- Well, the motivation for me is to try to stay one step ahead of my surging techno students. What I like about this sort of innovation is that I can put the basic (read, very basic) knowledge into their more than capable hands and then "sit back" and watch them make it fly. Colin James
- It's the second time I'm doing this course and I still feel very nervous when I edit a page. I do hope I'm able to overcome this feeling, and be more confident at the end of the course.

- Does anybody know how to write the pipe | in a Spanish keyboard? Thanks --Gabriela 17:35, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- It depends on the model Gaby, in my case it is right below the "Esc" key. While you find the key in your specific keyboard, please do this: while the "Alt" key is depressed, type the sequence of numbers 124, release the Alt key, and the pipe will appear --Gladys Gahona 18:57, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot Gladys! Somebody on FB helped me see it together with the 1 key, I had been looking for it for months and had never seen it! alt + 124 also works. Thanks a lot!--Gabriela 19:45, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

- Well I thought I just published an intelligent coment on this page but it seems that I "lost" it, so let´s try again. I had a (maybe stupid) question: can my sandbox of my userpage be accessed by other participants? In the Wikilogic this should be the case but if so, how do I access other pages? --Hatara 19:25, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
- The answer is yes Hatara, everybody can see your sanbox and provide assistance on your learning process. Wikis are by definition collaborative editing enviroments. In order to access other's pages, just click in their signatures. You will find more links as you progress in the workshop. --Gladys Gahona 19:52, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, In my user page under my profile I've added some stuff, gmail and Skype accounts. It seems that pressing <Enter>is not enough, I have to press the line break toolbar button to get to the other line (when in edit mode, pressing enter is going to the next line, but when I save changes and look at the page everything is on the same line. It appears there's no need for line break here. Am I doing something wrong? --Katerina Spyropoulou 14:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes Katerina, you may also add as much <br /> as you need. Try several <enter>... see what happens... discovering is funny =) --Gladys Gahona 15:19, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I've created a page, namely http://www.wikieducator.org/ITforJHS/, and then thought it'd better be under my userpage, so /icreated just another, http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Spyropk/ITforJHS/. How can I get rid of the first, http://www.wikieducator.org/ITforJHS/ ? --Katerina Spyropoulou 17:35, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Go to http://www.wikieducator.org/ITforJHS/, since you are the only editor so far, remove al content, then add following code: {{delete}}. Save page, this template adds a "deletion requested" red banner and Category:Deletion Requested. Let administrators do the rest of the job. --Gladys Gahona 18:49, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- That means that only the persons with administrative access have the right to do it? If some1 wants f.e. to delete a message that was sent -by mistake - twice, how do you do it? --Katerina Spyropoulou 16:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes Katerina. Where exactly is the message you want to remove? --Gladys Gahona 17:31, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Well, actually it was me. I was using Katerina’s account by mistake. I had problems saving with firefox too. I sent a message to Elenargy twice. It’ s not a really problem. If administrator is the only one who can delete pages, messages and so on, is that flexible in real life when creating pages, lesson…?--tk 19:26, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm using Firefox to access my user page. Whenever I make a change and press, it's like taking for ages to get a respond and when there is finally one, it's somthing like "Bad
responserequest" and I have to go back using the browser's back button, press "Cancel" in the "Edit" page and everything is there saved and all. I get no such thing with IE7. Is it a bug with Firefox, or is there something I must configure? --Katerina Spyropoulou 14:44, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Katerina, I am a Firefox user as well. Have you upgraded to version 3.0.11? Sometimes I experience some issues on firefox, however upgrades generally solve the problems. Please also check the installed components, some of them give some problems. Try deleting cookies (tools - clean private data) --Gladys Gahona 16:20, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, I'm still not very sure whether all the pages you create need to be under your user page. Thanks for your support. --Pastora Martínez Castilla
- Only personal pages should be alocated under the User Page. Same happens when developing a multi-page resource, and you beleive is should be done so. This structure prevents specific pages to be taken as generic pages --Gladys Gahona 15:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- I need some help in creating subpages, and also how to upload the images. Thanks Archana
- Do you have any instant messaging service? We can syncronously provide assistance --Gladys Gahona 15:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- One I am still a little confused about the internal links when and why they can be used. I am adding this one in the hope that I am correct. [Cathy's page]. The external links are clearer Cathy James-Springer
- Think about an internal link as linking to another page in the wiki which already exists. Internal links use two square brackers [[ ....]]. What I do when linking to another page in the wiki, is
- to open the target page in a new window (this helps to get the exact syntax which is case sensitive)
- the copy all the text from the url which appears after the http://wikieducator.org/ page.
- therefore in your example, to link to your userpage you would use this sytax [[User:Cattys291|Cathy's page]] - not the pipe for an internal link is "|" --Wayne Mackintosh 20:04, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Think about an internal link as linking to another page in the wiki which already exists. Internal links use two square brackers [[ ....]]. What I do when linking to another page in the wiki, is
- Probably, I need more extended information about uploading and formatting images. Thank you for your job.
- Wiki code is [[Image:Core.png|40px]], this image has been resized to 40 px. The original size is 128x128 px. The code contains an internal link to the image's page (image has been uploaded to Wikieducator server), and the horizontal size set to 40px. Click on the image and take a look at the image page.
- Wiki code is [[Image:Core.png|40px|left]], this image has been resized to 40px. The original size is 128x128. The code contains a link to the image's page inside Wikieducator, the horizontal size set to 40px and a "floating to the left" instruction. It is exactly the same source image but with additional formatting. Noticed the meaning on "floating to the left"?. Here is a clue: Compare pharagraphs.

