My profile

Hello. I am a high school science teacher in a public school in Northern California.  I teach physics and general science in Fremont, California.  Fremont is midway between Oakland  and San José on the east shore of the San Franciso Bay.  Fremont has been in the news lately as it will become home to the Tesla electric car manufacuring facility.  We are just north of "Silicon Valley".

I am interested in learning wikis to use as a tool in my classroom.  I hope to use it for both Advanced Placement Physics and general freshmen science classes

Professional background

I have been teaching physical science for 20 years.  I did three years at middle school (8th grade) and the rest at high school.

Education

  • Undergraduate Education: University Of California, Davis

            Major: Philosophy   Minors: Education,   Physics

  •   Post graduate:  San José State University

Secondary Credential:  Physics, Chemistry and general Science

My interests

Professional

My school Is starting a Science Magnet Program.  I am trying to develope courses and programs that will lead to an Energy management strand.  This strand would be a series of courses that lead students to careers and  study in Energy management ant Environmental Science.

Personal

I am interested in Appropriate Energy Technology.  That is to say reduce what you use, use energy wisely, and choose the most globally appropriate source.

My wiki projects

My optional community service (learning contract) project

100px-L4C-small.png  Agreement
By signing this optional learning contract I will try to complete my training in basic wiki editing skills to achieve the status of a Wikibuddy. In return for this free training opportunity, I will give the gift of knowledge by donating or developing at least one free content resource licensed under a CC-BY-SA or CC-BY license which can be used by myself (and others) on WikiEducator.
Brief description of project
I would like to work on a study guide for my Integrated Science class.  Students in the class will be  creating a  glossary/ studyguide/text.  The class is supposed to be a mixture of all sciences but there is no book that covers all of the required state standards.  Wy work would consist of stting up a framework and creating/ editing some templates for students to use.
Target date for completion
I would like semester one (THE PROTOTYPE) done by JAnuary 3 so students could use it to study for final exams in Late JAnuary

Feedback and notes from my WikiNeighbours

Dear Robert, Can you share with us your experiences on what was most beneficial to you on learning wiki skills? --R C Sharma, PhD 14:43, 3 August 2010 (UTC) sure so far the most valuable skill is just learning how the wiki "works"  how you add pages and edit.  I hope this is the right place to comment!!!--Robert Benn 04:51, 4 August 2010 (UTC)
