When choosing a topic for a research, you should consider things you also want to learn through the process; it is a way to have fun as you investigate things that really get your attention. There are many topics to talk about; however this time, it would be important to analyze new things that are important in the process of teaching as well as learning. Nowadays, technology has been a new tool in teaching and of course in learning. This is why, I consider it as a good topíc to research on. Although the information you can find related to that topic is not enough, there are many evidence to prove how technology has been important in teaching and learning. --Ale Rivera 12:45, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Ale!!!

Why is important to learn through the process?

Are you mentioning some of the topics for reseraching?

Veroorosco (talk)01:56, 18 August 2010

Because we do not know everything, this is why we are researching lol. }However if you pay attention during the process and you enjoy it, then, next time when researching will be very easy for you to follow the same process, and this will make you to enjoy and have fun when working on something!

Ale Rivera (talk)02:01, 18 August 2010

Am I prepared to face this challenge? Do not be afraid if you are a foreign language learner rememeber that you are in the process of learning and with it many mistakes come with. Do not get upset for the mistakes that you did, have done and will do beause is not you mother tongue even if it was your mother tongue I am sure you would commite some mistakes. The use of punctuation, the use of some verbs and the uses of the appropriate words to make the paragraph make sense are some of the weaknesses. This would be some of the challenges to be achieved. Relax, make a deep breathe and if you are not use to write here you will find some tips for being a good writer.

Punctuation and coherence are my greatest callenges in academic writing. Sometimes it is difficut to make sense when writing so the reader would be able to understand it, that´s why it is important to practice and learn how to do it. I used to have many mistakes because I do not know how to avoid them or anyone has told me. By practicing I am going to improve my writing an at the end of this course I will be achieving my objectives. I usually use punctuation as I think or imagine some commas or periods should go, but I am sure there are certain rules that must be followed.

Veroorosco (talk)01:45, 18 August 2010

Have you done anything to improve your punctuation?

Ale Rivera (talk)01:56, 18 August 2010

Yes, I have Ale!!!! I have been reading for certain strategies when writing and I think I am in the process of getting better, I am sure that by practicing I will be improving it a lot.

Veroorosco (talk)07:59, 19 August 2010

Certainly; it is very difficult to make sense through using punctuation correctly in order to write coherent arguments especially when we a re dealing with another language. Actually, I have also the same problems but perhaps I have also even more ones. I would like to ask you a question: What are the strategies you are thinking about in order to deal with that problem? I will really appreciate you if you share with me some of them. Thank you! --Lcarroperez 12:59, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

Learning vocabulary in a foreign language seems to be a quite easy activity that can be carried out only in the classroom with (an only book ss) or method. But in fact, it is not so. That is why I would like to conduct research on describing the ways UAA students learn collocations and (of course wc) then compare those results with UAT students. (Certainly wc)(; p) this is an ongoing research I have been carrying out (since four months wc) ago in Tlaxcala. The person who has been helping me is Rosalina Dominguez Ángel (Ph,D); a person to whom I really admire. My ideal job would be the one she has. She has been to the United Kingdom, Italy, France(c) and the (States o). (Of course wc) it is not going to be easy; as an English language learner my greatest challenges in academic writing are not just abyding by the rules of (English Academic Writing wo) but also (the complexity the research topic I chose has ss). Finally(; p) I would like to recall a phrase that Sun Zu stated in his book "The Art of War" that (has to be with w) the challenge that academic writing represents to me: "If you are far from the enemy, make him believe you are near"

Lcarroperez (talk)01:47, 18 August 2010

Have you already investigated some strategies for learning vocabulary easily?

Veroorosco (talk)07:44, 19 August 2010

Students from all around the world tend to face problems when learning a second language. One of their most common problems is Negative Transfer, a phenomenon that is present in every Language classroom. Rule generalization and the use of false cognates are examples of the presence of Negative transference in the students’ learning process. Therefore, it is important for the ESL teacher to detect this phenomenon in order to help the students in its avoidance. This is why I would like to conduct a research on Negative Transfer in the ESL classroom.

Alma Cardona (talk)01:48, 18 August 2010

How can we as teachers avoid those kind of problems with students? How can students avoid them?

Veroorosco (talk)08:05, 19 August 2010

what should a student do in order to face this problem?

