The Cape Town Open Education Declaration grew out of a September 2007 meeting "to accelerate efforts to promote open resources, technology and teaching practices in education." [1]
Many WikiEducators celebrated the launch of the OER Foundation on Software Freedom Day, 17 September 2009, by signing the Declaration.
