National and Transnational Curriculum Framework for WE (14)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Hi Rob Kruhlak,

Leigh Blackall working with Otago Polytechnic in Educational Development has set up a page for discussions on WE framework of National and Transnational curriculum in the WikiEducator gorup on Google Groups. The discussions are very much interesing and constructive. All WE community members are warm welcome to make it a permanent venue for discussions on Curricula. The intermediate outputs on the discussions will be added/ linked to the Curriculum Project Node ( http://www.wikieducator.org/Curriculum_INDEX ) on WE

Thank you very much for the advice you have given me.
How do you make a duplicate of such a template?
Is it OK if I go to Edit Mode and copy the content and paste it in another page eg: my sandbox? This is what I do now, when I want to study the code of any interesting page or a template.

I looked at the templates you are designing; AnswerBox. Probably you will be able to modify these tables to include "Feedback" property in the cells of the second column. Then we can use that template as an iDevice for "Self Assessment"

Thanks

Godfrey

Hi Godfrey,

Yes, I just cut and paste the content into another page. If it is template content then I usually cut and paste it into a new template (something like Template:<myTestTemplateName>). I usually forget but it is a good idea to put a comment in the summary text field to say where it came from. As you mentioned, other content is easily to cut and paste into your sandbox.

Good idea for the AnswerBox template. There is a Template:Self Assessment that has a slightly different method for providing feedback.

Cheers Rob

Hi Krushly, I was not aware that I had changed the above iDevice. I was exploring templates of different iDevices to find out how they were designed. I tried to customise "Reflection2" template to see whether it is possible to design an idevice similar to "Activities" template in order to include a feedback. When I could not succeed, I gave up.

I am very happy that you have noticed it and reverted it. How ever, I am very sorry if I have created any problem to our WE team and the community. Thank you very much for reverting it.

Perhaps, you must be in a good position to help me.

I would like to have an iDevice for "Activities" similar to "Reflection2". It should be in a table format with two columns. Left column to have a short question and the right column to have the answer hidden under a 'button' with a label similar to "Check" or some thing suitable. Do you think you will be able to design one. I feel that it will be a useful pedagogical templte. I think all our colleagues will like it.

Thanks again.

Godfrey

Hi Godfrey,

As a quick fix, you could try:

{{Reflection2|Title=My Activity|Content=my content goes here|Feedback=my feedback goes here}}

My Activity

I will think about how to make a two column version and get back to you.

Rob

Hi Kruhly, I like to see the changes I have made to IDeviceFollowingASection. I am going to see the "History" of that page. How ever, please go back and check that I have made no mistakes there again. Thanks for your time and for your cooperation to enable me to get some Wiki experience. Godfrey

Handling links print v. WE (2)

There have been no changes to this discussion for at least 14 days. If it is concluded, you may want to write a summary.

Wayne suggested I talk with you about handling links. I'm working on the OER Handbook project and we want to do a print version by September. I was wondering what you thought was the best way to display links on WE with eventual transfer to print in mind.

Rob -- One possibility is to implement a footnote template.

In the main body of the text a superscript number is inserted which links to a footnote list at the bottom of the page containing the full url -- which will print as text.

I see this as an interim solution -- because I'm hoping that the pediapress folk will build a feature to handle the printing of full urls as footnotes in the case of links during the parsing process. However, I don't know when this will be implemented and the OER handbook team need a solution by 30 June.

This will entail a little extra work to insert the footnotes -- but I think it could work. Perhaps there's a smart hack using the print specific version of a template -- but am not sure whether we can transclude for print output.

Hi Sgurell,

You pose a very interesting question. I have been thinking about it for the past couple of days and to be honest need some more time so I can give you an answer. I plan to do some more research and get back to you by early next week. I hope that will not be too late.

No, that will be just fine. Thank you for helping me think about this problem.
