My profile
Hi! I'm a 60 years old Mexican TEFL teacher working in a private junior high school in Oaxaca City, Oaxaca State, Mexico. I love technology because I think internet is a wonderful tool that allows us to share our knowledge, doubts, problems, triumphs and discoveries with the whole world! We can go back to the times when our known world was small and we could talk with our collegues and neighboors easily. In that golden epoch human beings shared values and knowledge and there were not any barriers to avoid the spreading of knowledge. Thanks to the web we can get in contact and collaborate with lots of people around the world in an instant and fast way! Wikis are a magnificent tool to do this collaborative work. So learning to use them is the first step to open and share the treasures that we can develope abd create as a community for the benefit of all our human species. I'm sure about it! it could seem a dream at first sight, but I'm sure it is perfectly feasible as long as we all work with our hearts and faith on this magnificent dream!
Professional background
I'm a retired Civil Engineer, and I have been working as a TEFL teacher in a junior high school for about seven years now! I'm also studying on line to get a bachelor degree in language teaching. I do this at the Mexico Autonomous National University UNAM. I love stydying and having the opportunity to apply my new knowledge with my students. I love teaching teens and although my groups are really big ( 42 to 45 students), I can manage them well most of the time! And I love my work and the teens exhuberance!
Education
I have a bachelor degree in Civil engineering, and now I'm getting my bachelor degree in Foreign language teaching on line, I just finished my third semester.
My interests
Reading, teaching, painting in water colors, using technology in education, cooking and reading.
Professional
Becoming a better teacher, offer my students the best. A good example,an inspiration!
Personal
Education gives me the opportunity to get in contact with young people and try to establish a dialogue with them in order to find common dreams and share knowledge and work. I'm 60 years old, and my teen students are a very different culture than mine, but I think it is possible and very important to build bridges for the sake of our planet.
Maybe someone would like to know some photos of my city: Oaxaca de Juárez, capital of the state of Oaxaca, and called de Juárez for the first indian President of Mexico: Benito Juárez, a Zapotec Indian native from the Sierra Norte, an impressive chain of mountains just North of the City. South of the city, there are the ruins of Monte Albán, a Zapotec city built in the Classic Epoch and abandoned in the 7th century BC.
The modern city lies on a lovely valley shaped as a T, at the arms and body crossing. It is full of churches and museums. These are two places that I love: the Santo Domigo convent and church, in the histortic center, and a Zapotec mural in Monte Alban.
My wiki projects
- I registered for eL4C41,and eL4C42 a Learning4Content workshop to learn wiki skills.
- I registered my name in the list of my country: Mexico
Some interesting pages, among many!
- Chela`s Page, a Math teacher from Yucatán.

- EFL Writing Practice
My optional community service (learning contract) project
I want to build a wiki for my fellow teachers at my school so they can learn to apply the new technologies in education. I have already a wiki for my fellow TEFL teachers at my state; Oaxaca. The address is Oaxaca TEFL Teachers I also want to start a new wiki for my students in order to post contributions for group projects.
Agreement |
By signing this optional learning contract I will try to complete my training in basic wiki editing skills to achieve the status of a Wikibuddy. In return for this free training opportunity, I will give the gift of knowledge by donating or developing at least one free content resource licensed under a CC-BY-SA or CC-BY license which can be used by myself (and others) on WikiEducator. |
Brief description of project |
I'd like to make a wiki in Spanish for the teachers in my high school. Most of them do not speak English and they are very afraid of technology! I will try to share ideas and tools for using technology to enliven our lessons and use imagination in our classrooms. I will try to make a page with a free content resource. This will be a project for EFL 8th grade students. |
Target date for completion |
Three weeks after finishing this shop, and then continue working on it in the next course. |

I have started alreay the page to describe the project for 8th EFL students. When working in this project, it is important to have this chart handy to save a lot of work:
Other wiki projects that interest me
- I like very much THE CONSTRUCTIVIST EXCERCISES FOR TEACHER TRAINING. I'm studying to get my bachelor degree but I find that the page of Agnes, Dr. Cynthia D'Costa, promotor of this project is a great one. Any teacher can learn a lot from her! I have as a personal task, visit this page at least twice a week to explore it in its entirely. It will be a pleasure! Thanks Dr. Cynthia!
- Another interesting project is the one propose by Mary Di Mónaco: USING WEB 2.0 TOOLS TO ENHANCE EFL TEACHING PRACTICE. I'm working as a EFL teacher in a Mexican private junior high school and I love the idea. I also like the way Mary wants to start her coworkers to get interested in the wiki concept. That's something that I'd love to do with my school teachers! Great idea Mary! Álvaro --Zapoteco 22:44, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
