By the end of this section you will be able to:

  • Describe the design science research methodology in an IT Context

Design science concerns the systematic development of an artifact to meet a specified purpose and there is a wide body of literature on this. See Hevner and colleagues (Hevner, March, Park, & Ram, 2004) for a starting point.

  • Create an artifact and use it in an educational setting.
  • The combination of usage logs, survey data, and interview results can be used to evaluate a design model and related software implementation.