Mayra-mtz (talk)15:56, 19 August 2010

sounds interesting, but what obout positive transfer, are you going to include it in your research?

I would like to conduct research on how the use of the material affects the learning process in a possitive way. I am really convinced that even though all students learn in a different way the use and creation of the material have a possitive impact as long as it is use correctly no matter what kind of students they are.

Gabo (talk)01:49, 18 August 2010

Have you done a research before?

Dulce Maria Padilla (talk)01:58, 18 August 2010

Is there any specific material you recomend when teaching?

Veroorosco (talk)02:06, 18 August 2010

but there has also affect in a negative way? what do you think about this

Shaka (talk)01:50, 20 August 2010

I think writing process takes time to master because in writing the writer must have many background in vocabulary but it is not just learn all the words in the dictionary and that is it. For example I got stopped when I do not know how to use the appropiate word to be used in the text to make the writing make sense or use the word to make the text see elegant. There are some other challenges in writing like the use of punctuation marks, connectors. So I have work to do in order to be a good writer.

What is the most difficult aspect to manage when writing?

Knowing us and having an idea about what we enjoy doing, can help us to find or dream career and even better to look for our ideal job. For doing that, I believe that it is important to have an idea about what would you like to do for the rest of your life. Nowadays the careers have been given much importance and this is the beginning of our future life. If we think about our ideal job, we have to take into consideration some important aspects about you. Firs of all you have to think in which kind of place would you like to work: It could be an office or in an open place. Also, you have to take into consideration your personality, are you an outgoing person or a very serious one? and most important you have to think in the activities that you enjoy the most, and that are easy for you, this would help you to find your ideal career and most important you are going to know which your ideal job would be.

MY RESEARCH TOPIC

I would like to (research on wc) the theory of multiple intelligences. I consider that it is very (import wc) as a teacher to know how (his /) students learn in order to plan a class. To take in consideration the way his students learn would be useful because in this way (teacher art) will make the class more interesting for students. Some of the multiple intelligences that catch my attention are musical, spatial, kinesthetic, logical mathematical and interpersonal intelligences(c) but I would like to research on all of them.

Mayra!!!!

Why is important to know about multiple intelligences when teaching?

yes mayra why??

Veroorosco (talk)02:02, 18 August 2010

because each students has his own of learning and may be the teacher does not use the one in which the student learn better. So if the teacher take in consideration how his students learn may he will get better results.

Mayra-mtz (talk)02:10, 18 August 2010

In our times, people dream to have the best job(,cs) according to their talent. Most of the time, each person tries to find a job in which they can earn (a /) good money. But in my case it would be a (passtime sp) in which we have to enjoy. my ideal job should be it that which i can grow as person and also i can sahre my knowledge and experience. teaching is a good job. (i cap)at it is one of the most important job in the life; bescause it have a big responsability with the society. teaching is the best way to give knowledge to people but it should in the correct way. if it is not happen so; students,in this case, they are going to apply what they learn in a correct way.(#)so, teaching has a big and important with society.

My ideal job would be as a teacher at the Universidad Autonoma de Aguascalientes because I would love to teach linguistics, and I dont think I would be able to teach linguistics at a secondary school or any other school, this is going to be possible only in higher education institutions. obviously as part of the job, i would like to have a good income, im not asking for much, just enough for me  to survive and be able to by stuff that I like once in a while

Shaka (talk)01:45, 20 August 2010

Hector lara (talk)02:04, 20 August 2010

how important do you consider linguistics, for example teaching in primary school? what is the main importance of learning linguistics as future english teachers?

I would like to conduct research on babies learning a second language, where it is not spoken through listening. There are many theories of learning where this research can be supported by. This is an interesting topic, because it is a great challenge to learn a second language, where it is not spoken.

Alexandra1102 (talk)01:46, 20 August 2010

so your research is going to be carried out in a non English speaking country?? mexico perhaps?

Shaka (talk)01:54, 20 August 2010

yes, my resarch is going to be in this case in MEXICO, let's see how babie will react!!

Alexandra1102 (talk)01:55, 20 August 2010

I think your topic is interesting but i think that you are gonna realize if they are reaaly learning the second language or maybe at the same time when they start speaking.

