hi Jenni! Glad to know you are from Perth. I lived in Como when I was at Curtin a few year back. I didn't get the chance to visit Edith Cowan but I once took a drive to Murdoch uni. I love Perth, the river, and Cottesloe Beach. Welcome to workshop.--VFoliaki 16:20, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

SRODDICK.jpg

Shona Roddick

Hello I am an Educational Designer and have recently returned back to New Zealand after having spent some years in Britain where I worked as a training analyst for the military. I am currently working for Symbiont - a company specialising in providing adult education training and resources (online, distance, blended and paper based) both nationally and internationally. Quite a bit of the work I have been doing recently has been paper based, however I am going to be moving towards a more online platform. I wanted to do this course to see how this could be achieved, the opportunities available through such capabilities, and the ability to network with other likeminded individuals. I hope to strengthen and develop my design skills in a different arena to create powerful, accessible and up to date material for my clients and students. SRODDICK 04:20, 20 July 2010 (UTC)Shona Roddick

  • Welcome SRODDICK! Please include your name in the heading above so we know who you are. --Benjamin Stewart 04:10, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
  • That was fast, good work Shona. If you include a signature at the end of your text, others can find your user page - it's a great way to begin networking with others. The tenth button from the left of the toolbar above will automatically insert your signature...just like I will do now: --Benjamin Stewart 04:17, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Jun Asis

Mabuhay! (The Filipino greeting which literally means "Live!" (verb), but also implies, a hearty welcome, a big hello and it's great to see you.) I'm from the Quezon City Philippines. I was in the academe before (am now an IT trainer in a data center) and am interested in tech for learning. It is my hope that I will be able to help in making access to education/information easier and learning more effective and efficient (in schools and out-of schools). My vision/dream is to build a "school" where anyone, anywhere and anytime, will be able to learn and get the education that they need with the least cost and maximum benefit. --Jun Asis 06:31, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Jun and welcome to WikiEducator. Love your vision/dream...I totally agree, my dream, too. I believe that quality OERs (open educational resources) created and maintained in a collaborative environment like WikiEducator can help us achieve this goal...together. Glad to meet you. Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 22:18, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Supten Sarbadhikari

Supten-070710.jpg
I am from India, currently a resident of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. I have just started a new Institute that intends to bridge the divide, between traditional classroom teaching and real-life problems, through applications of ICT in any domain. I firmly believe that the Web 2.0 tools of wikis, blogs and podcasts and the application of Web 3.0 or semantic web will change the mode of education in the coming years. Supten 07:29, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Please feel free to Email me

Hi Supten, Welcome to WikiEducator. I totally agree with your vision of the future of education. The technological tools of today and tomorrow are the basis for a new way of thinking about education. And it seems to me that the creation and maintenance of open educational resources (OERs) in WikiEducator can help sustain this new way of learning. Glad to have you as member of the WikiEducator community. Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 22:26, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

hello Supten, Great ideas and visionaries always succeeded. All the best with your ideas, do benefit from this workshop and WE family. Your neighbour: --KD Shijo

I am a Technologist at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) - Soil Research Institute (SRI) in Kumasi Ghana. I completed Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology with an honours degree in B.Sc. Geomatic Engineering. Due to my training and hard work at the Geomatic Engineering department, i was requested to be a teaching assistant and a GIS administrator of the department. My area of specialization includes: GIS application and Analysis, Soil evaluation and Classification, Remote Sensing and Photogrametric application, Idea sharing, Data management and Web 2.0. I signed up for this training because i believe wikieducator and the tools of Web 2.0 is the future of recent technology and socio-economic development. However, this training will equip me to carry out better research findings and also get people with diverse ideas on my projects. My wiki pages is: http://wikieducator.org/User:Nana_abrefa
Hello Nketia and glad to have you as a participant in this workshop. You have come to the right place if your goal is to share ideas and network with others who share similar interests as your own. I think you'll find the support you need to set up the projects you are interested in, and will provide opportunities for others to contribute to your work as well. --Benjamin Stewart 00:33, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Michael Verhaart

Michaelv100.png
Hello everyone. I am a lecturer in IT at the Eastern Institute of Technology, in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand. An area with two cities, Napier and Hastings known for its sun, wines and Art Deco Architecture. Having just finished studying (part time over 8 years) I have been exploring the use of wikis to deliver content and learning experiences to my students ( virtualMVwiki ), and am keen to share some of the my learning.

If anyone has a brilliant idea for a wiki project (all ideas are brilliant really!) that they'd like some help with I'd love to do something that doesn't involve Information Technology for this WikiEducator workshop (in a previous life I used to teach Mathematics and Science at High School).
80px-Wikineighbour V2.pngHello Michael and welcome to the workshop. Your wiki is impressive, thanks for sharing. New Zealand is one place I'd love to visit one day. --Benjamin Stewart 04:40, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Mwave.gifHi Benjamin. Thanks for the welcome. I must admit that it does take some time to come to grips with this whole wiki thing, but my students are giving me positive feedback which encourages me further --Mverhaart 11:44, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I know what you mean, I learn from my students on a daily basis. --Benjamin Stewart 03:08, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Benjamin. I see you have added the wikiNeighbour icon too.. thanks :) --Mverhaart 12:37, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, but I like yours a lot better. --Benjamin Stewart 03:08, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Michael. I've just had a quick look at your wiki - it looks amazing. I've put my name in by keying in the same format as yours above and then keyed in the date and time. There must be a quicker way of doing this? --SallyWoods 10:23, 22 July 2010
(Comment.gif: Hi Sally you just hit the signature button above and in inserts the username and timestamp code for you or put 4 tilds together to get the same effect. Carolct 04:56, 22 July 2010 (UTC))
Duh! Thanks Carol - here goes --Sallyw 09:57, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Michael -- great wiki project! I'm very impressed. Are you aware of the OERNZ project which is building a national commons of OER for the school sector in New Zealand. You may be interested in a Bounty project to develop an OER wiki exemplar or becoming a New Zealand Wiki-facilitator and running a few wiki-taster sessions in your area. With apology to the internationals -- this is a project funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Education -- but a good example to replicate in other countries! --Wayne Mackintosh 11:11, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Wayne -- neat to have made contact finally. Enjoyed dropping in to see Peter/Bronwyn and Sarah in your office a week or two ago, they speak highly of you and your work. Sounds like lots of projects to get involved in (wonder if I can squeeze more hours into a day ??). Up until now have been working pretty much on my own but looks like EIT have excelled in the number attending this workshop - including one of my students (Steph - Hesperidesnz) which is cool --Mverhaart 11:03, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello, Michael: my downstairs neighbor is also from NZ... Do come to Hawaii for your next conference.--Gmflin 02:28, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Michael - might see more of you here than f2f for the next few days, although coffee sounds like a good option for sometime soon --Debznz 12:38, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: Hi Michael - I see your virtualMVwiki is creating some interest, (very cool!!) :) --Hesperidesnz 08:05, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

Elaine Huber

Hi I'm Elaine from Sydney Australia. I work at Macquarie University as an Educational Developer, which is like an eLearning consultant and an instructional designer and a workshop facilitator all rolled into one. I really enjoy the process of learning and teaching and although I feel i know a lot about wikis i also know there is plenty more to learn. In fact there is always more to learn. I think i will be a lifelong learner - I hope I will be. The reason i joined this workshop is to learn from others and to share my ideas for great uses of wikis. I'm also interested in the obstacles and hurdles of using wikis in education and how people overcome them.

Hello Elaine and welcome. There's a strong Aussie contingent here; your job sounds a lot like mine. (UTC) Richardnz 09:22, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

I am a scientist and use wikis and similar collaborative environments for many aspects of my work, including lab notes and teaching. I am here to find out how others use (or plan to use) wiki environments in educational and related contexts (particularly in the developing world), and to play with features other wikis do not have. I also recently took part in "I'm a Scientist", an interactive experiment that brings together school kids and scientists to discuss anything related to science or the life of a scientist. --Daniel Mietchen 12:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Daniel, clearly you are already an accomplished wiki user, be great to hear your thoughts and ideas. Welcome. Richardnz 09:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Richard, thanks for the welcome! Just posted my thoughts on open approaches to educational resources. --Daniel Mietchen 14:38, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Jibril TOUZI from Cameroon, I lived in Burundi (a small country in East Africa) since two years, where I worked as Network Administrator with Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) and Trainings Officer at the University Agency of French-Speaking. I'm passioned by Information Systems/Technologies, Free & Open Source Software and Open Educational Resources. When it's possible, I try to bring my contribution to the MDGs through ICT. I have been facilitator for several trainings on the Web 2.0 and wiki (online or face to face), especially in French.
Hi Jibril, great to see you in the workshop -- and thanks for joining in and providing your support. You're far too humble -- Friends, Jibril is the pioneer behind getting the French WikiEducator started. Viva Africa, Viva! --Wayne Mackintosh 23:47, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Everyone, I'm currently an Instructional Designer and system administrator for our campus version of Desire2Learn and Wimba. I also teach courses in our Hotel & Restaurant Management program. I work at a Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, TN (about 30 miles north of Nashville) but I'm originally from Chicago, IL. In a former career I was in Hotel Food & Beverage Operations Management and had an opportunity to leave that world for the academic world. It's been an interesting but fun switch and I've really had a chance to learn all kinds of new things in higher education. I have been at the  college for nearly 11 years now. My professional interests include using wikis and blogs in the classroom, and building more interactivity into online courses. I am looking for new ideas for incorporating wikis into the teaching process.
Hi Mary nice to meet you. I too am enthuesiastic about making online learning authentic, engaging and interactive. I look forward to connecting with you online. :) Cheers --Jenni Parker

Steven Diaz

Hello World! I'm Steven Diaz.
Hello There! I am a developmental math instructor at small private university in Miami, Florida. I also facilitate online math courses for two other higher education institutions. I am currently pursuing a Doctor of Education with a specialization in Educational Technology. My interest is creating interactive and engaging learning environments in which my students have relevant, memorable, and fun learning experiences with mathematics. My goal is to create math awareness among my students on how mathematics play a vital role in many things we do in our lives. I am learning how to use several web2.0 and open source tools to achieve this goal. One particular area that I have started gaining interest is using visuals and digital storytelling to "hook up" my students' curiosity in mathematics. I have a basic knowledge of what wikis are, but I have yet ventured using one in my instructional practice. This is the reason I am here...I want to try this out! I look forward for this learning experience. If you want to learn more about my successes and failures as a math instructor, I invite you to visit my website www.theEdDjourney.com and my humble blog beawaremathiseverywhere.blogspot.com/. You can also follow me in Twitter: twitter.com/CafeRico. Nice to meet you all!
Hi Steven nice to meet you. If you want to "try out wikis" you have come to the right place! Cheers --Jenni Parker

Hi Steven! I have been following you for some time on Twitter and have passed along the great resources that you post to faculty at the New Brunswick Community College. It is good to see a familiar face in the group. Sue Davis @NBCCSue

Ken Matthias

MatthiasKen.jpg
Hello!

I am Ken Matthias, reside in Columbus, Ohio in the beautiful United States of America and am an avid user of technology (some good, some bad and most just learning).

