Rob, thanks for the note on the new iDevice template. I've added it here: All_iDevices with some instructions. brent 09:07, 21 February 2007 (CET)

Quiz Template

Rob, there's a really cool quiz template on Wikiversity (http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/Template:ABCD) that i've tried to get going here (see: Template:ABCD but there's something wrong with some of the other templates that it relies on. Perhaps we could ask User:Eloquence to take a look. Come visit us on IRC @ #wikieducator some time. Perhaps we can figure it out. brent 09:32, 21 February 2007 (CET)

Rob: you mention that the ABCD templates are working in WikiEducator now? Examples? the template still looks broken to me. brent 19:47, 23 February 2007 (CET)

Rob, no i don't have access to the server or settings. Try User:Eloquence. I've never been able to get the ABCD template to work. Perhaps he can shed some light on that one as well. brent 22:00, 25 February 2007 (CET)

Rob, i don't think it's actually closing the DIVs it just rendering the closing ones as text rather than html. brent 08:48, 27 February 2007 (CET)

ABCD template

Should be working now.--Eloquence 18:50, 2 March 2007 (CET)

Wikiquiz

Rob: that looks great. Have you spoken to Eloquence about seeing if we can install on WikiEducator? brent 05:19, 7 March 2007 (CET)

Sysop

You are now a sysop and bureaucrat (bureaucrats can make sysops). You should be able to give other users sysop or bureaucrat status through Special:Userrights.--Eloquence 02:58, 12 March 2007 (CET)

Template Issues

Rob, i noticed tonight that you can't include a url in any fashion within a template that includes a ? inside it. For example i was trying to make a link to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLo4355l6QE but there it just won't allow you to wrap this inside a template. Perhaps it's time to explore this open/close method some more. brent 10:13, 14 March 2007 (CET)

Rob, so is the conclusion that you make that we need to switch from the template style we currently have to one where there is a template for the start, and a template for the end? (boxed you called it). It seems to work better than what we've got for any kind of semi-complex markup. Can we try creating an example of how one of the existing templates might work like this. I suppose you can just have a really generic end_template type thing and keep the names of the existing templates (although this would break all the existing ones unless we then went and added the end_template syntax. brent 07:02, 15 March 2007 (CET)

Thoughts about MCQ templates

Hey Rob - great work on the templates so far. Apology for the silence, catching up on my backlog of work after India.

Had a chat with Eloquence on the code for the MCQ item (the French one). His view is that the code should be re-written, and I think he's right. Shouldn't be too dificult. I'm wondering whether it wouldn't be more productive to write up a short specification for an MCQ and Multi-choice template. Take a look at eXe's functionality (eg the hint feature) so we can get a reasonable match between technologies for the future.

We can use this spec for scoping the development. Regarding the MCQ stuff - this may be a better use of your time rather than struggling to get the existing one working. What do you think?

--Mackiwg 01:08, 18 March 2007 (CET)

OK - I've just seen the latest MCQ template - yes I agree, it would be good to show this functionality - even if we don't use it long term. Concrete examples are always useful. Re icon, you could use http://www.wikieducator.org/images/c/c6/Icon_qmark.gif. Chat to you soon. --Mackiwg 01:38, 18 March 2007 (CET)

Rob, these are looking fantastic. I've still go the problem though that when I'm logged in they don't work. I haven't mucked around with my prefs yet to see what may be affecting them... have you experienced this. When I log-out they're fine. brent 09:34, 20 March 2007 (CET)

Rob, if I wanted to make a True/False style quiz for this section on the WikiEducator Tutorials -- Wikieducator_tutorial/Creating_an_Account/Summary_and_FAQs should I just make a modified version of the ABCD template or have you created a type of True/False one yet? brent 05:55, 25 March 2007 (CEST)

Rob, that's close but I kind of don't want/need the hint part of the question. Should I just make a new True/False template one? brent 09:15, 25 March 2007 (CEST)

Math markup

[math]e = \sum_{n=0}^\infty {1 \over n!} = \lim_{n \to \infty}\left(\frac{1}{0!} + \frac{1}{1!} + \frac{1}{2!} + \cdots + \frac{1}{n!}\right)[/math]

Does that answer your question? ;-) --Eloquence 03:26, 24 March 2007 (CET)

A thought about navigatioin in the science lessons

Hi Kruhly,

Was wondering - did you use the import/export page for getting the lesson from the old talo wiki into Wikieducator? You should be able to do this with your bureaucrat status.

Nav templates are looking good as well - I was wondering whether it would be better to have subsections as new pages (i.e subpages using the slash syntax) rather than having one long page using internal page targets. Like what we did with the Newbie tutorials. This would make packaging in eXe easier - because then each sub-page becomes a node in eXe.

Cheers

Technology cooperation with quiz templates

Hi Kruhly,

Very excited to stumble into this after wandering around WikiEducator for a while. Just what excites me. I've been wanting to find out about the world of quiz templates for MediaWiki for ages.

The short version is: I've programmed a big powerful cost-free quiz maker application which does things like exporting to various open formats. It does Moodle so far. I've been hunting for an output format that can be thrown into MediaWiki, so that people don't have to handcode their MediaWiki interactive thingies.

I'm happy to go with wiki-markup, although I also saw you using flash in a MediaWiki page. Is flash really allowed or is it non-PC?

I'm not on WikiEducator very often, so perhaps better to drop me a message.

New Science lesson

Extention updates now installed

Hi Kruhly,

Eloquence has updated the flash, CSS and quiz extensions as requested. Apology for the long delay on this.

The ! template

I tried to delete some useless pages, and mistakenly deletes the Template:! But soon realized my mistake and undid the deletion. Now I've added a line of doc from Wikipedia But it did look like a useless template I swear. We need to copy over quite a few generically usefully Templates from Wikipedia with docs and all.

In the mean time I hope I haven't caused too much damage. BTW wayne and I have updated most (if not all) of the iDevices with the TOC feature you came up with, and added a feedback parameter with Icon Template:Feedback

Cheers --Phsi 15:23, 13 June 2007 (CEST)
