Activities - Session 1 - purpose and content of a presentational ePortfolio

Activity

Session 1 - Activity 1 [10 Mins] Presentation: introduction: Summary of work covered in Modules 1 and 2; Module objectives (LINK to OBJECTIVES) module structure (LINK to STRUCTURE SOMEHOW) the rationale, the delivery style of Sub Module 3 end of Module presentation opportunity; revisit the ePortfolio process highlight the role of the presentational ePortfolio remind participants of the purpose of the ePortfolio and why they, and the learners are developing them;

Session 1 - Activity 2 [10 min] discussion: participants share their teaching/training backgrounds identfing experiences and range of learners that they have worked with; Mind Spill: possible reasons and applications for a presentational ePortfolio delegate ideas recorded on flip chart/screen/white board Tutor identifies interview or presentational situations

Session 1 - Activity 3 [20 mins] Group work: participants alocated to groups (2 or 3 in each group) and issued with copy of the interview or presentational situations identified in Activity 2; each group allocated a different interview or presentational situation from those identified in Activity 2; groups provided with Session 1 - Activity 3 - Scenario A (University Entrance) OR Session 1 - Activity 3 - Scenario B (End of Year Review) OR Session 1 - Activity 3 - Scenario C (Tutor Review) OR Session 1 - Activity 3 - Scenario D (Employment Interview) OR Session 1 - Activity 3 - Scenario E (Peer Review) The Scenarios describe the digital artefacts that are available to the learner; groups identify appropriate evidence for inclusion in a presentational ePortfolio for the interview or presentational situation described in the allocated Scenario; group feedback: the digital artefacts selected why it was appropriate contribution from all participants missing evidence inappropriate format Summary: what is/is not appropriate for each of the interview or presentational situation? style/layout options matched to interview or presentational situations? Session 1 activity 3 KTU - We would like to present here several presentational situations that are relevant in our case. The descriptions will be prepared in a few days

Session 1 - Activity 4 [20 mins] Discussion: using an ePortfolio to evidence competence what are competencies- relate back to earlier Modules work through typical 'competency based' questions, identify evidence that would prove that the learner had developed specific competencies how can an ePortfolio evidence competencies?

Session 1 - Activity 5 [10 mins] Discussion: how might the selection process help the learner prepare for the meeting/interview? Discussion: how might using an ePortfolio in an interview help the student/trainee?

Session 1 - Activity 6 [10 mins + workshop time] Introduce/revisit end of Module presentation - what participants will need to do Assignment: work on end of Module presentation Session 1 activity 4 KTU is able to prepare the following: The presentation of the sample of the ePortfolio content: structure of the information about student himself/herself, typical lesson of the subject.

Session 2 - Activity 1 Planning and preparation prevents poor performance; Presentation: an introduction to a range of design tools that might help the learner to design and compile a presentational ePortfolio discussion: - importance of being clear about purpose of an interview or presentational situation, including the competencies to be evidenced, audience and style of the interview or presentational situation discussion: the importance of knowing what evidence you already have in your ePortfolio - possible need to capture new evidence specifically for the interview or presentational situation discussion: relationship between the purpose of an interview or presentational situation and the content and style of a presentational ePortfolio; discussion: content and style of a presentational ePortfolio must be appropriate for the audience; LINK to Powerpoint/Podcast

Session 2 - Activity 2 checking procedures: be clear about the purpose of the interview or presentational situation be clear about the competencies that you will be expected to evidence does the presentational ePortfolio contain all of the evidence required by theinterview or presentational situation is evidence that has been selected appropriate for purpose? does the presentational ePortfolio use appropriate evidence that demonstrates the required competencies is the format of the evidence appropriate for the competencies being presented (inc multimedia evidence);

Session 2 - Activity 3 role play 1: - participants are allocated a pre-designed presentational ePortfolio appropriate for a particular interview or presentational situation: Other participants are allocated roles as interviewer/peers, scripts provided for interviewers/peers;[40 mins] group feedback: what did it feel like to deliver the presentation? how should an interview/meeting be structured? was the evidence in the ePortfolios sufficient/appropriate? was the evidence appropriate for the audience? discussion: how might an ePortfolio support the learner as they prepare for an interview or presentational situation;

Session 2 - Activity 4 discussion: strategies that can be used to support learners as they select appropriate digital artifacts for a presentational ePortfolio; the role of the Tutor or Teacher in the preparation process; investigation: factors that might effect student motivation and encourage students to take responsibility for the production of a presentational ePortfolio;

Session 2 - Activity 5 introduction: end of this session you will have designed a presentational ePortfolio for your end of Module presentation - look at interview requirements what are the comptencies that I will need to evidence in my end of Module presentation? Introduction to the end of Module presentation, purpose, format, identification of the competencies that would need to be evidenced; Introduction to competency based interview questions practical: delegates select appropriate evidence, design and construct a presentational ePortfolio;

Session 3 - Activity 1 End of Module Interview: participants deliver their presentational ePortfolio (prepared in previous sessions) to their Tutor in an interview or presentational situation; peer obsevation by negotiation and agreement

Session 4 - Activity 2 discussion: the challenges and issues what the learners might find difficult? what support might they need? Discussion: identify what a range of different students might find challenging what they might find motivating what strategies might help groupwork: prepare a checklist to help students preparing for an interview or presentational situation

Activity 2 : Action Plan participants construct an action plan that focuses on what they need to do to prepare for their next interview or presentational situation and what they need to do to prepare their students to prepare for interview or presentational situations;

Activity 3 : Discussion: participants explore the role that student self-reflection might play in the interview or presentational situation process and consider strategies that might be used to encourage students to select and present evidence of self review and reflection;
