My profile
Professional background
The first 7 years of my professional training and workwere in nursing, specifically midwifery. Then in 1976 I moved into the fascinating world of linguistics and literacy where I've been ever since.
Twenty one years were spent in the Philippinesinvolved in opening up the world for the remote, disadvantaged people who, because of language, were unable to access education provided in languages they neither spoke or understood:
- developing mother tongue literacy instructional materials
- developing and coordinating a local adult literacy program
- training local literacy tutors for that and other local literacy programs, and
- providing consultant help to other mother tongue literacy specialists throughout the north of the Philippines.
Since 2003I have been working as a full time lecturer and trainer in the field of literacy at EQUIP Training,'located in Melbourne, Australia.
