Pre-Work

  1. Create an account on WikiEducator if you don't already have one by going through Tutorial 2. In addition, the facilitators will create an account for you on eL4C33 Moodle course management system (CMS) platform with the same username you have on WikiEducator but with the password changeme . Please log into your account on the eL4C33 Moodle platform, change your password, and update your profile. You will be receiving daily instructions from the eL4C33 Moodle platform.
  2. Check to see if your name is listed on the eL4C33 participants list, if not you can register here.
  3. Read the report on the world's largest wiki training initiative in education Learning4Content - The first 18 monthsPDF down.png (PDF 1.7 MB)
  4. Please fill in, and sign the Learning 4 Content Learning Contract which is a working agreement between each L4C workshop participant and the WikiEducator community. The L4C Learning Contract defines your learning goals and how they will be accomplished. It is also an essential building block in establishing your reputation among the community of WikiEducators in learning and building a base of wiki skills and following through on your commitment to contributing free content to the community. You can download the L4C Lerning Contract in Open Office format Learning4Content Learning Contract or in pdf format Learning4Content Learning Contract . You may also download the learning contract in a plain text format.
  5. Email the signed contract to eL4C33
  6. Watch an introductory video on how to follow the template for EL4C33 - part 1 and - part 2

Using your User Page

  • If necessary, copy the Profile headings (you can always edit or add more information later) if they are missing on your userpage.
  • Add content on each heading.

1. Discuss Discussions page the different types of images and media allowed in Wikieducator and the importance of licensing artwork as well as wiki ethics.
2. Add feedback and questions at Feedback page.

Communication and Interaction


Activities

1. Leave a personal message on the User page of at least three different participants who have listed their user pages. To do this:
  • go to the respective user page by clicking on a blue coloured link.
  • click on the "Discussion" tab of the user page concerned (which you find at the top of the page). Add a positive comment on something you have seen on the member's user page, and if you have any ideas on how to improve the user page, offer some friendly advice.
2. If you receive a message from one of the other participants, send a reply by clicking on their user name which is displayed in the automatic signature below the message. Try and comment on something positive you have seen on their user page, and if you have any ideas on how to improve the user page offer some friendly advice.
3. In addition, you may wish to be a good wikineighbour and welcome the newest members.
4. Test the feature of adding a discussion item which relates to a content page on the wiki. Now find out another content page of interest on WikiEducator, go to its Discussion page and either start a new discussion or go through the on going discussions, and add your comments by clicking the Reply link.