I am a 1985 graduate of Capital University with a bachelor's degree in music theory and composition, my first love. I am also a 2010 graduate of The Ohio State University with a Master of Arts degree in Educational Technology from the College of Education and Human Ecology, School of Educational Policy and Leadership (that's a mouthful, indeed). I also plan on beginning an additional Master of Arts degree in Public Policy and Administration from the John Glenn School of Public Affairs. Education is a beautiful thing!

I am employed at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine as an Educational Delivery Specialist where I assist faculty, staff and students in the use of the university content management system, Desire2Learn (we call it Carmen), posting course content and evaluating course design. I am also involved with various learning technologies in the college (Clickers, Smart Boards, Lecture Capture, ePortfolios, Wikis, and the list goes on and on....), as well as college website maintenance and technical support for the one45 program we use to track student clinical competencies and student/faculty evaluations for our fourth-year students as they enter their clinical year.

I want to be part of this project to increase my skills and see how others use Wikis. I am already involved in a couple of research projects utilizing Wikis at Ohio State (hope to publish some results later this month).

Hi Ken nice to meet you. I am also an avid user of technology and like you -mostly just learning :) Cheers --Jenni Parker
Dear Ken, Wow what an impressive backgroud you have. It is also good to know that you have Wiki experience. you will find this experience eye-opening, as WikiEducator is currently the largest global online training initiative there is with over 15,000 users.Welcome aboard. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Lou King

LEKingB&W FilmStrip-pola.jpg
Hi Folks. I recently moved to a shoreline community half way between Boston and NYC. Professionally, I am a Digital Information Architect at Yale University responsible for academic information. Personally, I am a husband and father who enjoys sports, news, reading, cooking, hiking, and a boat-load of other things. I am taking this workshop as an excuse to sharpen a few wiki skills. C'ya online. And what an excuse you have, Lou! Welcome! You might consider adding your signature (--~~~~) above so others can find your user page. You'll find that wikiing can become quite addictive. --Benjamin Stewart 23:57, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Lou, Welcome aboard. Good to have you with us. See you in the Wiki as we say. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:14, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Stacey R.

I am a high school math and computer science teacher in Maryland. I'm looking for ways to make the classroom an exciting place and am hoping to pick up a few tips here or meet a few people who have a similar passion to enrich their classroom!

  • Hi, Stacey! Since I have a close friend in secondary math instruction here in BC, Canada, I hope you will be able to demonstrate some efficient ways to use formula editors in wikis in this course. I know it's a lot to ask, but it seems to be a common requirement for math instructors to be able to do complex formulae on whatever Web 2.0 tool they are using. I know that the rich editor in this wiki has a insert/edit formula button on the toolbar, but I would be interested to see how well it works for complex math.--Jrradney 23:11, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Good question and always a challenge in web environments. I have to say the Rich Text editor is not ideal for formulae and best to work directly with wiki syntax. Most scientists are familiar with TEX markup and this works pretty well in the wiki. Wikipedia has a good page with examples here --Wayne Mackintosh 05:36, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Gerard nice to meet you. I am currently co-facilitating a Moodle for Teachers workshop (on IT4ALL) and one of the particpants is from Trinidad, Tobago...do you know him - Sean Rogers - hehe just joking, whenever I tell people I am from Perth they always ask if I know there relatives!!:) I look forward to connecting with you online & maybe I can connect you to Sean ? Raewyn MacCormick

Hi all, I am from Auckland, New Zealand. I am a mathematics teacher in a Private Girls' School. I play tennis and enjoy sport. I am looking forward to participating in an on line work shop.

Welcome Raewyn, there is a good NZ crowd here of course and I also worked in Auckland for a couple of years and played tennis at Kohimarama for a while. Good to see you editing already. Richardnz 09:34, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Rae, It's good to find relatives through the wiki! Hope you're enjoying this course and finding lots of relevance for school use. I'm struggling with time to fit everything in (work, film festival, wikis) but hope to manage better with the weekend ahead. Alison.kirkness

Hi Rae, I'm finally on board! That little piece of advice about leaving in the double equals sign was VERY helpful. I had automatically scrubbed it! --Alison.kirkness 10:19, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Nancy Milakovic

HI All, I'm from Edmonton, Alberta Canada. I'm the Distance Learning Portfolio Coordinator for Continuing Education at NAIT. I'm new to the field so am looking for ways to improve our delivery. I'm a pretty active gal, biking, hiking, blading. I'm just taking up tennis, so I have a few lessons on the go! I tried to put in a picture here, but failed. So my picture is uploaded somewhere...just not sure where?? So if anyone can help put it in the right place that would be great! It's under nancymil.jpg.

I'm looking forward to learning some new things.

Hi Nancy and welcome, look at the code to see how your pic got here - you will master technique this very soon on the workshop. Richardnz 09:44, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Nancy - did you find out how the picture got here, and if so, can you tell me in small non-threatening words how you did it?  My wife and I travelled through Alberta ten years ago on the Canadian and spent a glorious week in the Rockies based out of Jasper and Lake Louise.  We've been back once since then with friends to ski, but would love to visit again.

Cheers - Alan Grant (also, like Richard, an NZer)

Hi Alan, there will be a lesson but basically you must first upload an image (png or jpg) using the link in the toolbox on the left, then either use the code you can see here (by clicking edit) or use the rich text editor to link it in - let me know how it goes. Mail me if you want.Richardnz 03:49, 25 July 2010 (UTC) (entering four tildes (~) will leave your signature here, then I can find you :-).

Hi Nancy, I see many of your fellow men and women have made contact already. So you have a lot of support already and see the power of the Wiki. Welcome aboard. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:18, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I am the CIO at Athabasca University. We are an online University based in Athabasca (surprise, surprise) Alberta, Canada. Originally from Ireland, my background was in the Printing Industry, but am quite liking the third level or post secondary or higher education experience. I haven't played around too much with wikis, so this is a good chance to get more acquainted.

Hi Brian -- glad you could make it :-). Athabasca Univeristy, apart from being Canada's premier eLearning university is also an open education pioneer! Athabasca Uni is a founding partner of the OER Foundation and provides hosting services and advice for WikiEducator. Hope you get a chance to explore some of the power underneath the hood of the Mediawiki software engine during the workshop. Feel free to explore and ask any questions you may have. --Wayne Mackintosh 05:55, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Natalie Isaac

WikiEducator logo100.jpg

Hi,I am a primary school teacher from Trinidad and Tobago. I am currently reading about the ways in which technology can be integrated across the curriculum. I see this as a great opportunity to 'get my feet wet' and learn about the ways in which it can actually apply to the classroom and beyond.

Hi Natalie, Welcome to WikiEducator! Joining WikiEducator was also my first experience with how technology can support learning. My view of education is quite changed through my participation. By the way, good use of adding a picture. Feel free to upload a picture to WikiEducator that you can use here and on your user page--I noticed that you've started editing there :). To add a picture, use the "Upload File" link in the toolbox area on the navigator to the left. Be sure to give your picture file a unique name...e.g., your full name or username usually works. Glad you have decided to join the WikiEducator community. Don't hesitate to ask if you have a question or need help. Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 20:21, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Natalie! It is great to see you take the initiative and to know there are people in Trinidad and Tobago looking and integrating technology into the classroom. Look forward to connecting with you in this course. --ATNoel 12:54, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi! I am Kalpana from India. I work at IGNOU's Regional Centre, Pune as Deputy Director. Dr. Ramesh Sharma introduced me to wikieducator and I have completed two workshops. Patricia and Gita have been wonderful teachers too. I wish to further improve the little skills that I have picked up. Wikieducator is a good way to meet many like minded people the world over. To make a change one must first change our own selves and our thinking. The OER movement is a great thing. I hope to enjoy myself learning more. Kalpana Gupte 17:32, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Each time I worked with a wonderful group of female professors from the western polytechs in India. We had workshops on Life Skills, Decision Making, Negotiating and a variety of interesting topics. Although I was the facilitator I learned so much through the women I had the opportunity to work with. The project ended a few years ago but I have many fond memories of Pune, Ujjain, Bhopal and Mumbai.

Dear Kalpana, beautiful photo! Welcome again. Good to see you again. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:23, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Jane Watson-Baker

Jane W-B Profile picture.jpg
Hi, I'm originally from the UK and have been involved in work-based learning and education for many years. I moved to Wellington, New Zealand 9 years ago and currently work for Symbiont Ltd as their Project Manager and Business Development Manager. We custom design learning resources for the tertiary market (on-line, paper-based, face to face, blended). We work with clients all around New Zealand as well as some international clients and cover a wide variety of subject areas, so life is never boring. I wanted to do this course to learn about sharing information on-line and hopefully find out a little about Moodle too, which is a very popular platform here.

I am looking forward to working with you all.

Regards Jane Watson-Baker

Hi Jane nice to meet you. I am an experienced Moodle user (as well as a newbie wiki co-facilitator). I am sure you will find out lots about sharing information on-line here on wikieducator...and make connections to people like myself & Radney. We both do volunteer work on IT4ALL co-facilitating Moodle for Teachers workshops. We will be happy to chat to you about Moodle - we love it! :) Cheers --Jenni Parker

Amanda Coolidge

Amandasmall.jpg
HI! My name is Amanda Coolidge and I am an Instructional Designer at Royal Roads University in Victoria, British Columbia (Canada). Prior to working at Royal Roads I was at BCIT in Vancouver and before that I was working in Kenya on an Open Source Project called "TESSA"- Teacher Education in Sub Saharan Africa

I have been living in British Columbia for 2 years and love the outdoor lifestyle that the province has to offer.

I have always been interested in Wikieducator and felt this was a great opportunity to check out the project in more detail and get to know colleagues around the globe.

If you want to get to know me further you can always check out my Blog- http://gotcurls.wordpress.com

Thanks

Amanda

  • Is that downtown Vancouver I see in the background? I'm from the north, myself (Williams Lake), and I don't much like going to the big city (too disorienting for me). However, I love Victoria. The Island culture (laid-back) is more like what we have in the north, but Victoria seems to have the 'best of both worlds' with great arts and other aspects of city life and quick access to more relaxed and private living. I don't know what other people we have from Western Canada, but it's great having a 'close neighbour' along for the course. Welcome!--Jrradney 22:48, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Hi Amanda, Lovely to have a fellow country woman living so close to me, here in the course. Welcome to WikiEducator. you will enjoy the learning curve and global educator community which is amazing. Welcome again. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Justin Chisenga

Chisenga.jpg
Hi! I am Justin Chisenga, a Zambian resident in Ghana where I work for the Food and Agriculture Organization at the Regional Office for Africa. I work as a Knowledge and Information Management Officer. In my work, I am also actively involved in capacity development activities relating to the use of ICTs including Web 2.0 and social media for agricultural and rural development.

