Welcome WikiEducators,

Gladys Gahona is a mexican private teacher. In 1981 she graduated in chemical engineering at Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán (UADY), in Mérida, Yucatán, México. In 2002 she graduated in Technology Management at UADY.

For over thirty years she has taught mathematics, physics and chemistry. Currently she owns a small academy where she teaches: AF Centro. She has been in touch with computer technology since 1980 and started navigating the Internet since the early 90's.

The knowledge she has gained in teaching/tutoring comes from her personal experiences and self-studies. She has also been a self learner in computing, web programing, ITC and web 2.0 platforms and tools.

As a perseverant learner and passioned for challenges, she has spent thousands of hours seeking new ways to integrate personal learning experiences into her teaching activities.

She has devoted her professional life to her two passions: teaching and learning.

Expertise.pngMy areas of expertise

  • I am Chemical Engineer by professional formation. Worked in engineering from 1981 to 1983, when I had to quit, responding on "mother nature calling" (got high risk pregnancy). So it marked the end on my proffesion (chemical engineer) activities.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Technology Management. 2002
  • I am teacher by vocation. I consider myself as a permanently self-learner on this activity since 1976. I started teaching Maths to kids on a secondary school. At that time I started working in Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán, as assistant on several educational researching activities and colaborative jobs with people from different countries. Later, I started a private teaching small institute.
  • About computing topics, I'm a self-learner:
    • I've been using several applications:
      • MSDOS
      • Windows on all versions (except Windows Vista)
      • Microsoft Office
      • Adobe Suites (Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash CS3, Illustrator, Photoshop, Audition, Premier, etc.)
      • Web development (HTML, CSS, Newbie in PHP/MySQL)
      • Open source apps. (Open Office, Mozilla, Audacity, VirtualDubMod,
      • Software for business management
    • And some Web 2.0 technologies & resources
      • Blogging
      • Networking on Xing, Facebook, LinkedIn, Hi5, etc.
      • Now I'm discovering Ning
      • Image's sharing networks like Flickr, ImageHack, Picassa Google
      • Paper's sharing networks like SlideShare, Scribd, WiziQ, AutorStream
      • Media sharing networks like YouTube, TeacherTube, GoogleVideo, Blip.tv
      • Addicted to WikiEducator
      • [math]\mathrm{L\!\!^{{}_{\scriptstyle A}} \!\!\!\!\!\;\; T\!_{\displaystyle E} \! X} \,[/math] initiated, that means learning, learning, learning...
