Talk:Libre emblem

Rather associate "libre" with libre resources not requiring attribution?

e.g. ShareAlike 1.0 and a proposed update, CC0, PD, ....

Seeing the libre emblem means: when appropriate I must attribute, etc. - otherwise this resource is free to adapt, mix, ... (but do check if I need to preserve freedoms in my derived work - e.g. ShareAlike as above).

Thoughts anyone?

  • How strong is the association already with cc-by and cc-by-sa?
  • What about the (imo) unfortunate misuses of the word? (e.g. Peter Suber's in the context of Open Access?).

Would it make sense to have a "Libre" label/emblem on physical devices?

If so, what would need to be true about the device and its design specifications?
