Seasons Greetings

Hi, Thanks for updating my status to wikibuddy. It has motivated me further to tread the pathway of OER. I am from India and it is festive time here. This cetification was a gift of this festive season for me. Do you visit India? In case you come , you should plan to some days at Bhopal, the place I hail from. Convey my regards to everyone at home and wishing you a great and meaningful life. Ravi Limaye --Ravi limaye 18:02, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

Ravi limaye (talk)07:02, 26 October 2011

You are welcome Ravi. I have not traveled to India before but hope to someday. Best of the season to you.

Certification

Thank you Sir, for giving me the certification for Apprientice level 2. I wish to reach higher scales and be useful to society with this. Yesterday, I ran an exhibition showing the dangers of being addicted to alcohol, nicotine or drugs. We had a fantastic response and parents want my team and myself to conduct these in individual schools and colleges..Still munching on it. Once again "Thank you Sir"" --NIMS Mrs. Nirmala Parameswaran) 20:18, 22 October 2011 (UTC).

Rob- i have really enjoyed the course. However, i am trying to make a study guide to support by project as per the contract and not only that i want people( my teachers) to start using it.For the better part of Sunday i having being re- visiting the tutorials so to fix in some navigation template- i have put some 4 hours and i don't seem to get it. I intend to continue putting in some input.
I am requesting for your help, to fix the same. Though i am still trying it in the office -though the boss is not very amused( very addictive). Over to you

Thanks

Norbert

Nboruett (talk)21:59, 7 December 2009

Hi Norbert,

You are doing great, Navigation templates are not easy! I have had a play with Template:Enhancing_e_learning_nav. I changed the title link to a shorter page name called study guide. You don't have to keep the name, I just thought it would be easier to demonstrate how to do it using a shorter name. I tried to show a couple of different ways to create the links for navigating between pages. One with the Unit # as the description and one with the subpage name as a description. Once you know which way you prefer, let me know and I can convert them for you if you want.

Kruhly (talk)11:22, 9 December 2009

Some progress

Rob

After a reading the text and interacting with it i have manage the template issue. Now, let me do the office work before i get fired, i will continue in the evening- in the event that i get stuck i will let you know. Otherwise for the small step i have made i feel on top of the world

Redcamarocruiser (talk)03:53, 1 December 2009

Hi Mary,

Currently you can embed uploaded .swfs only. Please see the beginnings of a Flash tutorial.

Adding your youtube vidoe to Kaltura may be the way to go as I have seen it in an RSS feed of a blip.tv video on Leigh Blackall's page. For other examples of RSS see Advanced_Users. You know about Kaltura already but may find the following tutorial useful.

There has been lots of discussion on third party media in Wikieducator. We are currently working on other methods for embedding third party media and will hopefully have a test case shortly.

Hope this helps.

Kruhly (talk)21:29, 1 December 2009

Your advice helps a lot, as always. I will read the tutorials. I copied the code from day 5's flash tutorial to see if it would display my flash movie. It worked, but I want to know whether we can use the code or it if it proprietary (protected).

I am really glad that I was able to attain all of my goals with your help.

Thanks so much!

Redcamarocruiser (talk)06:12, 4 December 2009

Hi

Just to make sure I'm on the correct page. You are talking about:

<flash>file=New_page.swf|width=800|height=600|quality=best</flash>

and you have substituted your flash file for New_page.swf. If this is correct, then no worries. This a flash extension that is invoked with <flash> </flash>. There is also an extension for playing .mp3s that have been uploaded to Wikieducator. See the beginings of an Audio tutorial.

How do I display the current time in Australia?

Hi Rob,

On my profile page I want to show the time in UTC and the time in Australia (currently Australian Eastern Daylight Saving Time, but at other times this would be Australian Eastern Standard Time). I have got the UTC bit, but when I put local time it comes up only and hour away from UTC?

Many thanks--Sandy Causer (aka Wakalena) 10:27, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Wakalena (talk)23:27, 28 November 2009

A quick guess is that the local time is "the server's local time" since the WE server is in Germany. More to come ... after a little investigation.

Kruhly (talk)07:57, 29 November 2009

Hi Sandy,

Yes local time is the WE's server time. One possible solution is to use some javascript in User:Wakalena/monobook.js ...
Kruhly (talk)21:51, 1 December 2009

Well Rob, sounds interesting - unfortunately I don't know what you are talking about :-( What I am trying to do is display the date and time from the point of view of whoever is opening up the page - or failing that the date and time in Australia (and then underneath that the UTC time). I tried getting into User:Wakalena/monobook.js and it looks like it is just starting up another page in WikiEducator - although it does tell me that after saving I may have to bypass my browser's cache.

I understand that User:Wakalena refers to my pages but what does the syntax monobook.js signify?

Ah, learning is such fun. Thanks Rob --Sandy Causer (aka Wakalena) 00:27, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

Wakalena (talk)13:27, 3 December 2009

Hi Sandy,

This could be a good thing as it may save you heaps of time trying to figure it out. So the short answer is there is no easy way to do what you are asking.

If you would like to know more about the file named monobook.js. Let me know.

Info Boxes

HI!

I hope this finds you well. Thanks for the class last night it was very interesting!

I am building my Wiki myCEeducator and wanted to include the same info as on my user page on WikiEducator including the infobox. I would also like to include the WikiEducator apprentice boxes and links back to WikiEducator. I have managed to get part way there, but feel stuck at this point. I am wondering if you could help me from here?

My user page Userpage

Thanks for any help you can provide!

Ambrily73 (talk)13:47, 1 December 2009

Hi,

Thanks for the compliments. I have edited the userbox on your cooperative education wiki so that it is an external link and takes an argument. I would suggest uploading the certificate image to your wiki with an note that it came from Wikieducator and is a CC-BY-SA image.

Will need to think about the category. Maybe create the category on your wiki then in the description page link back to the wikieducator cateogory of the same name.

Nice work by the way!

Kruhly (talk)21:46, 1 December 2009

Thanks for the edit! I am enjoying the process :)

Thanks Rob for certifying me as an wiki apprentice level 2. I have added the link to Australia as you suggested and was very impressed as it was so easy. I have enjoyed participating in this course as I can put in as little or as much time as I have available each time I connect. This is extremely valuable to me with my present workload. I am sorry I was unable to make the live session but once again - thank you - I note it has been recorded so I can listen to it later. Thanks again,