My motivation for joining the course is based on the fact that I work with several colleagues located in different parts of Africa on capacity development activities and we collaborate a lot on developing resources for the training workshops. I am of the view that using collaborative tools such as wikis will make my work and that of my colleagues a lot easier. In addition, WikiEducator looks like a very good tool for remote collaboration and sharing of open educational resources. I therefore want to be very conversant with WikiEducator. I alos plan to introduce my colleague to this useful tool

  • Hi Chisenga, what a lovely surprise! I am a Ghanaian resident in Zambia!! Bwanji! It is a pleasure to have you join us in this workshop and to the wikieducator community. I am sure you will have fun learning new techniques and sharing your insight with the rest of this community. Consider adding your signature with --~~~~ next time so that all can link up straight to your userpage. Cheers!! --Victor P. K. Mensah 08:16, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Dr Chisenga, good working with you. Thank God for your life. Hoping to learn good stuff on this course. --Richard.lamptey

Dear Justin, Welcome to our WikiEducator community. You have joined the largest active Open Education Online community in the world, and as you can see in this course, it is very powerful. I hope you are enjoying the course. Welcome aboard. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 18:30, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Robyn Terrey

Hi everyone. I am Robyn Terrey from Melbourne, Australia. I am passionate about literacy - all people being able to read and write in whatever language they speak and understand. I spent 21 years in the Philippines involved in providing mother tongue literacy to people in remote villages who were unable to read and write or had very limited literacy skills because they couldn't speak or understand the languages of instruction. Since returning to Australia in 1998 I have been and am currently involved in training other literacy workers/specialists who plan to work throughout the remote areas of the world providing mother tongue literacy, materials and tutor training for all who are in need. My reason for signing up for this course is, we on staff here at EQUIP Training would like to introduce Wikis to our students as a way of sharing ideas and experiences, new methods and ideas for materials and other information related to mother tongue literacy, while they are students here and later when they are in their assignments around the world.

G'Day Robyn. I am also from Australia...but from the otherside, a sandgroper (Perth) :) Wikis are a great way to to share ideas I'm sure this workshop will be very useful to you. Please ask if you need assistance I am very happy to help :) Cheers --Jenni Parker

Hi Austin nice to meet you online. We are almost neighbours, I live in Mt Hawthorn (north of the river)...I know almost another planet :). Please ask if you need assistance I am very happy to help :) Cheers --Jenni Parker

Hi Austin and Jenni! Nice to know that we have two West Autralians in the workshop. I was at Curtin 1999 amd 2000, and I used to come down to the Fremantle market. I might seek both your assistance if I get stuck.--VFoliaki 16:36, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Martin Buck

Martin1.jpg
Hello from Montreal, Quebec where I am visiting my daughter. In a couple of weeks I'll be back home on southern Vancouver Island on the west coast of North America in the province of British Columbia, Canada.

I am a computer studies and math online instructor at Camosun College and a member of the Community Learning Partnerships Department.

A couple of years ago, after the Commonwealth of Learning Conference, I began the process of placing Adult Basic Education (adult upgrading) curriculum at Adult Basic Education here at WikiEducator. I'm hoping this workshop will get me connected with other folks willing to help move that process along.

My participation may be a bit spotty the next week as my next stop is a cottage an hour north of Ottawa, our nation's capital. Internet connectivity there has been quite limited in the past. If that's still the case, I'll be making trips whenever I can to the local library which fortunately is connected.

(Comment.gif: Hi Martin. Hope you will be able to join us and not be cut off by lack of connectivity. Libraries are great though aren't they our give free internet access. -- Carol Cooper-Taylor, The eLearning Site 11:38 AM 22 July 2010 (NZ). )

Elizabeth Towns

Hi, I am a teacher at a private girls school in Auckland, New Zealand where I teach mathematics. I wish to learn some new skills which I can transfer to other jobs.

(Comment.gif: Hello Elizabeth. You'll find that there are a lot of opportunities to network with others within the WE family. Personally, I have found the knowledge and skills I obtained through my participation in WE to be very useful in a multitude of disciplines. Be bold and don't be afraid to ask questions! --Benjamin Stewart 18:07, 21 July 2010 (UTC))

Alan Grant

Hi everyone, I live in Twizel in the Mackenzie Country of New Zealand's glorious South Island. Twizel is an isolated town of around 1100 people, bordered on one side by the Southern Alps and on the other by the vast open plain of the Mackenzie Basin. I teach secondary English and social studies at the local area school, which caters to around 190 students from ages 5 - 18. In 2010 I have been granted a 32 week sabbatical to study e-learning through New Zealand's Massey University, and it's this tentative step into the world of 21st century education that brings me to WikiEducator.   Between now and October I also have to collaborate with a team from one of my courses to produce a major resource to go on WikiEducator as part of our assessment.  Steep learning curve time!  I would have put a thumbnail picture up, but couldn't work out how to do it.  Maybe as this fortnight progresses....

(Comment.gif: Hi Alan. Another from NZ, great to have you as part of this workshop. Anything we can do to help with your sabbatical, just ask -- Carol Cooper-Taylor, The eLearning Site 11:42AM 22 Jul 2010. )

Wow Alan - -its a small world -- Are you any chance working with Ben @ Massey on your project? He has been running a few very interesting and exciting post grad projects in WikiEducator. Don't forget to take a look at the OERNZ initiative -- we may be able to connect this work with a Bounty project. Most of the real cool stuff in the wiki is using normal wiki text -- more powerful than the rich editor. Just click on the Wiktext button and explore the code. In wikitext :: will indent the text. Here are a few notes on Colours -- but you may want to wait a little before trying this -- although its not that difficult. If I can do it -- you'll certainly figure this out. --Wayne Mackintosh 12:00, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Alan, Please let me know when you work out how to insert the photo. The system told me that it wouldn't take JPG. Could that mean it had to be jpg? Alison Kirkness

Grace Lin, University of Hawaii
Aloha everyone. I live in the beautiful islands of Hawaii! I am an assistant professor at the University of Hawaii and am glad that I can be here with this group. I hope to meet you all in person at a conference or when you visit Hawaii.
Hi Grace. Was hoping to get to a Conference later this year in Hawaii, but missed the final cut off date. It would be neat to present a paper on using wikis there as it seems to be the right place!! --Mverhaart 12:41, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear Grace Lin, your first introduction itself is a welcome to WE community. That shows your openness to networking and sharing of educational resources. Looking forward to your pages and contributions to WE. --KD Shijo

Carol Cooper-Taylor

Kia Ora everyone. I am an ex-pat Brit now living in New Zealand. I have been using technology with students since the 1980s which then meant using my own Commodore 64 (any one remember those) and writing my own programs as there were none for use with nurses. But it was a great time when knowing anything about computers made you the school expert! I hope everyone has a great time on this workshop.

Hi Carol -- WE're very pleased you could join us and prepared to gift time to become a facilitator -- we're very fortunate to have the calbre of your eLearning experience -- I know this first hand from you work @ the University of Auckland when I was directing eLearning at the uni and was very impressed with the work you did in leading Lincoln in matters eLearning -- Great to have you as part of the WikiEd family! --Wayne Mackintosh 09:17, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Carol, looks like all the tweets to EIT staff have paid off.. there are a few of us here --Mverhaart 11:35, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Carol. Great to see you in the wiki.--Sally Woods 10:34, 22 July 2010
Hi Carol - thanks for your greeting - yes I remember Commodore C64s, but I can go one better: my family had a Commodore VIC-20 - a whole 3.7K memory - Wooohooo!  We had 'Frogger', and a game called 'Ice' involving penguins - both of these loaded off cassette tapes and a disk drive was something we'd heard about but never seen! - Alan Grant

Keryn Pratt

Keryn Pratt.jpg
Hi everyone. I'm a kiwi born and bred, living in Dunedin (towards the south of the South Island), New Zealand. I'm a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago College of Education, where I work in the Centre for Distance Education and Learning Technologies. For the last couple of years all my teaching has been online, and I teach and research in the areas of ICT in education and quantitative research methods.

I've used wikis a few times in the past, but have always use a 'push buttons and see what happens and thank goodness for the opportunity to undo' approach in the past, so wanted to try something a bit more structured.

(Comment.gif: Hi Keryn. Great to have you as part of this workshop. Please make the best of the lessons and interaction. -- LeRoy Hill, CEN 13:18, 21 July 2010 (UTC).

Hi Keryn from sunny Twizel!  I'm still getting my head round wikis, particularly as reqards the oppportunity to undo - on wikispaces this morning, I automatically hit 'control z' (i.e. undo) without thinking and managed to lose 25 minutes of work.  Hopefully this tutorial fortnight will help me avoid such blunderts in the future!  Cheers - Alan Grant

Being based in Dunedin myself - -we should definitely get together for a coffee and share thoughts and ideas on how WikiEducator and the OER foundation can support your work in the College of Education -- there are a couple of amazing project, one in particular run by Declan McCabe at St Michaels College in the US, where student teachers develop Lesson plans for teaching Biology in Elementary Schools as part of their official assignments for their degree. --Wayne Mackintosh 11:17, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear Keryn, Welcome aboard. I hope you are enjoying the course and I can see that new working relationships are being forged. That is wonderful. Warm wishes,--Patricia Schlicht 19:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Dixon Das

I am Dixon Das. I am a Plus Two student of St. Sebastian's Higher Secondary School at Thoppumpady, Cochin, Kerala, India.

This year our Government policy says "every school must have a wiki portal". I plan to lead my school in making a Wiki Portal. Joining this WE community, it will be easy for me to get help when I am stuck.

As a student I use Wikipedia as my reference book. I try to introduce WIKI to my classmates, teachers and school. I have decided to join this WE project, go through Learning4Content workshop. Once I have become a Wikibuddy, it will be easy for me to invite my friends here, showing off my details in Wiki. I don't know how easy or hard it is going to be. But I have decided to try until I win. Everyone here, please pray for me. Hello Dixon. I am so happy to meet a young student taking the lead and initiative. We are here to be and learn together.--Nisha Singh

Hi Dixon hats off to you. You have statred a bold step. Carry on and spread the message.

Dear Dixon, Welcome aboard. It is good to see you working on becoming a WikiBuddy, see here what it takes under the WikiMaster programme. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:18, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Jeannette Dyet

I'm from Lower Hutt in New Zealand where we are in the middle of winter and just had our All Blacks rugby team beat the Springboks at the weekend.  I work for a distance education provider where I teach accounting.  I am also currently completing a Grad Dip in Adult lilteracy and Numeracy which gives me a few headaches at times trying to fit everything into the space of a day.  But it's all good.

I'm doing this workshop to see if/how I can use Wikis to support my students, particularly from the perspective of building a collabotative learning community.  Has anyone tried this approach?  All the best with the workshop everyone.

