My Profile

Hello everyone , I am Sayali Dubash from Pune, India. I am a student of E-B.Ed. Recently got an opportunity to attend a workshop on OER & FOSS, which not only gave me a glimpse of the kind of OER and FOSS available but at the same time made me aware of the extent of their reach too. I am looking forward to attend this workshop and gain further knowledge on OER development. I believe in co-operative learning and looking forward to interact with the coordinators as well as all the participants. One of my E-B.Ed project “Technology Integration in to Education”, is ongoing at a Z.P.School. (District School) These schools cater to the lower income group with minimal funding from government, thus acquiring expensive technology & software at least for the time being is a distant dream for them. According to me the OER and FOSS developed will prove to be very beneficial for these types of schools.

=== Project 2- Joy Of Sharing Forever ===

“The joy of sharing forever” is an activity initiated by me in the month of September 2009, in the hope of narrowing the gap between the HAVE & HAVE NOT. SHARING, Is it really limited to just giving away things like clothes, books or money? According to me it is much more than that. It is that selfless attitude of dedicating oneself to the integral development of a person or a society or a nation. SHARING, which is not limited to only money, which never demands extravagant things, which can be done anywhere anytime, is a wonderful gift that all the humans posses. It is so very true that once the feeling of SHARING is embedded into our souls the joy of celebrating our life also remains with us forever. For further details please visit the blog- [1]

As the first activity under “The joy of sharing forever” the Z.P. School No.2, Lohegaon, Pune, India (Girls school) has been selected. Please note that the school has very basic amenities and requires lot of external help for providing quality education to their students. Nonetheless lack of proper infrastructure has not hampered the enthusiasm of each student of entering into the digital world.

The eagerness and enthusiasm of students to learn, has given birth to the idea of creating a “COMPUTER LAB & DIGITAL LIBRARY” Kindly note that so far 6 computers have been granted to the school under the “Serva Shikshan Abhiyan”- Education for all. Also the village community, including the Sarpanch (Head) of the village has donated money to buy things such as computer tables etc. Still lots need to be done on the front of ensuring qualitative education to the students. When the world is talking about theories of Multiple Intelligence and constructivism on the other hand online education and virtual schools, it becomes the responsibility of the fortunate to share whatever is in their capacity with the less fortunate.

Following are the possible categories, To participate in the ongoing project of Joy of sharing forever: 1- Time for the school to participate in teaching activities, related to computers, health, personality development, career counseling or anything related to own field of interest etc... 2- Donation in the form of educational CDs/ DVDs- Movies, Songs, Games etc......... for creating the digital library at the school 3- Donation in the form of required material for the computer lab- Stools, Computer related books, work books etc.........

=== Project 3- Spoken Tutorials" ===

Spoken Tutorials are wonderful way of creating "Talking Lessons". To have an overview about this tool kindly visit the link: [2]

= == Making the difference in "LIFE" == =

“HUMANITY” has to be revived, strengthened and should be given utmost importance in each one’s life. “WE” the people of today, as the citizens of this globe and now an integral part of e-culture, have this immense responsibility of spreading this message “Humanity above All”.

 During my E.B.Ed journey I am fortunate to have come across with following three organizations. These organizations believe in “Humanity through education”. Though all three of them are working in different setups & at different levels, their aim is to achieve the ultimate goal of “Universal Human Value Education” making a difference in each and every life promoting “Humanity above all”

Bahai academy.JPG
 “The Bahá’í Academy”

[3]

The Bahá’í Academy is a non-profit organization that was established in Panchgani, Maharashtra, three decades ago. Since the year 2000 the academy has engaged in an innovative educational programme called “Education in Universal Human Values”. The Programme promotes personal development of college and university students and empowers them to contribute to social progress, harmony, peace and human rights. The opportunity to develop such capabilities is otherwise unavailable to the youth in institutions of higher learning. Through many years of research and experience, the courses have been designed to meet the needs for holistic development of the youth of today. The Bahá’í Academy is situated in Panchgani, a peaceful hill station about 4300 feet above mean sea level, its 'Permanent Seat' overlooks a scenic valley, and mountain range with farm land terraces, and is surrounded by trees and gardens . The Academy functions in close collaboration with various universities and colleges. It also has award winning international collaborators including FUNDAEC (Columbia) and the Association for Creative Moral Education (Russia) both of which have received international acclaim for undertaking innovative educational programmes for the past several decades.

As a part of our ongoing E.B.Ed program curriculum we have studied the first module of FUNDAEC i.e. Moral Capabilities. This module has had a great impact on my mind. The most important thing about learning this particular “Universal Human Values” program is the immediate implementation through service learning activities. These service learning activities are to be carried out within our own family, our extended family and our community. The program is not just restricted to identifying the need for change but also identifying an individual’s role as the change agent for the family & society. Further in this program an individual is guided in the areas of developing skills, attitudes, spiritual qualities, concepts & knowledge for following one’s rectitude of conduct.

There are regular workshops conducted at the academy. The cooperative and collaborative learning activities complementing the module are the highlights of these workshops. To get further details about the workshops one can contact Dr. Lesan Azadi, Director Bahá’i Academy Email: director@bahaiacademy.org

“Akanksha
”

[4]

I had an opportunity to work with Akanksha foundation as a volunteer. It was a wonderful phase of my life which not only gave me a different perspective towards living a meaningful life but at the same time guided me towards the path of humanity. It was a great experience of non formal teaching for children coming from underprivileged category of the society. The Akanksha Foundation is a non-profit organization which works mainly to equip underprivileged students with the education, skills and character they need to lead empowered lives. Akanksha works primarily in the field of education, addressing non formal education through the Akanksha centre and also formal education through the Akanksha Schools.

Over the past 20 years, the organization has expanded from 15 children in one centre to over 3500 children in 58 centres and 6 schools. A commitment is made to support each child by giving him or her a strong educational foundation, a good time, self esteem and values, and to help them plan how they can earn a steady livelihood as a step towards improving their standard of living.

“Grammangal”

[5]

I had an opportunity to visit one of the exhibitions held by “Grammangal”. Grammangal is an NGO working in Maharashtra, India and is dedicated to providing quality education to tribal and rural children. The specialty of “Grammangal” is their belief in the modern education theories such as brain-based learning, constructivism, cognitive science and Multiple Intelligence. The “Hobby Home” concept introduced by them is really unique. Through these homes now they have extended their education for the urban children as well. Grammangal also provides training for teachers. Do visit their colourful website to understand their methodology, ideas related to different educational aids and the different types of settings through which the education is provided to the roots of India. </div>