Flower (talk)02:05, 20 August 2010

As an english language learner, my greatest challenges in academic writing are:

I want to improve my puntuation because sometimes (very often) i tend to use a lot of comas. I would like to improve my grammar when writing because sometimes i forget to include a word or I put it in the wrong order and in order to write a understable thesis i hvae to improve it.

Hector lara (talk)01:47, 20 August 2010

how are you going to do this?

Shaka (talk)01:52, 20 August 2010

How do you think you can achieve this problem?

CaroMaya (talk)01:56, 20 August 2010

practice i think and ask for help each time i need it.

Hector lara (talk)02:15, 20 August 2010

practice practice practice and with help of my dear friend blackberry short cake

Hector lara (talk)02:14, 20 August 2010

Have you ever tried to fix this before? If not, why?

Anabell HG (talk)01:57, 20 August 2010

yes, i have tried but i think the puntuation thing is not my strenght but it patience and a lot of writing i will do it.

Hector lara (talk)02:12, 20 August 2010

yes, I have tried but I suppose need more practice and attitude to learn.

Hector lara (talk)02:29, 20 August 2010

and what is your idea about your thesis's topic?

Flower (talk)02:16, 20 August 2010

I think that we frequently make grammar mistakes but if we keep practicing as much as possible it would be easy to improve

At the end of the semester, I would like to have a clear idea about my thesis topic. Right now I have an idea about the topic, but I am not sure. I would like to write about chlidren, because in the future, when I start working, I would like to work with children, specially small ones. Because i find very interesting how the small kids learn in a fast way than the adults. Also I would like to research about how interactive classes, using the communicative methods would help the kids in their learning; Instead of using the traditional methods. I would like to see the advantages of giving communicative classes, if we as teacher star giving the kids authentic material, and having more contact with the real world ( through games, movies, etc.) would help them in their learning.

Our topics are very related ;)

Leez (talk)02:04, 20 August 2010

yeah!!! I think that we can have a lot of information about topics with kids. We have to take into consideration that catch the attention of the children is very difficult! and i think that using communicative methods would help them a lot! ;)

Fatty (talk)02:10, 20 August 2010

very good faty if you want to work with children in the future it will be good that you make your research in this topic

Fatty (talk)02:18, 20 August 2010

Why do you want to write about children?

Marina T (talk)18:42, 24 August 2010

I would like to conduct my research on How adults can be motivated to learn a second language in this case English, I have to propose some strategies and techniques to make it happen in real language classrooms!!!

Maybe what I also want to be focusing on are the dificulties that students from the BA in ELT face in order to pass the TOEFL exam and how it has became an obstacle to get their degrees!!

But in fact I have not decided what to talk about in my thesis and I have to evaluate the aspect I have to take into consideration to be working with those topics and to evaluate which one s the best option to be researching on!!

CaroMaya (talk)01:52, 20 August 2010

what ages are you focusing on mainly?

Alexandra1102 (talk)01:54, 20 August 2010

Why do you think students are not motivated?

Why do you think BA students have this problem if they are supposed to be teachers?

Anabell HG (talk)02:02, 20 August 2010

caro your topic sounds very interesting, because there are alot of students in the BA that haven't passed the toefl exam maybe this have a big relation with the motivation in adults learners very good

* I would like to conduct research on... The students' reasons to be afraid in developing their speaking skills at basic levels. There are students that even though have the topic, grammar and vocabulary they do not want to speak in the classroom or outside the classroom. It is important as a teacher to encourage students and motivite them to developing spoken language because the main purpose to learn a second language is to be able to communicate.

' * My ideal job would be...' I would like to become a teacher that really communicates the importance to learn a second language because in the world of today, it is one of the main tools to succeed in business and education. I would also work in the translation/writing field, I would like to work in an Editorial because I know that there are many books that are writtten in English and that in many places they are needed in Spanish and sometimes the trasnlation takes so long to arrive that it can be late to use the info because it may be other more updated.

* As an English language learner, my greatest challenges in academic writing are... I think my biggest challenge is to use all the writing tools and rules the best possible. Somethimes it is hard to put all my ideas in paper when they need to fit in a certain format. Also I know that this subject will help me to prepare my thesis for my next semester. so I hope that I can learn as much as possible.

what do you think is the main reason that ss get nervous when speaking?

