Preloaded pages
Hi Godfrey,
Thanks for your words of encouragement over on the Wiki reflections page!.
As you bring your own students to WE, I find that having your guidelines actually on the wiki is more useful than the paper handouts I had used before this. Perhaps the most valuable lesson I picked up from Leigh Blackwell's work is the use of pre-loaded pages. My students go here: Contributors_page and type a new page name in a box. Once they hit enter, the new page that is created contains the guidelines I would like them to follow. They delete my text as they create their own. My guidelines are drawn from a template page: Template:BioElSchool_page_maker that I change as the need arises.
I think bringing young teachers here is very valuable. The average age of WE participants is older than I would ever have guessed.
Good luck with your future work, I can see already that you are making valuable contributions Dmccabe 04:11, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi Declan, Thanks very much for your message. Your "Preloaded Pages" have started giving me a lot of ideas. Now I have some notion about organizing my students(trainee teachers) to collaborate to develop Activities, Examples, Exerceises, Handouts etc around "Pre-Designed" instructional material.
When Randy said about involving students to collaborate in WE, I didn't quite understand it clearly. I couldn't contribute anything worthwhile to his
discussion Thread.
Thanks to both of you! Now I am getting a lot of ideas.
Declan;
- I want to try your Instant wiki maker and see how it works. But if I create unnecessary pages, will you be able to delete them?
- Can I use your Contributors page to design a template for my students?
Thanks
