Objectives: Day 5 - New pages and links

Today we will:

  • Provide an overview of the structure of a wiki;
  • Create internal and external links;
  • Demonstrate how to create a new page;
  • Explain the difference between red and blue internal page links;
  • Explain piped links.

Hi WikiEducators!

You're making great progress! It is a pleasure watching your pages develop. You are acquiring the basic skills to develop Open Educational Resources (OERs) in WikiEducator.

By now, we hope you have learned that if you are confused or frustrated , you can always ask someone in the community for help. You can do this by emailing one of your colleagues, the facilitators, or posting on the Wiki Questions & Support page. Please make sure that your user pages are full of information and that completing the tutorials means using the skills you learned. Practice makes perfect so please make sure all the headings on your use page are filled in to the best of your ability. We are looking for lots of appropriate images and colorful font on your pages.

Today you will learn about creating new pages and links (internal and external). This is the way we also create new pages in the wiki. A new page is an internal link to a page which does not exist yet <smile>. Not to worry -- you'll see how this works!

Instructions

  1. Work through Tutorial 5 on New pages and Links
  2. Be sure to check out the requirements for community certification under our WikiMaster typology. You're on track to achieving the status of Wikibuddy in our community if you add to others' pages!
  3. If you haven't done yet, tell us about the content resource you are planning to develop under your learning contract by adding to Wiki Discussions page My Learning Contract Project. Looking forward to sharing ideas for content development!

We would like to invite you to fill in your personal info boxes located at the top of each of your user pages. In addition, you may wish to learn how you can get rewarded for your hard labor.   WikiEducator will acknowledge your achievements by adding a certification to the box.

We have almost covered all the skills you are going to need to join our international team of content developers in WikiEducator. All that's really left to do next week, is to learn how to insert images and a few smart ideas on structuring content in the wiki. With the communication tips you'll be covering -- you are on your way to becoming a Wikibuddy!
