My Projects
Health and Wellness are major issues for any country in the Caribbean region. As the Coordinator and member of the Health Promotion Team, My colleagues and I have introduced an initiative aimed at promoting healthier lifestyles amongst citizens in settings not traditionally seen as health service oriented. These community clinics have brought services to the disenfranchised, the "hard-to-reach" neighborhoods; working single parent families where time/convenience is a deterrent. The result is a one-stop monitoring and screening occasion that may take the form of a "family day"; a lecture series; or a screening event where medical professionals and lay-citizens interact in settings comfortable, friendly and more encouraging to positive behaviour change. Equity, access, compassion and caring and opportunities for advocacy on public health and social health matters have made this initiative quite popular to the point of replication. This photo (right) took place amongst Sunday Morning shopping at the Central Market in Port of Spain, Republic of Trinidad and Tobago during 2009.These Health Outreaches usually consist of the following activities:
- Basic Health Screening
- Blood Glucose Monitoring
- Blood Cholesterol Monitoring
- Blood Pressure
- Body Mass Index & Nutrition Counselling
2. Cancer Screening
- PSA (male prostate)
- DRE
- Pap Smear (cervical -female)
- Breast examinations
3. HIV/Rapid Testing(Our HIV Committment)
4. Mental Health Screening
- Depression
- Stress Management Counseling
- Anger Management Counseling

My Reflection
We are each one of the "winds of change" that blows through every existence. Your purpose is to decide whether you remain gentle as a "caressing whisper of wind" that gently nudges the souls and spirits of others to positivity or an "an exhilirating rush" that heralds happiness and exhiliration. Yet we are all at times storm tea-cups of fury but like mist and movement these changes should be less permanent. Seek to pollenate those around you with generosity, curiosity, as the warm caribbean breeze that rolls off the sea and tide.....the winds are blowing...can you feel ? Each exercise and tutorial here has been interesting and confirms my theory of there being more good in the technological advances of man than there are negative. I will allow this change to blow through me, within me and pass it on to others.
