Thank you for your interest in online CIS courses at DeAnza. To be successful, you must be prepared to do the course work and assignments from the first day of the semester. It is difficult to catch-up once you get behind. It is also a burden on the course dynamics to have students in the class who are not participating in the full learning experience. You are welcome to take the course some time in the future when your schedule permits.

Sorry we are no longer adding students for this semester. Thank you for your interest.

Never Attended - will be dropped

Students who are not actively participating in the course - logging in, participating in discussions, completing assignments, will be DROPPED as Never Attended.

As of now, you are not meeting the minimum participation requirement.

This is an online class with no in-person meetings. You are responsible for getting logged into the course resources and participating in all the course learning activities.

If you have questions, please ask. We want you to succeed. You have to do the work to make it happen.

Let me know if you have questions. ..vt

not original

This is overly broad for the first day of the course. Most of this could be answered with a little research on your part. Do you have need for accommodations? Please provide 2-3 sentences in your own words and resubmit

These reflection activities are to be completed at the end of the module. This is an opportunity to review the course material covered after all the other activities for the module topics have been completed, you have actually participated in topic discussions and explored some of the additional resources provided by others to get a overall understanding of the topics included in this module.

2024.1.17 . We are now working on Module 2. If you haven't finished all the work for Module 1, do the Module 2 discussions and activities first to stay in sync with the rest of the class. Then complete any outstanding Module 1 work. It won't be counted as late if it is completed by the Module 2 due date - Sunday at 11:30pm.

ChatGPT

2024.1.13 . Discussion submissions ** Read the description for the discussion in the Assignment activities page for the module. Answer the prompt questions provided in the discussion description - no more than 3-4 sentences. Most discussions require a link to the resource you select and your comments. .. ChatGPT or functional equivalent is a very handy tool for quickly getting some information on any topic, even for CIS courses. Students are getting personalized help with some of the assignments. That’s OK IF the final deliverable is your own work. However, it is pretty obvious when a big long answer is provided that doesn’t match the prompt questions and doesn’t include references. .. If you use a generative AI like ChatGPT or Bard and you don't ask a good question, the vague generic answer is not an adequate response. .. If you asked ChatGPT or one of the other generative AIs for help - SAY SO. Include "who" you asked, and what you gave as your prompt. Are you satisfied with this answer? Did you even read the answer? Could you have written something like that yourself? Was it helpful to you? Did you learn anything interesting? .. Understand that if your submission appears to be generated without attribution rather than authored by you, you will be asked followup questions. Answer in your own words in 2-3 sentences at most. Your grade will be zero if you do not provide a satisfactory response in your own words.

As you can see there is a very broad and diverse range of topics covered. If you have questions, please ask. NOTE: ALL activities for a module must be completed by the published due date for that module. See the Syllabus and the Canvas calendar for module due dates. Please be sure to read all the information about the activities and discussions in the separate page. Be sure to complete the Online Orientation before the Module 1 due date - Sunday at 11:30pm. 2023.10.25 WEEK 3 .. By now everyone has had the opportunity to figure out how the course works. So now all assignments will be considered LATE if they are not received by the due date for the module they are in. Late deductions will apply. The only exception is if an Extension has been granted. Ask questions if you need help. Don't wait until the last minute to work on the assignments or ask for help. How are you doing with your time management? Are you getting better at allocating your time and spreacing out the work throughout the week?