  • Anyone got any ideas on how I can stop this posting encroaching on Richard's space?
  • Yeah -- I've fixed it, but best not to explain how this works just yet ;-). If you're curious look at the syntax in Wiktext mode :-) Anyway point being, in wiki communities we help each other. --Wayne Mackintosh 06:47, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
  • My bad Jeanette! I was going to fix it when I suddenly had to be somewhere else. Yes, wikis are a great way to foster collaboration and support students. Here's a starter: wikis in education Richardnz 08:44, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Cheers guys, looked at the code, from what I could decipher it's not as structured as html so I had no idea how to fix it myself - hopefully will work this out during the course. Thanks for the link RIchard. --Jeannette 08:42, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Dear Jeannette, Welcome to the Wikifamily. You will enjoy this wonderful community of global educators who are anxious to make it happen. Welcome agian. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:21, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Sandhya Gunness

San1.jpg
HI Everyone,
I'm Sandhya Gunness, Lecturer at the University of Mauritius for Open and Online Learning. I'm really happy to be able to contribute a little back to the Wikieducator initiative ever since I jumped on board back in 2006 where we were introduced to Wikieducator in Vancouver at the COL office and were able to welcome the first VUSSC workshop in Mauritius. I've been watching amazed while WE grew and having all these exciting people on board. People passionate about learning, sharing and "digging deeper in these higher grounds"- people like You- WE ;) We've done some wiki-writing with my students and they have been thrilled at the possibilities of shared editing and collaborative writing. Looking forward to this workshop.
Hi Sandhya, great to touch base again in the wiki -- as you say you've been with us since the early days and for those who don't know Sandhya -- she served on the Interim International Advisory Board, back in the days when we were too small to elect a Council. Really appreciate your gift of time to help us out again. --Wayne Mackintosh 09:02, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, Sandhya, Nice to meet you. Your work is amazing. It's rains in Pune now and the countryside is beautiful. I have a few friends in Mauritius and am reminded of them. Do visit whenever you come to Pune again. Kalpana--Kalpana Gupte 16:55, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Sandhya, thank you for coming in and doing all that you have done. It is great to have friends around to rely on for help. Really more appreciated than I can express. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:22, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Klaus Reich

Klaus reich.png
Hi! My name is Klaus and I am living near Innsbruck, a city in the Alps in Austria - please note the missing "al" ;-) Greetings to all those from the southern hemisphere :-) I am working as a new media/teacher training coordinator in the Vice-Rectorate for Students and Teaching and as research officer at the Institute of Educational Science - both at the University of Innsbruck . My focus is on continuing professional development for educators/trainers and in e-learning, including accessibility and usability of learning environments, barrier-free web-design, e-accessibility and evaluation of web-based learning. I have worked for several years as a project officer in these fields as well. For work and personal matters I use dokuwiki and confluence wiki, but have never applied wikis in my lectures till now.
Hi Klaus -- had a good chuckle -- enjoy your sense of humour. Welcome aboard -- we've pleased to see solid growth in the WikiEducator community from Europe. Dokuwiki is great wiki -- clean and great for producing documents (in terms of its structure and design). Although I must concede -- I'm a little biased towards Mediawiki - -a very powerful engine. Hope you enjoy your time with us :-) --Wayne Mackintosh 09:06, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Lynne Chapman

Hello,

I am an educational developer returning to work after a year's absence and I need to learn about wikis so that I can teach others how to use them for learning as well as how to use them :) I hope to be able to maintain my involvement each day but already am under pressure as it is a new semester and the busiest time for people like me. I am sure everyone relates to the pressures of time  and I am not alone.

THe course material is very detailed and appears to ensure that anyone of any level of expertise will be catered for. A very thorough site and lots of variety for different learners. Thank you. It is so refreshing to receive free assistance.

I really like learning by doing!

Hello Lynne nice to meet you. Where are you from? Yes we all have life & work pressures so we understand :) Let us know if we can assist. Cheers --Jenni Parker

Hey everyone.

Rohan from Melbourne, Australia.

Was invited through Robyn to join in. I look after the IT for a higher ed college and am interested in seeing how wikis can be used in education. We have been running Moodle for the past 2 years and it will be interesting to see how the 2 can complement.

Hi Rohan nice to meet you. I am sure you will be pleased Robyn invited you to join in. I am also an experienced Moodle co-facilitator / administrator (on IT4ALL). I look forward to chatting with you about Moodle and how the "2" can complement each other. :) Cheers --Jenni Parker
Dear Rohan. Welcome aboard. I see you are in good hands already. Warm wishes,--Patricia Schlicht 19:24, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Tehmina Gladman

Tehmina Gladman
Hi everyone! My name is Tehmina and I work at Massey University in Albany, North Shore, New Zealand. I have made a lateral move into the arena of academic development after spending 8 years as a lecturer in experimental psychology in Japan. I am fascinated by eLearning and the collaborative possibilities of wikis, but have never really taken the time to learn about them before now. I am looking forward to FINALLY coming to grips with the tool, and hopefully finding ways to use it to enhance students creativity and collaboration. See you all in the wiki!

(Comment.gif: There's no better time than the present, Tehmina! I continue to find new ways to create open educational resources in Wikieducator that help improve my knowledge and teaching practice. This workshop is a great way to start networking with others while learning the code required to make contributions to various projects. --Benjamin Stewart 18:21, 21 July 2010 (UTC))

Greetings everyone. I am really excited by the idea and possibility of open education. I have been teaching since 1995 and presently I am on study leave pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of Nottingham. My professional duties in the past included, Graduate certified teacher (Social Studies, Information Technology, Geography, and Caribbean Studies), Head of Humanities Department at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School (ALHCS) and President of the Anguilla Teachers' Union. I hold a BSc in Social Studies from Andrews University and a MA in Instructional Technology (Curriculum & Instruction) from Virginia Tech. I have been an avid user of various online tools for collaborative learning and knowledge sharing. In 2003 I created a local VLE for my school ([www.classnotes.ai]) which sparked my interest in participatory design. This effort grew to be a Caribbean wide tool for students to collaborate and learn with each other. In 2008, I created an online network for Caribbean educators (Caribbean Educators Network) and presently researching a participatory framework for sustainable e-learning in a social networking setting.

I am delighted to be one of the co-facilitators of this historic wiki workshop.  Please feel free to participate fully in the sessions.

Hi LeRoy -- I know you have a hectic schedule -- but am very pleased you could take some time out to help with the facilitation of our record breaking WikiEducator Gives Back workshop -- not too mention helping to keep Caribbean numbers and representation from your region in this international workshop. Great to have you on Board! --Wayne Mackintosh 09:20, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear LeRoy, your expertise in the field of education will surely help us wiki family in the days to come. Looking forward --KD Shijo

  • Dear LeRoy, thank you for all that you do and have done to help others. It is highly appreciated. You are doing an amazing job. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

I am Marinda van Rooyen. I work at Stellenbosch University in South Africa. I am a Web studies Official. I work with the university's Learning Management System. I am currently doing a Masters Degree in Hypermedia for Language Learning, hence my interest in this wiki workshop. I am fascinated by e-learning and especially collaborative learning possibilities presented by the e-learning environment. I am currently researching e-assessment possibilities which could maybe replace boring multiple choice question assessments.
Welcome Marinda. Glad that you could join in the workshop.  I am sure that you will be pleased with your efforts at the end of the workshop. --LeRoy Hill, CEN 09:24, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi everyone, I'm a lecturer in publishing at NMIT, Melbourne, Australia. I'm very interested in learning about open educational resources from all of you. I became involved in open access publishing several years ago when I co-founded the Open Humanities Press (www.openhumanitiespress.org). I met Wayne while I was back in NZ last year during Open Access week when he kindly agreed to join us virtually for a session on OER. My background is English literature, and I've been teaching and researching in the US, Belgium and Holland. I'm eager to make connections in the OER community in Australia. It will be fascinating to see how far this workshop takes us!
Hi Sigi -- glad you could make it :-) I'm very keen to explore the grey areas and opportunities for collaboration between the open access publishing worlds and the OER community -- let's make these futures happen! --Wayne Mackintosh 09:25, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear Sigi, Welcome to our WikiEducator family. It is good to have you with us. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:29, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello everyone.  My name is Alex Tait and I currently work for the Ministry of Civil Defence & Emergency Management in NZ.  A newbie to wikis, let alone wikieducator but looking forward to figuring this thing out over the next 10 days.

Liz Harrison

Hi everyone from sunny Durban, South Africa. I'm now over the football World Cup and ready to focus on learning about WikiEducator - perfect timing! As an educational technologist working with academics to learn how to teach online this project is fascinating. I love the idea of communally created and accessible knowledge. The idea of treasuring and sharing both local and global knowledge suggests that we'll be reevaluating our criteria for what counts as worthwhile knowing. The challenge is marvellous.

Hi Liz, welcome aboard -- We were all proud of South Africa's hosting of the world cup -- Great stadium in Durban! Yeah -- rethinking criteria of worthwhile knowing in an open world is a fascinating concept -- Enjoy the workshop! --Wayne Mackintosh 00:23, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Everyone!

I am from Johannesburg and work as an education consultant at the University of South Africa (Unisa). My work is very similar to that of an instructional designer and currently my focus is on continuous professional learning opportunities for our lecturers in the field of online learning.

I enrolled for this workshop because I would like to learn how a Wiki works. I believe that my practical experience here with the Wiki will help me to promote it to our lecturers so that they can use it for teaching and learning purposes.

Hi Michele -- a special welcome to colleagues from Unisa :-) I spent 12 years of my career @ Unisa and am indebted to the depth of knowledge and experience I gained in open distance learning. Remember that we run at least one free Learning4Content workshop every month and you're most welcome to point colleagues to these free workshops. More over - -all our course materials are freely available and you can run your own training sessions using these OER teaching materials. Great to have you on board and send my regards to Unisa! --Wayne Mackintosh 00:27, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Olufemi Olubodun

Hello, I am joining this programme from Nigeria and at the present in South Africa for few days. I am particularly interested in the course not only to learn but to add value to the initiative of OER as I believe it will dominate future thoughts on some practices in teaching and learning. With the level of poverty and deprivation in Africa and many developing countries many could not go to school or do well because of limited access to resources that would have added value to the learning. I work in the University of Lagos as an instructor and have excellent knowledge in the use of technology in various ways for education and creative inquiry. Wiki is an interesting tool and joining this group will add value to my knowledge.

(Comment.gif: Hi Olufemi , Welcome to this eL4C41 Online workshop. I agree with you that through Wiki and OER we can extend the access to resources to the needy ones. Warm Wishes.--Ramesh Sharma 16:10, 21 July 2010 (UTC))

Hi everyone. Over the past 20 years I've had the fortune of working in adult education in northern and western Canada and am interested in how wikis will encourage student success, especially in remote Aboriginal communities. I'm currently Coordinator of Undergraduate Degree Online Learning Development for the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology in Edmonton. Although we joke that there are two seasons here...snow and cold...although far too short, the summers here are actually quite nice with 18+ hours of sunlight and temperatures in the mid-20's. I look forward to wikiing (is that a word?) BTW that's me on the left of the photo with our Cree Elder, Walter Bonaise.

'Bula vinaka' to you all!

I am Rokosiga Morrison, I am from Suva, Fiji and I work as an Instructional Designer at the Center for Flexible and Distance Learning with the University of the South Pacific. I was involved with wiki a few years back while studying but I stopped using it for so many other reasons. This is a great opportunity for me to improve my skills and to get to know more about WikiEducator. My work involves consultation and providing advice to my fellow colleagues who are writing distance courses. I welcome this challenge to be a participant in this online session as my technology skills are very basic. So looking forward to learning from you all and the fact that I will be collaborating with people from all over the world is an incentive itself to register for the session.

Hi Rokosiga, I have recently met Shikha Raturi online who lives in Suva. If you know her say "hi". Anyway welcome to the wiki! Carolct 22/7/2010 10:38 AM NZ

I am interested in using these type of platforms for my classes as well as a tool for assessment through courses. I have used blogs or my classes so students can practice grammar structures, reading, listening and vocabulary items. My main purpose to use wikis is to know how to use them for evaluation and assessment throughout a course or semester.

