- Measuring our open education
Wikieducator is one of many external web services that staff at Otago Polytechnic use to develop education resources. As you can see above, a number of staff use blogs for professional development, and some use blogs in their courses. Several use Youtube, Blip.tv and Archive.org for video. Others use Wikibooks to develop text books, and so on.
Here on Wikieducator we keep curriculum documents. Course descriptions, course schedules, learning and assessment activities, research documents, project plans, and reports. Some of the more established courses we have developed on Wikieducator tend to follow the course schedule model. That being a page in the wiki that includes all the information about the course, including the time table and topics covered. Each topic has a description of activities, and links out to learning resources wherever they may be on the Internet.

Wiki-based courses
Selected courses are hosted on WikiEducator fostering an open resource-based learning approach:
- Assessing and Evaluating for Learning
- Assessing for Prior Learning
- Evaluation of eLearning for Effective Practice.
- This course is project-based and participants plan and carry out an evaluation project in their workplace. Participants develop their evaluation plans collaboratively using Class Projects pages on WikiEducator. They keep individual blogs to document their progress and reflections on the evaluation process, and these are linked to a course blog.
- Awareness about the concepts of flexible learning is nurtured in this course. Participants are involved in re-designing their curricula using flexible learning approaches, and are exposed to a model of teaching using the wiki for content and a course blog for communication. Resources are shared using social bookmarking, and participants are encouraged to contribute.
