My name is Kassimu Nihuka, I work as a lecturer in the Institute of Continuing Education at the Open University of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam – Tanzania. Since August 2007, I joined the department of Curriculum, Instruction and Media Application (CIMA)in the faculty of Behavioral sciences at Twente University in the Netherlands for a four years PhD program in Educational technology under Nuffic scholarship. My current PhD research focuses on 'Supporting collaborative course design for e-learning delivery at the Open University of Tanzania' .
I am a teacher by profession. I have worked as a Biology teacher in several secondary schools in Tanzania before joining Open University of Tanzania as an assistant lecturer.
I hold Bachelor of science with education, master of education in science education and master of science in educational science and technology.
Reading books and scholary papers, bloging, chating, gardening, reading newspapers, watching TV, Movies, face booking and several others.
I enjoy life as a professional teacher especially in a challenging environment of higher education. Moreover, working in a distance learning university is even a more exciting experience especially for someone from a conventional, campus based university. I find experiencing Wiki first hand as a great opportunity for professional growth and enhancement of effective students support in distance education and for my students in particular.
I am humble, out going, warm to friends and open minded.
My wiki projects
Will come to this soon.!
My optional community service (learning contract) project
||By signing this optional learning contract I will try to complete my training in basic wiki editing skills to achieve the status of a Wikibuddy. In return for this free training opportunity, I will give the gift of knowledge by donating or developing at least one free content resource licensed under a CC-BY-SA or CC-BY license which can be used by myself (and others) on WikiEducator.|
| Brief description of project
|| My project will involve writing an article on instructors and students perceptions, competences and access to e-learning technologies: Implications for e-learning implementation at the Open University of Tanzania.
Although the proposed article is based on a context study at the Open university of Tanzania, its findings and experiences described in the article may be relevant and useful to other distance education universities especially in the sub-Sahara African countries.
Target date for completion
Probably by mid August, 2010