Hi Monica. Welcome. If you have any questions please ask us :) Cheers --jennip 02:29, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Carol Gray

Aloha, This year I am teaching middle school social studies at Connections Public Charter School, a K-12 public school in Hilo Hawaii, which means I am teaching History of the Hawaiian Kingdom/Pacific Islands, American History, and Health. Because I had been teaching social studies at our High School these are all new classes for me, so I want to design these classes with quality technology tools integrated into the curriculum from the start. I am very excited about learning more about the nuts and bolts functions of the Wiki educator environment. In particular, there is relatively little quality online information and resources for teaching Hawaiian History. I hope my classes can use the wiki tools to change that, by creating online materials other students and teachers can use.

Teachers go back to work next Thursday and students return the following Tuesday, so this workshop is just in time!
(Comment.gif: Hi, Carol! It's rather ironic that materials would be lacking, since wiki is a word invented by Hawaiians :). The possibility for opening up self-directed learning in a wiki environment, so that students could actually construct their own content on Hawaiian history in a collaborative way with others on the Web is exciting. I hope you are able to learn all you need to get started on this important cultural project. --Jrradney 04:12, 22 July 2010 (UTC))

  • Dear Carol, Welcome to the Wiki family. Just like you many came to do the same thing, to explore how WikiEducator could be integrated into the classroom and it works beautifully. Please check out the content page on wikieducator itself, at http://www.wikieducator.org WikiEducator Main Page] Warm wishes and welcome again--Patricia Schlicht 19:47, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Rabikha Hasni

Hello my wikis friends, I'm Rabikha and I'm a lecturer from Wawasan Open University, Malaysia. WikiEducator has become the most exciting experience of my career. I would like to learn more about wikis.I'm looking forward to working with you all.

Welcome Malaysia and Wawasan Open Univeristy -- I see that we have a strong team from Wawasan at the workshop and you will definitely have an authentic wiki experience during this workshop. --Wayne Mackintosh 11:21, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Álvaro Ricárdez

I'm a Mexican TEFL teacher working in a junior high school in Oaxaca, México. It's my seventh year there. I have a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering but I'm now retired from engineereing. I'm 60 years old. Presently I am studying on line to get my BA degree on teaching foreign languages, and I just finished my third semester. I study at the UNAM, Mexico's National University. I'm very interested in opening a wiki for my school teachers. Two years ago I opened a wiki for TEFL teachers in my area. It's at [3] and it's in English. But now I want to open a new one for all the teachers in my school. Many of them do not speak English so I will do it in Spanish. I want to share tips and tools for using technology in the school. I also have a wiki for my students. I'm now trying to prepare my wiki fo the new course which starts on August the 18th. That wiki address is [4] I hope to learn a lot in this shop!

Wow Álvaro -- You know what they say -- you're never too young to learn! Great wiki projects -- feel free to start a Wiki portal in WikiEducator -- were a great bunch of Educators (more than 72% of our users are educators working in the formal sector) and we're a great bunch of folk. Remember - WIkiEducator runs a free workshop every month and this is great way to provide training for your students as well. --Wayne Mackintosh 11:26, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks a lot Wayne for this nice welcome. I'll tell my students and co workers about these shops. Have a nice workshop!

Isla Taufalele

Kia ora koutou,I am a mother, volunteer educator, distance educator and chemistry teacher from Hamilton, New Zealand. I am currently employed by New Zealand's largest school,Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu, The Correspondence School.I am interested in learning more about distance education and in particular how it can be effective for youth. My education dream is to expand my small mentoring/tuoring group for Tongans into a larger network. Maybe this course will give me some fresh ideas, looking forward to the challenge.

Mālō ē lelei. Welcome Isla. Great to have participants from the Correspondence School join us. Do take a look at New Zealand's OERNZ wiki project -- the Newsletters provide a good idea of what we're doing, see here. Wow -- I've had the privilege of presenting two WikiEducator workshops in the Kingdom of Tonga -- See L4C12 and L4C13 -- perhaps there are ways we can connect with colleagues in Tonga :-) --Wayne Mackintosh 11:33, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Larry White

Greetings from Ottawa, Canada! I am joining in from Algonquin College, Ontario's 4th largest community college, where I work as Academic Manager in the School of Part-time Studies. Our college serves some 18,000 full-time and 35,000 part-time students. My portfolio includes responsibility for existing and new programming in the areas of media and design, Police and public safety and health and community studies.

I have about a 7-year background in curriculum design and development, the centrepiece of which is the Master of Distance Education that I earned through Athabasca University in 2006. With luck, I'll be commencing doctoral studies in social sciences at Royal Roads University in February 2011. In my doctoral research, I would like to explore the relationships that exist between pedagogy, assessment and practice, especially as they relate to opportunities to individualize learning online despite the use of learning management systems that, by default, seem to try to standardize learning.

I am here to learn. Seems that is what I'm always doing. Wikis intrigue me and I look forward to learning more about how to apply them in learning and collaborative environments.

In my other life, I can often be found outdoors camping, hiking, canoeing, whitewater rafting, pretending to be a photographer, and snowshoeing. Of course, my bloodhound, Ben, ventures out with me often.

Looking forward to working with you all this next short while.

Larry

  • Hi, Larry (at first I thought you must be "Office Larry" from the Molson commercial :) Then I remembered that it was "Office Glen" from Toronto (Toronno) in the commercial. So, I missed all around) I notice there is someone in the workshop who works at Royal Roads, so it must be good to have that sort of contact. Also, there are several people from Athabasca here, so you probably feel right at home. Thanks for introducing yourself. --Jrradney 03:59, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Dear Larry, Welcome to WikiEducator. I think we have another person from the Algonquin College in this course, Group I, if I remember correctly. Great to have you with us. You will be fascinated by this self-organising large online community of over 15,000 registered users/global educators. They are truly amazing. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Amal Hanna

Hi every one. It is nice to see you all here in the forum and these coming workshops. I am looking forward to learn new experience of collaboration with you all who wish to get their learning material online available for those who want to learn. Developing courses for our students to participate in, collaboratively, is going to be one deep foot print for the future which we aim to make that real today, with all of our aspirations to make that happen.

You will definitely experience new ways of collaboration in WikiEducator! Welcome to our family of collaborators :-) --Wayne Mackintosh 11:36, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Welcome Amal. Good to have you with us. I hope you are enjoying this training opportunity thus far. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:53, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hello Dilip. I am certainly improving my geography of where institutions are. There are a lot of resources out there for teaching English, and wikis would certainly be useful for students to write collaboratively, improving each others English as they go. Welcome to the wiki workshop :) --Carolct 04:49, 22 July 2010 (UTC))

Maria Rosario Di Mónaco

MaryDM.JPG
Hi there! I'm an EFL teacher from Rosario, Argentina. I've been teaching English for over 25 years now, most of them at a private institute. In the last years, I've become increasingly fascinated with the affordances of the new technologies in education. I must say wikis are among my favourite tools because they offer the ideal environment for collaborative learning. And I love the idea of contributing and sharing resources. I've been profiting a lot from the material available on the web to give my students the opportunity to continue learning beyond the classroom walls and I feel it's time I tried and gave something back in return for all I have received. I'm here to learn how to do that.

(Comment.gif: Hi Maria, great to have you on-board. We love people who want to give back. I am sure other English teachers will benefit from your experiences. Carolct 04:59, 22 July 2010 (UTC))

Thanks for your warm welcome, Carol. Still finding my way around the wiki but anticipating lots of enriching experiences.

Hi Maria, Welcome to WikiEducator. I too am fascinated with how new technologies are impacting education. WikiEducator is a wonderful place in which to "give back" -- full of warm, supportive and fun wikieducators gifting their time and talents for the benefit of all.
I fixed the code so that your picture now displays...note that when you link to images, you need to include the 3-character file extension AND WikiEducator is case specific, so the name of the image has to be written exactly as you loaded it, which I was able to look up: Image:MaryDM.JPG--wiki's have easily accessible histories of every edit made. <yikes, long sentence>
Good to meet you...and great start on your userpage! Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 19:48, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Scott MacLeod, Founder, World University and School

I'm presently developing World University and School (http://worlduniversity.wikia.com/wiki/World_University), a global, virtual, open, free-to-students, multilingual (future credit- and degree-granting) university and school, - like Wikipedia with MIT Open Course Ware, Berkeley Webcast and Yale OYC, with people to people teaching and learning. WUaS intends to be in all languages, all subjects, all nation states and at all levels. Add or take a course. With your web camera, post something you'd like to teach to youtube.com or other video host. Interactivity happens in virtual worlds like Second Life. It's for the emerging world (especially the One Laptop per Child countries) and everyone - http://worlduniversity.wikia.com. I'd like to invite you to develop, teach, learn, add and create at World University and School. Here are some links for this:

Personal Homepage

Hi Scott, great to see a growing number of wiki projects focused on widening access to free learning materials and learning opportunities. Remember that the OER Foundation offers at least one free workshop every month and WE are more than happy to assist your project in building Wiki capability for content developers at the World University. Working together we achieve more than working alone. Fortunately the World University uses a CC-BY-SA license so you will be able to copy over WikiEducator materials for use at the World University as we are also free to copy World University materials for use in WikiEducator. --Wayne Mackintosh 07:58, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Dear Scott. Welcome to WikiEducator. Wayne said it all. Wow, it would be amazing if we could find common grounds for collaboration. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 19:56, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Dr. GeneLoeb Aronin

Hello Dear Wiki friends.

I am a retired university professor of education. I now work in the field of Geriatrics helping elderly live better lives. I am an active member of the American Society of Aging which helps professionals working with elderly. I write, study, and report on technology used to help elderly and their communities through my Center for Technology and Mental Health of Elderly. I network and write about innovations in work with older persons. I and my wife enjoy visiting our three sons and seven grandchildren, and taking short trips in the area, a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, United States. I am looking forward to learn about wikis as a means of collab orating on projects to assist older persons the world over..

(Comment.gif: Hi GeneLoeb, there is so much potential for technology and the elderly isn't there. And so many are getting connected on the Internet. The oldest of our family (my great aunt) who has just had her 99th birthday is not connected but all of the next generation down are, more so than my cousins. Welcome to the workshop! Hi fellows,

My name is José and I'm an English teacher from Aguascalientes, a small city in the heart of Mexico. I have a BA in English Language Teaching and and MA in Educational Technology. I've been working as a teacher for more than 15 years. Currently, I'm teaching EFL to high school and university students. I enrolled this course because I'm interested in distance learning and I think this is a great opportunity to update.

(Comment.gif: Hola, bienvenidos a este taller wiki. And I can only say that thanks to Google Translate. Carolct 08:30, 22 July 2010 (UTC))

Hola Jose. Is Aguacalientes close to San Miguel de Allende? Two years ago I took photography workshops in San Miguel and fell in love with the city. I hope to return in a couple of years to explore a bit more. Sue Davis

It's great to have you here Chito! Did you notice that Monica has signed up for the workshop as well? The knowledge and skill that you obtain in this workshop will serve you well as we conduct a similar workshop face-to-face with our Fomento teachers (i.e., EFL Educators) in August. I see you figured out how to upload pictures, well done! Let me know if I can be of any assistance. --Benjamin Stewart 03:19, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Ranjini Kalidass

Hello everyone. I am Ranjini Kalidass from Wawasan Open University, Malaysia. Wikieducator is something very new to me and I am completely excited to join the rest of you here. I am sure the experiences I gain here will guide me through my career. Thank you.