Alexandra1102 (talk)02:00, 20 August 2010

I think that first of all it becasue it is a new experience. I also think that students do not talk because they think they sound weird and that they do not know when they actually do.

Anabell HG (talk)02:10, 20 August 2010

very good your topic sounds nice maybe this tpic have a big relation with motivation

how do you think you can communicate the importnace of the L2 to your students?

Fatty (talk)02:15, 20 August 2010

Yes that is a very interesting topic because most of we are afraid to speak English even in advanced levels. If you were teacher would you rather to work with adults, young adults, or children?

Leez (talk)02:18, 20 August 2010

I think that your topic is crucial in ELT and useful for all of us.

Marina T (talk)18:49, 24 August 2010

The topic that i would like to write in the writing academic class is " young learners Vs adult learners" i would like to make a research about this because i'd like to know what are the differences between them, for example why do adults have many problems when they want to learn another language and for children is easier? what are the correct methods, strategies or teachniques for children and adults? i think it is an interesting topic because i have realized during my major that this is a big problem, adults have many problems and children don't have them it would be intresting to know the differences and maybe to find an answer.

ATT. ELY

Flower (talk)01:55, 20 August 2010

Don't you think it is the same to learn in a children stage or in an adult stage???

CaroMaya (talk)01:59, 20 August 2010

maybe that's the answer

Flower (talk)02:18, 20 August 2010

Yes you are right it is very interesting you topic because if we realize about the differences it would be easier to find the best way to teach them English.

Leez (talk)02:24, 20 August 2010

I would like to conduct research on the modern method to teach English in primary school.

My ideal job would be working with primary students because I like how they work and think. Also to be working in a hotel at the beach using English language.

As an English language learner, my greatest challenges in academic writing are: To improve my writing skills and clarify how it should be done because I am not sure about all the aspects. To start writing my dissertation project according to the academinc writing aspects. To get more ideas and see different examples of academic writing in this way it would be easy for me to get ideas and start my dissertation. To know in a deep way the writing steps and reinforce the knowledge that I have on them, so in a future I could guide my students in writing process. Also to improve my vocabulary.

Leez (talk)01:58, 20 August 2010

what method do you think is the best for primary school?

Alexandra1102 (talk)02:01, 20 August 2010

I think that the modern method is better

Leez (talk)02:26, 20 August 2010

How would you define a "modern method"?

Bnleez (talk)16:04, 22 August 2010

What kind of job at a hotel would you like to have? Teaching to the employees?

Anabell HG (talk)02:05, 20 August 2010

I would like to work in something like hostess or receptionist something like that but at the seashore. :)

Leez (talk)02:15, 20 August 2010

Do you think that the children would learn better with modern methods rather than the old ones?

Fatty (talk)02:05, 20 August 2010

Yes. I think that according to their characteristics it would be better for them to learn English by playing games and being an important role on the class.

Leez (talk)02:13, 20 August 2010

Do do you think the modern method is the appropiate to teach english?

Hector lara (talk)02:07, 20 August 2010

Yes. Because it would really involve students in class and that is what children like.

Leez (talk)02:16, 20 August 2010

Would you mix methods in order to adapt in your classes instead of use only one?

Marina T (talk)18:33, 24 August 2010

Right now I'm not really sure about the topic that I would like to research on. I have some ideas in mind, but I have not decided a topic yet.

For me one the greatest challenges in academic writing is that sometimes I find it difficult to organize my ideas and that makes me get frustrated. I would like to learn some strategies and useful tools in order to improve my writing skills. Another challenge would be APA style due to it is sometimes kind of confusing for me. I hope that this class help me to develop my writing skills and to get a clearer idea about how to use APA style correctly.

Pilymoreno (talk)02:47, 20 August 2010

What topic would you like to focus?

I would like to conduct research on the "what is the best method to teach children?"

My ideal job would be ... I think that I would like to work with little children because in certain age the children learn a target language faster than other ages and it is funnier the activities to teach them.

As an English language learner, my greatest challenges in academic writing are:

  • Learn the APa style because I had several problems in my previous essays.
  • I think that improve my writing style.
  • Do the homework with responsability and bring it in time.
  • Finally I must to have very clear the topic of my thesis and start to work in it.
