Hi Godfrey,
Thanks for your words of encouragement over on the Wiki reflections page!.
As you bring your own students to WE, I find that having your guidelines actually on the wiki is more useful than the paper handouts I had used before this. Perhaps the most valuable lesson I picked up from Leigh Blackwell's work is the use of pre-loaded pages. My students go here: Contributors_page and type a new page name in a box. Once they hit enter, the new page that is created contains the guidelines I would like them to follow. They delete my text as they create their own. My guidelines are drawn from a template page: Template:BioElSchool_page_maker that I change as the need arises.
I think bringing young teachers here is very valuable. The average age of WE participants is older than I would ever have guessed.
Good luck with your future work, I can see already that you are making valuable contributions Dmccabe 04:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Declan, Thanks very much for your message. Your "Preloaded Pages" have started giving me a lot of ideas. Now I have some notion about organizing my students(trainee teachers) to collaborate to develop Activities, Examples, Exerceises, Handouts etc around "Pre-Designed" instructional material.
When Randy said about involving students to collaborate in WE, I didn't quite understand it clearly. I couldn't contribute anything worthwhile to his
discussion Thread.
Thanks to both of you! Now I am getting a lot of ideas.
Declan;
- I want to try your Instant wiki maker and see how it works. But if I create unnecessary pages, will you be able to delete them?
- Can I use your Contributors page to design a template for my students?
Thanks

Hey there Godfrey, I have been following your progress during the last few days and I admire your user page and sandbox - you are deserving of your Wiki Apprentice Level 1. Well done! If you have a moment I would value your comments on my user page over at: http://wikieducator.org/User:CoachCarole Carole
Hi Carole, Thanks very much for your kind invitation to have a look at your User page. Oh! You have got a decoration on your user page! Congratulations! Wow! Your pages are pretty neat. Sandbox is very well organised. What a lot of links! I think I'll have to spend few hours exploring those differnt intersting pages. I am very keen about eLearning. Now I know that you are a very resourceful person. I will be troubling you constantly as soon as I finish this workshop. Hope you won't mind. I am very keen to learn about eLearning.
I'll be visiting your resourceful pages pages very often.
Looking forward to be in touch with you more often.
Cheers!

Hi Godfrey, I am always happy to listen to you. (that is my motto on Skype so if you would like to communicate via Skype, please my Skype name to your contacts; cmcculloch8337 Caroloe
Thanks Carole, I had a Skype account sometime back and gave up using skype since most of my friends were using Yahoo messenger. I had few contacts on Skype. I will reinstall Skype and start using it again. Sure! I'll add your contact there. I need to go back and have a good look at the Sites connected to your WE user page. There were a lot of interesting things. The problem I have now is that I'm unable to cope with the extra duties taken on my shoulder apart from my usual workload. very soon I'll settle down. Then I'll be coming back to you more often to get your assistance regarding elearning.
Wish you good luck! Keep in touch.
Godfrey
I enjoyed thoroughly your user page and your many accomplishments in the education field (not to mention the picture of your beautiful homeland). It is reassuring that others more experienced than myself in elearning and technology are in these tutorials also. Keep up the good work!
Aaron
Hi Godfrey,
I saw your note to Declan informing him about using his template ideas --- You are setting an example of being a wiki neighbor in our community -- i.e. honouring and recognising the work of others.
This is the power of a free content license -- we can reuse and adapt templates content etc without first obtaining permission from the original author.
Godfrey -- I can see that you're going to become a leader in our community. Glad to have you on board!
Cheers Wayne
Godfrey and Wayne,
Glad to see that my own approach to using borrowed code is encouraged. The code Godfrey borrowed from me was in turn partly borrowed from Dennis, and partly from my old wikia site where a user there set it up for me. So, continue to spread the wealth and we all learn! What I particularly like is that you have modified the code yet again; thus we don't all have a uniform look that would quickly become a tired look. Cheers Dmccabe 03:21, 8 June 2008 (UTC)
Dear Godfrey,
I have reverted your edit on Template:IDeviceFollowingASection. The template is used in the documentation of all the pedagogical templates to describe how to improve the formatting when the pedagogical template follows a section. Can you explain why you wanted to remove the content so we can find a mutually beneficial solution.
Hi Wayne, Are you refering to the pages in the following link? http://wikieducator.org/Topic_1:_Indices_and_Logarithms.
These are not mine. I left a message on one page asking the author to contact me. I can help editing the content in these pages.
Thanks
Godfrey
Hi Godfrey -
Wow your Navigation template is looking pretty smart -- you're a fast learning.
A quick tip from my own experiences in WikiEducator -- its best not to number lessons or tutorials. I made this mistake with the Newbie tutorials. It limits reuse and reconfiguration for different contexts. If you insert a lesson at a later stage -- it means you've got to renumber everything again. Sometimes you may want to use one lesson in another subject area -- and the lesson may be out of sequence.
So best not to use numbers in the lesson names or page titles. This could save you hours later down the track <smile>.
Cheers Wayne
Wow Godfrey --- your progress on WE is amazing! I see that you've figured out templates as well, borrowing ideas from Declan. Fantastic.
I just wanted to point you to two generic templates we have in WE for project navigation and content pages.
You'll find information here about them:
They're relatively new in the Wiki, and are easier to use. Also we're trying to encourage folk to use these templates to promote a consistent look and feel.
Take a look -- perhaps you'd like to replace your navigation templates with one of the new ones :-).
Cheers Wayne
Thanks Godfrey,
Appreciate the note -- Fortunately I do get to sleep thanks to many WE helpers like yourselves all over the world. You and John will make an excellent team in building capability in the Seychelles.
Remember that there is a little funding to present two f-t-f workshops in the Seychelles to get things started.
I'm pretty sure that you and John will get a strong national hub going.
Cheers Wayne
Hi Godfrey,
Will your students be using WikiEd at all, as a place to do their work? There is a growing cluster here of teachers who are interested in doing just that!
Here's the URL of the discussion thread on WikiEducator's main group: http://groups.google.com/group/wikieducator/browse_thread/thread/65313cf881d4ddfc?hl=en
Please join the discussion if you're interested ~ you'd be quite a leader if you were!

Hi Randy, Thanks very much for your message and for the link you sent me to join the discussion thread on WikiEducator's main group. I am a nivice to WikiEducator. I just joined the workshop for L4C. Yes you are correct!. I must allow my students to use WE to place their work. So far they were using a group account I created on Yahoo. But WE has a lot of facilities and scope.
Keep in touch!
Cheers! Godfrey