Hi Ranjini, there are a number of colleagues at Wawasan Open University who attended a face-to-face workshop at your University and I'm sure they will be willing to help you out. However, the level of support you will receive from our WikiEducator family is amazing! WE look forward to watching and helping you grow the wiki way. --Wayne Mackintosh 08:23, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Robert Benn

Hello from mostly sunny California!  I am a physics teacher in a public high school in Fremont, California. [Fremont is on the east shore of the San Francisco Bay, between Oakland and San José]

RobBenn.jpg
I think that a wiki will be just the thing to develop student interest and foster ownership in their learning.  The collaborative nature will help low confidence students discuss and add to the topic.  I am concerned about computer access.  Will all students have access to internet to do the work?  How much class time will it take to train the students?  Hopefully this class will answer some of these concerns?
By the way,  The "mostly sunny" is because the always famous San Francisco Fog often moves in to block the sky!

I am looking forward to learning/sharing with other educators, tips ideas and successes using wikis.--Robert Benn 05:45, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Robert, we're inspired by your Governors strong commitment to open text books. I'll be visiting SFO early August to help the Wikimedia Foundation on an important project -- hey perhaps we could catch up for a coffee to chat about those ideas for using wikis in your classroom? --Wayne Mackintosh 08:26, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Robert - I live in Marin, but teach part-time at DeAnza College in Cupertino. My course - Computers and the Internet in Society is entirely online. I use WikiEducator for the class - my stuff and students work collaboratively on projects. Because my course is a distance learning course, all students must have internet access to participate. You can make wiki work optional or one of the formats students may choose for their project "deliverable". Though not ideal, perhaps the students can work in groups so not all students need their own web access so long as the group does. Most of my students have had internet access in high school - in class, in the school media lab, at home, in the local library or community youth center. No "marine layer" aka fog in Marin today but it is cold and windy - typical summer weather. :o( --Valerie Taylor 00:33, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

It is a honour to be in the company of so many illustrious persons and I'm both thrilled and daunted by the expertise of you all. I am however eager to experience the other side of a coin that I've been familar with for most of my career, namely web development. Even though I am a contributor to another MediaWiki project http://www.esaach.org.za, and have been experimenting with MediaWiki; for my Masters research http://gravitysa.co.za, these initiatives are dissimilar to the Learning4Content one in that both the scale and the model (user-contributed) are larger then life. Most importantly though is the move away from an autocratic approach to a more democratised one, case in point would the burgeoning pace of Open Source Software development and initiatives such as Book Sprints - these typify that notion that 'sum of the parts is greater then the whole' (my preferered spin) on the phrase, 'the whole is greater then the sum of the parts'.Please go to my WikiEducator user page for more information about me.

Signing off for now.

Preggy

Hi Preggy, Welcome to WikiEducator. So glad that you have decided to join this workshop. My experience in WikiEducator has made me a real believer in a user-contributed, democratic process for the creation of learning materials. It's been wonderful and fun collaborating with people from around the world as together our "sum IS bigger than the whole". Good to meet you...and great start on your userpage! Trish Andrews

Hi everyone, I am a Senior Research Fellow for the DEHub project at the University of New England at Armidale in Northern New South Wales, Australia. However I live and work in Brisbane, interacting virtually with the rest of the project team and traveling down to Armidale every so often for some concentrated face-to-face work! The DEHub team has an active wikieducator site [6] and I am very keen to develop my skills in wikis to be able to contribute more fully to our site. I am also interested in exploring the ways in which such sites can support research activities.

Hi Trish, Welcome to WikiEducator. The DEHub project on WikiEducator is a wonderfully rich and important contribution to WikiEducator. I check in periodically to see what's new. I've seen it grow from just a page or two to a very deep resource. I'm so glad that you are interested to contribute and have joined this workshop. Your WikiNeighbor, --Alison Snieckus 19:20, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Trish, welcome to this workshop. DEHub is a great project and very useful to a large number of WE members. Keep adding, enjoy the workshop.--Dr. Gita Mathur 08:36, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi my name is Ravi, and I am an instructional designer working for Penn State World Campus. Although I have done work in wikis, I have never formally read or studied about them. So I thought it might be fun to participate in such a large project. I'm looking forward to learning alot and interacting with others in the group.

Welcome aboard - -its great to have colleagues from Penn State joining us. I had the privilege of visiting World Campus in 2007 on the invitation of Ken Udas, professional colleague of Garry Miller and good academic friend of Michael Moore - -so very chuffed to see a strong team from Penn State. Enjoy the workshop and you will definitely have fun! --Wayne Mackintosh 20:44, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello everyone! My name is Thabiso Saka. I am from Lesotho, My home country. I am a tutor at the Institute of Extra Mural Studies (IEMS) of the National University of Lesotho (NUL). I have been with the Institute for the past three years. I like to learn as much as possible about wiki-educator. It is my hope that I will successfully share with you some knowledge and skills from our different experiences. I am particularly interested in adding e-learning into my professional and career development.

Thank you.

Pls: How do I attach my photograph to this introduction? Please help!

Hi Thabiso -- Welcome from the Mountain country -- a beautiful part of Southern Africa. Sure you will learn a lot about WikiEducator and experience our community during this workshop. We will definitely be sharing our tapestry of diverse and rich experience from 50 countries. Don't worry about the photo just yet -- We will learn how to upload images later in the workshop. Some participants are working ahead of schedule ;-) --Wayne Mackintosh 20:48, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Thabiso, at the top of this page, someone asked a similar question and was given instructions. Have you tried to follow these? I hope you will be able to succeed in this task, but I will check back later to make sure. Also, this is a task that has more instruction later in the course as Wayne has commented above, so you may not want to worry about it for the present.--Jrradney 00:37, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

(Comment.gif: Dear Thabiso, welcome aboard. You will enjoy the learning curve of this workshop. Feel free to call on us. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 20:07, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

Elizabeth Mbasu

Picture of mbasu.jpg
Hello everyone! My names are Elizabeth Mbasu and I hail from Kenya; the beautiful country in East Africa. I work at Kenya Institute of Education and am already a L4C graduate since 2008. Am so passionate about use of OERs that I have found Pie Pie EduSols ,an initiative to promote collaboration and use of OERs among Kenya teachers through sharing. On board, I believe there is lots more to learn especially using the rich text editor and sharing in the rich diverse multicultural presence.
  • Hello Elizabeth! It's great what you are doing to promote OERs among other educators. I would like to know more as I am also trying to do the same. Perhaps you would be willing to share your experiences during our next live session scheduled for this Sunday? We are looking for particapants who would like to share their knowledge and skills using Wikieducator.--Benjamin Stewart 23:25, 22 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello Elizabeth - Welcome again to L4C! Please tell us more about your project and how we can help you. Many new L4C graduates are looking for meaningful projects where they can apply their new skills. You might be able to recruit some volunteers. --Valerie Taylor 01:05, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Elizabeth, It has been a long time. I am so pleased to see you here. Thank you also for your vision and foresight. Sometimes things take a little longer but they get there anyway and in time. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 20:10, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Elizabeth! Glad to meet my fellow Kenyan. I am also excited by your eLearning initiatives back home and I would like to meet you one day in Nairobi :) I have visited your place of work but somehow casually. Aleta Curry

Hi everyone. I'm Aleta, typing on a bitterly cold morning in the Southern Highlands of NSW, Australia. I'm here thanks to an invitation from Daniel over at The Citizendium, where I'm a specialist editor. Hoping to learn more about wiki stuff and to be helpful. I am easily frustrated by computer technology, and in that respect I can probably be helpful in explaining things to 'non-techies', since I empathise!

(Comment.gif: Hello Aleta and welcome to the workshop. Hoping to learn more and wanting to be helpful are exactly the qualities you need to be successful in WE! Don't worry about getting frustrated. The workshop is designed to take you step-by-step through the learning process, so no worries! If you have questions, your facilitators are sure to help. --Benjamin Stewart 00:36, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

Hello Aleta - I like WikiEducator because it is easy to produce great looking results! The formatting is consistent. Pictures can be added easily. Collaborating with others to produce something that is bigger and better than you can do as an individual is really exciting and rewarding. And other educators are willing and able to help you learn all this in just a few short weeks! Please ask us for help BEFORE you get frustrated. --Valerie Taylor 00:45, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Aleta, glad to see you made it and dived right in! Have you seen that Supten is around here too? I am looking forward to your comments on functionalities that are different here (e.g. edit mode, talk page layout, OOo converter), and wish you loads of rewarding interactions. Perhaps this community would be ripe for a Write-a-thon? --Daniel Mietchen 00:58, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I said 'hello' to Supten, but he's been quiet - probably swamped, as usual.
Sorry Aleta, you have caught me right on bad manners! :-) Supten 03:45, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
Not at all, Supten, I know how very busy you are! Ciao! Tallong 09:50, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
I think the first thing that struck me, Daniel, was that although at first glance they seem the same, wikis are all different!
Wiki educator Write a Thon - What a great idea! (Obviously I should have "watched" this page so I would see messages!) It's getting so long - so many good people from all over - wow!

Kathleen Texeira

Hi,

My name is Kathleen Texeira.I am an administrator at a Primary School for children ages 5-13 years in Trinidad, West Indies.I am very much interested in learning about wikis. I want to incorporate its use in teaching and learning in the classroom. I also want to observe its impact on motivating struggling readers to  become striving readers. In order to achieve this I must be competent at wikis. I am grateful for this opportunity and will encourage other administrators and teachers  to participate. It is also a wonderful experience to be able to collaborate with other educators from all around the globe:)

(Comment.gif: Hi Kathleen, welcome, it is great to have you join us, we are all on a shared learning journey here and I know you'll pick up lots of great ideas and ways in which you can use this in your teaching and learning as well as finding ways to help motivate struggling readers.) --HeatherDay 02:07, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Dear Kathleen, Many educators who came to the Wiki at some point have exactly moved on to do this are working with it in their classrooms. Check out the content page/tab of the WikiEducator Main page where you will find information on some of these projects. Look for a Biology class Declan McCabe has done. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 20:12, 23 July 2010 (UTC))

Hello world! This is Glenna from beautiful Central Pennsylvania in the Northeastern United States. I work at Pennsylvania State University as an Instructional Designer in a training department. I have utilized wikis for a collaborative tool in a variety of formats but am looking forward to seeing how it can better be utilized in a educational forum. I hope to focus on the pedigogy of its use and gather some insight into how other are actually using it in the classroom.