- I have the same question about uploading pictures....and on my german keyboard I can not find the pipe....Alt and 124 does not seem to work here...---Hatara

- Hi,
qst#1 How do you quickly access other people user pages? qst#2 If you create a page everytime you type the url of a non-existing page on the browser, aren't you bound to end up with tons of unwanted pages by the end of this workshop? I think I may have created one or two by mistake. How do I, or you, or I don't know who, get rid of those? (Or is it just close to midnight here and I am talking rubbish?) --Katerina Spyropoulou 20:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- I am trying to add an open office document to my sandbox and am having a bit of trouble. Curious, it an image? Media? Or something else?--Patrina Huff 22:44, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Patrina, images can't be copy/pasted, they can only be "linked" --Gladys Gahona 23:37, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Gladys, I know that images can't be pasted. I am attempting to link an Open Office document using the following syntax.Media:Education_Projects.otd|Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator and Image:Education_Projects.otd|Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator. Wondering if I should use a different syntax to add an .otd file? --Patrina Huff 09:51, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hi Patrina, the following file extensions are enabled (white listed) on WE: png, gif, jpg, jpeg, elp, swf, flv, pdf, odt, mp3, svg, odt, odp, ods. Just checking-- Are you refering to OO .odt or .otd format? In my case, when I use OO draw I export to png or better still create drawings using Inkscape so we have scalable vector graphics versions of images for open editing and resizing without loosing any image quality :-). --Wayne Mackintosh 10:09, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- 1. [[Media:Education Projects.odt|Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator]] returns: Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator
- 2. [[Image:Education Projects.odt|Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator]] returns: Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator
- 3. [http://www.wikieducator.org/images/0/0d/Education_Projects.odt Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator] returns Education Projects to Construct in Wikieducator
- 4. http://www.wikieducator.org/images/0/0d/Education_Projects.odt returns http://www.wikieducator.org/images/0/0d/Education_Projects.odt
- In cases 3 and 4 you have to get the URL for the file. Just go to the image page: File:Education Projects.odt, right click on link "Education_Projects.odt", copy the file path to the clipboard, then paste in your text. --Gladys Gahona 15:28, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi Angela, sometimes the file is corrupted. Please try another jpg file. Remember files must be less than 2mb. --Gladys Gahona 15:32, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hello,
- I'd like to have access to the files I uploaded , I may like to delete some of them .Can I ?
- Is it possible to embed a youtube video in a wikieducator page ? Thank you --Mbarek 16:56, 17 June 2009 (UTC)
- 1. Hi Mbarek, Click on "my contributions" (Top Right Corner of Page), scroll down the list to find the pdf file and two images you uploaded. Click on the file link, turn to editing mode then write this template code {{delete}}. One administrator will delete the image or the file. Warm wishes --Gladys Gahona 06:35, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hello, you may need to short the long URLs
I had some trouble embedding an external link into my Tell Us a Story Template. It seems that the template has some problems reading URLs that are too long. So, first go to http://tinyurl.com/ and shorten the long URLs and than create the external link. See my page and the second Tell us a story (I am one of the 22,657 fans). All credits go to Gladys --vukasinbvasic 17:48, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

- Hi, I was wondering about how we can control users from altering our page. For instance, if we use a wiki in the classroom, how can we control whether students may have altered the content to their benefit? I assume everything appears in the 'history' tab? User:Angela
- I have used wikis with my students and although they made some mistakes unintentionally, they were really worried about it, e-mailed me immediately to let me know what had happened and I could revert it easily. I am now convinced that, as they know you can see all the changes made to a page, they won't risk vandalising.--Vicky Saumell 14:08, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

- Wich are the code words that I may use in a template? Is a list in any place? --mhsaenzs 16:46, 17 June 2009 (UTC)

Hi, I first misplaced the question. I created a template, http://www.wikieducator.org/Template:ITforJHS_nav. How can I make the frame bigger, so it can take up the whole page length and accomodate all the Greek titles? Why is it that the first link goes where it should go, http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Spyropk/ITforJHS, exactly like I thought it would when writing the line, and when I click the other three they link to pages not yet written (I have three pages under http://www.wikieducator.org/User:Spyropk/ITforJHS, and thought when I was writing the template that I was making links to there)? Pheew, I sure hope that's clear enough. Thanks a lot--Katerina Spyropoulou 17:22, 18 June 2009 (UTC)
- Hello Katerina, please go to the template page. I added a second template, check out what I made, pay attention on the differences, please remove the undesired code. Thanks --Gladys Gahona 18:28, 18 June 2009 (UTC)

- I found the templates tutorial fascinating and worth exploring in detail. I have managed to do the basic but will explore them in detail later.--Vicky Saumell 19:12, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