(Comment.gif: Hi Glenna, welcome, thanks for joining in, I'm sure you you come across lots of great examples of wiki use. I'm also interested in the pedogogical side of effectivly using wiki's so I would love to share in new ideas.) --HeatherDay 02:28, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hi Glenda, welcome. I am about to use a wiki with students in a f2f "workplace learning" unit I am teaching (starts Tuesday). Their first assignment is to develop a class wiki which will be a toolkit for trainers. Each person will be allocated a traning method which they must research and create a 1 page entry in the wiki to share with the whole class. They are giing criteria to meet eg: advantages/disadvantages of the method, hints for using the method effectively, examples & step x step instructions of how to conduct training using this method etc. So - just 1 example for you I'm sure others will be happy to share their examples :)) --jennip 02:37, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Kia ora and Hi everyone! I'm an Educational Developer at Otago Polytechnic in Dunedin, New Zealand. My main focus is on supporting and improving capability of staff in relation to learning and teaching skills. I have been facilitating several of my courses on WikiEducator for the last two years but may still feel like a newbie for quite a while yet. There is always something new and exciting to learn with WE that continually improves and enhances what you do and as always I'm looking forward to expanding my learning. :)

(Comment.gif: Hi Heather. Yes wikieducator is a great learning environment. I also learn something new everytime I visit. Enjoy the workshop! :) Cheers) --jennip 02:40, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Alison Kirkness

Hi Everyone, I hope I'm finally on board. I've been following everything without being able to contribute - some difficulty with passwords. I work in the area of language and culture as an academic developer at Auckland University of Technolgy, Auckland, NZ. I'm looking forward to learning more about this form of educational technolgy, and WikiEducator in particular, because it has such humanitarian goals. I've just read the interview Wayne Mackintosh gave on Creative Commons http://creativecommons.org/weblog/entry/22470 and suggest you might feel as inspired as I do by it. I'm hoping to catch up on lost ground over the wet cold weekend here in Auckland. What clever thinking to timetable the ten days of WikiEducator over two weekends! --Alison.kirkness 10:14, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Alison, welcome aboard! Restored your contribution inadvertently deleted by a participant practising there skills on this page. Now worries -- its a wiki and we can fix just about anything. Yeah -- have run hundreds of these workshops we recognise the realities of life in education -- there is so little time. So squeezing in two weekends gives folk more flexibility to manage their time on the wiki :-) --Wayne Mackintosh 10:38, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Wayne, I didn't want two entries so I deleted the older one but realise that must have deleted everything. Now I'm back in the same boat again - with two entries. Would you be able to delete the one below without my losing this one? Lucky you can't see the colour of my face!--Alison.kirkness 11:06, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Alison - I'm just across the road from you at the eLearning Group, University of Auckland with Cathy Gunn & others. Wayne, I added my introduction yesterday afternoon (on 23 July at about 0400 UTC I estimate). I saw it come up OK with my photo after I saved it, but in the meantime it's disappeared and I can't see my edit in the page history either. Perhaps it was deleted like Alison's? One problem may be that I had to jump up and head out when I realised I was late for picking up my youngest son from school, and I didn't hit save until I got home again about half an hour later. But if you are able to find & restore my introduction, I'd appreciate it! Great to be part of the workshop and thanks to you and the other facilitators for making it possible :) -Adam Blake Ablake88 02:29, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
  • I'm really glad you overcame the problems with passwords and have joined our little virtual village. The beauty of the wiki world is that it is a play area (not a performance area); when someone makes a mistake, it is of no more consequence that when we are making a tower and the blocks become unstable so the tower falls (except in this case, we just restore to before the tower fell, rather than having to start over). Your goal here should be to make lots of mistakes that you can learn from. Enjoy! --Jrradney 01:14, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi Alison. Have deleted your other entry. Wikis can be easy to fix (as well as having a mind of their own at times!) --Mverhaart 11:16, 23 July 2010 (UTC)/div>
Hi Alison, Welcome to WikiEducator. I see you have jumped right in. Welcome again. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 20:15, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Mabel Bothasitse

Hi Everyone, I hope I'm finally on board. My name is Mabel Bothasitse and have been following everything without being able to contribute - some difficulty with passwords. I work in the area of research for an institution of open and distace learning in Botswana. I am expecting to learn about the content development for wikieducator and how I can play a role in taking education to another level in little, cost free way. I support WikiEducator because its goals are clear and to the point; to inform the nations. I am slowly get on board. --Mabel 10:27, 23 July 2010 (UTC)Mabel

  • Mabel, I'm so glad you finally gained access! Not being able to participate can be so frustrating, especially when you 'know' that we are trying to be an open community of learning here. As facilitators, we don't want to intrude upon your learning, but we do always want to be available when you need help. There is a great group of facilitators and facilitator-trainees (I'm in this last category; you can help me get better at this!) offering help when you need it. It is really good that you are part of our community!--Jrradney 20:15, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Dear Mabel, I know connectivity can be a challenge even in our hemisphere it can happen, so glad you gained access and can be part of this exciting course. Warm wishes--Patricia Schlicht 20:20, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

  • Hi, Smitha! I must admit, I had to look Kerala up on Google Earth to see where it is (apparently I'm more geographically-challenged than I thought--smile). It looks lush, fertile, and wonderful in many ways. You probably don't get much of the weather we get here in British Columbia (western) Canada. I imagine your gardens produce food all year long (while ours only grow during our very short summers (June-September). Perhaps later in the workshop you will upload some pictures on your user page, so we can see how beautiful Kerala is. Thank you for your introduction.--Jrradney 20:26, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
  • Hello Smitha. Good to meet you on the forum. I am in Dunedin and in the middle of winter. We have not had much snow yet, and a "warm" day is 12 degrees celsius. Kerala sounds very warm and lush. <smile> The video "Wikis in Plain English", one of the Day 2 tasks is worth a look. --Bronwynh 06:13, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

My name is Chelsey I am working for an organization called Canadian Women for Women in Afghanistan, that focus's on providing education to women and children in Afghanistan. I am trying to learn the Wiki so that I can facilitate a Wiki for the organization. (Let's hope I can do it!)

I am from Canada but am currently a student at Arizona State University pursuing my Masters in Social Justice and Human Rights. • I have been amazed at the information that has been coming over CBC radio concerning Afghanistan over the past year. There have been interviews with women leaders and musicians on many of the social issues confronting that society. I hope you can make good progress in managing a wiki for CanWFWiA (or maybe that CWWA?). Enjoy your time in Arizona (I graduated from Monument Valley High School on the Navajo Nation at Kayenta--about a hundred years ago); speaking for the contingent of Canadians in this course, we'll keep your dogsled ready for when you return (smile).--Jrradney 23:57, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Kia Ora, Hola, Hello. I am a scientist and biology teacher at the University of Auckland. Love brains, love education and love collaboration. I volunteer for the olpc project as a tester with the New Zealand testing group, and am looking forward to doing some collaborative work in this space. Isn't it a shame that much of our knowledge is stuck inside our brains where it cannot be easily accessed?

Hello Fabiana - Welcome. WikiEducator is a great place to share what's in our brains. Any time you have the urge to make some of your knowledge available, just create an OER in WikiEducator. It is great for course notes, student projects, link lists, whatever... All contributions appreciated. And the community of WikiEducators is most welcoming. Enjoy! --Valerie Taylor 13:02, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Sorry I am late introducing myself but I have been grading exams. Many of you know what that is like;-) I'm Dennis Maloney and I work at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral in Guayaquil, Ecuador (just below the equator). I teach English as a Foreign Language to undergraduates and ICTs in English Language Teaching to masters students. I certainly do, Dennis. Welcome! Tell us something about yourself. What are your interests? What do you teach? What do you hope to get out of this workshop? etc. --Benjamin Stewart 17:49, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
We share common interests in TESOL. I hope to have opportunities to collaborate! --Benjamin Stewart 19:04, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Gisela Suarez

Hi everyone!

I'm from Aguascalientes, Mexico.  I've been teaching EFL for 6 years and I'm currently working at a public university (UAA) and a private high school. I love my job! I joined this workshop because I want to learn wiki skills and then incorporate them in my classes.  It's a great idea to share resources like WE because people from around the world have the opportunity to learn and collaborate with others. I'm looking forward to working and sharing with you all! (Comment.gif: Hi Gisela, Welcome to this workshop. You a absolutely right about WE being the right place for teachers who believe in OER's You will meet many like minded WikiFriends here. Warm wishes--Dr. Gita Mathur 18:26, 25 July 2010 (UTC))

Hello Gisela! It's great to have you in the workshop. As I have been telling Chito, Monica, and others, those who participate in this workshop will be at an advantage in August when we offer a similar workshop to all teachers in Fomento. Enjoy the workshop and let me know if I can be of any assistance. By the way, using this icon in the toolbar automatically inserts your signature which you can use each time you post a message in WE. --Benjamin Stewart 20:48, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Shivaani Selvaraj

Hello everyone,

I'm also sorry to be late- it's been a busy week. I currently work as an Instructional Designer at Penn State University - there are at least a couple of us here. I'm excited about OER and the harnessing of new media and technologies for education and social justice. I've been a community organizer and have learned a lot by experimenting with digital tools to amplify messages and create new networks. Lately I've been consulting with a couple of organizations around using collaborative tools and I wanted to brush up on wikis. I'm looking forward to sharing and learning from you all!

(Comment.gif: No need to apologise -- We all have busy schedules and WE understand. Do what you can at times which suite your schedule -- It should be easy enough to catch up on the first few days. Welcome aboard! --Wayne Mackintosh 00:01, 26 July 2010 (UTC))

Adam Blake

Adam 2010 70x86.jpg
Hi everybody – What a great range of participants! The introduction I posted on Friday has disappeared so here’s a quick replacement. I’m a learning designer/senior tutor in e-learning at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. I teach online and off, and work with individual academics and in support of university-wide projects, all aimed at enhancing learning and teaching with technologies and increasing staff capacity to make good use of e-learning. (BTW, it’s great to see staff taking part in this workshop from the Centre for Flexible and Distance Learning, University of the South Pacific, who kindly hosted two of my colleagues last week as they worked on developing our HEART learning design support strategy – thanks!) I’m just getting started on a PhD in e-learning & global health, with the broad working title Development of a sustainable partnership framework for utilising university courses, open educational resources and e-learning to address health & social needs in the Pacific. I'm heading off soon to do a PhD orientation course in development research at the Centre for Development Research, University of Bonn. I’m excited about the way that communities/environments like WikiEducator can foster learning for capacity development. Best, Adam Ablake88 23:23, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
  • I'm very glad you persevered, Adam. It is very good to have this background on your work and your future plans for education. I know that this topic will bring us a lot of new ideas and vigour at WikiEducator, and hopefully WE will be able to challenge some of the material you are encountering in your program courses from time to time. Thank you for your introduction.--Jrradney 23:34, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: Hi Adam -- great to see you here and glad you could make it. Sorry about your intro going missing -- its an unusually large workshop and a Newbie may have inadvertently overwritten your post. Once we move over to our user pages -- this won't be an issue. Thanks for reposting and welcome to our family. --Wayne Mackintosh 00:04, 26 July 2010 (UTC))
(Comment.gif: Thanks to you both for your great work in facilitating this mega-sized workshop. I'm a newbie to MediaWiki so the 'disappearance' of my introduction may well be my own fault! cheers, Adam Blake 04:07, 26 July 2010 (UTC))
(Comment.gif: Hi Adam from just up the street. Great to see you here. If you want, we should talk about what you are doing on your PhD, seems to overlap quite a bit with something we are stewing with Peter Thorne, from Pysiology and Audiology.)--Fabiana Kubke 05:44, 27 July 2010 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: Hi Fabiana - Yes, Peter's name came up in relation to the Global Health Group when I first started contacting people to discuss my plans. Early days yet - I'm still trying to see through my PhD registration! - but would be good to keep in touch on this. I'm going to settle on a way of recording/disseminating progress on the project (maybe via WikiEducator!) and will send you details as soon as I have. Do you have anything online in relation to your project yet? cheers, Adam Blake 20:55, 27 July 2010 (UTC))

Gaelyn Douglas

Hi, everyone, I have recently joined wikieducator as part of a team from Massey University in New Zealand. We intend to contribute to this site through our project work as part of our postgraduate diplomas in e-learning. It is great to be on board and looking forward to finding out as much as possible about this technology. Cheers --Gaelyn 01:10, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Hi Gaelyn --- welcome aboard. WE were very impressed with the work done on last year's project through Massey Uni. Its a great initiative. Welcome to our family. Perhaps there are opportunities under this project that would qualify for an OERNZ bounty project -- do take a look. --Wayne Mackintosh 01:14, 26 July 2010 (UTC))

P.Chitralekha

Hello everyone. I am an associate professor of botany in Dyal Singh Collge, University of Delhi, India. I have been teaching botany to undergraduate students for the past 17 years. I like teaching but my interest always has been in research in plant sciences. Curiosity to know about wikieducator program and to findout whether through this training I will be able to share knowledge I have accumulated over the years made me sign up for this workshop. I hope I am able to actively participate and learn the basic skills to develop OER. I hope to enhance my knowledge through discussions and am sure Wikiknowledge will help me become a better teacher. But I fail understand how econtent can help the millions of students in India who do not have access to a computer.--Dr.P.Chitralekha 10:54, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Dear Chitralekhaji, ref. your concerns for providing computer access to millions of students, Lets feel proud that India has developed laptop under $35 (USD) with the support of IITs and IISc (and working on to bring the cost to $20 and then to $10) so may be HRD Ministry very soon would be able to provide the same to the schools or students. Afshana Anzeg

Hello everyone. I am Afshana from the Fiji Islands. Fiji is a little dot in the South Pacific ocean and incase some of you are not are not very familiar about my home land... its the land of the flying Fijians (in rugby terms). This is the first time I have joined a Wiki workshop and I hope to learn a lot from this.

  • Hi, Afshana! It is great to have you with us all the way from Fiji. We are all happy to help as you practice your wiki skills in this workshop. Please let us know, if we can help guide you in any way; the best way we have found to provide guidance is to allow you to add and edit whatever you wish on your userpage and its subpages. We will keep an eye out and suggest improvements as we see possibilities. You can also ask your facilitators questions on your userpage, and we will respond as we are able. --Jrradney 23:47, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Fiona Bulman

Greetings to this very wide community. The size and scale of this is a bit intimidating for someone who knew about one of the first main frame computers in South Africa (that filled a room) but was too intimidated to go in an meet it face to face. Now there is this huge community just in one wiki educator project going on all the time and all over the palce. WoW.

The only trouble is that working through this course gets confusing at times - then when you get something to work it becomes quite addictive - then I will be late for work!!! Totsiens! --Fiona Bulman 04:49, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi Fiona, and you keep trying different things to see what will happen on the preview page and then you tweak it a few times... I know. However, you have a sandbox to play in and there are people to help when something doesn't work. Richardnz 10:03, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Shekhar P.Sharma

Hello Participants and Facilitators I am Shekhar from Virginia, USA.I do not have any back ground in Teaching. I joined WE to bring Disaster Management online for communities around the globe. It is my passion to help communities get prepared for natural and man-made disasters. I am here as a student and learner.

I need help in uploading my picture to begin with and then to know about my Facilitator.
(Comment.gif: Hello Shekhar, You are very welcome to this eL4C41 Online workshop. Regarding uploading photo, please see details as explained on the top of this Introductions page (in response to a question asked by our fellow colleague). Warm Wishes. --Ramesh Sharma 14:01 27 July 2010 (UTC))

I am still getting the error message: You must provide the original source of the image, author of the work and a license.

  • Oh, I see now! So you uploaded the image using the "upload file" link, but when you try to complete this process the error message is telling you it needs more information. In particular the system is trying to obtain a claim from you that you are the source and author of anything you are trying to upload (WikiEducator does not want to violate any copyright laws in regard to anything posted). In the same dialog box that show the filename of the image you are uploading, there are several lines of information with the following strings (examples only, not a complete list):
  • Source=
  • Author=
  • etc.
  • What you need to do is add information after each of the equals signs (=) in the list. You also need to select the proper licence before you will be allowed to upload and display your image. It is a rather complex procedure, but it ensures that we are not in violation of either our WikiEducator commitments or copyright law.--Jrradney 20:05, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I am a Quality Assurance IT Professional in New York. I am interested in learning more about the wiki environment. I am in the process of returning to school and am hoping that learning more about this environment will give me an edge in deciding a new career path.

      • Hi Sharon, welcome to the wiki. I'm pretty sure that learning wiki skills won't be wasted and I'm sure you will meet many interesting people in the process. Richardnz 09:01, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Rajitha Sebastian

I have a Masters Degree in Commerce. Presently, I work for Vodafone as a Customer Relations Officer.

I am a teacher at heart. Before being employed by Vodafone, I worked as the Computer Trainer for an Anglo Indian High School. At school and college, I was active in Music and Band teams. I have come here to learn Wiki skills.

I have done a little bit of Stocks,Shares and investments after college. I teach 'Financial Intelligence' to my friends. I use "Rich Dad Poor Dad" a wonderful book by Robert Kiyosaki for the purpose.

My extra curricular activity is helping young people overcome shyness, develop confidence in themselves etc. I manage the administration for eBalajanasakhyam, a youth club where we arrange global networking with peers of comparable age to learn each others culture and to help cultivate international brotherhood. Hopefully, the youth club will be able to contribute to and benefit from WE.

  • Wow, Rajitha! I'm really excited to see how you develop open education resources for financial intelligence. This is an important area for us all to become better at. Since you are a teacher at heart, you have definitely found the right place to develop your skills for life-long community-based learning.--Jrradney 19:22, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

(Comment.gif: Dear Rajitha, good to know about you. May be we also need some "intelligent financial tips"!--R C Sharma, PhD 18:59, 30 July 2010 (UTC))

Ibrahim Latif

Lat.jpg

My name is posted above. I am a Ghanaian living in Ghana specifically in Kumasi the capital of the Ashanti region which doubles as Ghana's second city. I am a National Service Personnel (Teaching/Research Assistant) with the Dept of Agricultural Economics in the Faculty of Agriculture-KNUST. Basically, organize tutorials for undergraduate students in my faculty in courses like Introductory computer, statistics, MIS and Design and Analysis of Experiments. I have a passion for research in Agricultural and Rural projects and will love to contribute my quota in the nearest future to the development of this field. Having gone through Web 2.0 Education, I cant help but feel that in it is an enormous potential to improve collaboration and communication between students and professors and between researchers and their colleagues domiciled in the same country at different locations or colleagues located entirely outside the country. The concept of wikis can be harnessed for collaboration in conducting and supervising interdisciplinary and multi-locational researchers at the same time. This could as well be used in the gathering, refinement and dissemination of real time information.

  • And fun, Ibrahim! Seriously, learning is a social activity so I'm sure you will enjoy participating in this journey, let me know if I can help. Kind regards. Richardnz 09:03, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

Brendan Smith

A happy group at the end of a semester

For the past seven years I have been teaching English in Vietnam. I hark from New Zealand  where I had a career in business journalism. Now I am putting my business savvy to good use in supporting students who are embarking on their own career in the business world by pursuing a business degree. Through my association with WikiEducator I am to build students' capacity to use all forms of technology with ease.

Vietnam is a grand place to observe all the trials and tribulations of a developing country trying to break free from its Third World tag. It is making good progress from a poverty rate of 29% in 2000, but still upward of 10 per cent of the population are mired in a life situation where they have to survive on US$1 a day - that's 20,000 Vietnamese dong, enough for four lightly filled bread rolls.

Great ambition Brendan, if I can help let me know. I call New Zealand home these days and have enjoyed my travels in Vietnam also. Richardnz 03:34, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Shikha Raturi

Hello everyone. I am Shikha and currently living in Fiji and consider myself a global citizen! I have been teaching Chemistry in different countries for more than 20 years. I strongly support (and practice) the idea of use of technology in education. I am passionate about elearning and its potential. Kavita Dev

Hello, I am Kavita, working as a data processing supervisor in Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, Nashik, Maharashtra, India. I came to know about this activity a little late, so I am joining today. I am looking forward to do research work in the area of elearning.

  • Welcome, Kavita! Late is much better than never (smile). We are glad to have you come along. You will need to complete the tutorials in the order they are presented, but this typically has only required half an hour per day. Watch the videos for each day and work through the tutorials on each wiki skill. You may need to seek out more help, rather than expecting facilitators to be monitoring your work closely, since many of them must move on to other tasks after the workshop. If you would like to leave a note here, though (or on my user page--click on my signature at the end of this reply), I would be happy to place your user page on my 'watchlist' so I receive notifications when you change your pages in any way--this is not to spy on you (smile); just to be available to help in case of need. Have fun with this, and call out for any help you need.--Jrradney 19:07, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Rodrigo Nejm

Hello everyone, I'm psychologist and work as e-safety awareness director at SaferNet Brazil, a NGO that works to promote Human Rights on the Internet. I have been working with teachers, children and parents to promote a safe and ethical use of cyberspace in different regions of Brazil. We have a team of free software developers to build IT skills to operate our cybercrime hotline but we are also developing all our materials with the Open Educational Resource perspective. For us is a pleasure to join so many important and motived educators.

Arron Pawlowicz

Hello world! I'm playing catch-up with this workshop as i have been hiking the high Serrias of California, in the shadow of the highest peak in the the United States of America, Mt. Whitney. I'm living in a small town named Carpinteria, which is about 10 minutes south of Santa Barbara, California. It is at a smallish graduate level school/insitution called Pacifica Graduate Institution I work as a circulation librarian. Because the school is a hybrid of off-site and on-site learning the library is always trying to find ways to interact and engage with students through the use of technology. When one of the reference librarians handed me a flier for this online workshop I thought this as a valuble and worthwhile pursuit to learn about and engage in. One can never have to many tools in their tool box!

  • Welcome to the workshop, Arron! Please see my response to Kavita's introduction above; the same offer of help applies.--Jrradney 19:09, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

Valerie Bross

Hello, Everyone! I'm also catching up with the group. I'm living in Los Angeles, California, working as a librarian. I'm very appreciative of the way this workshop has been set up to allow us to work at our own speed.

  • Welcome, Valerie! As with Arron and Kavita above, I would be happy to help, should you need it. Please refer to my offer to Kavita for details. --Jrradney 19:10, 2 August 2010 (UTC)

I am a Nutritionist and a PhD student at Department of Human Nutrition, Faculty of Public Health, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria. I am an e-learning Course Coordinator at National Open University Of Nigeria, Lagos Nigeria. I entered into the workshop so that I can be able to know how to communicate with the wiki community as well my students in the wiki environment. So far, I am enjoying it and making progress.

However, I have a question. How do i go back to the the main page after working on my sandbox in my user page?
