Introduction to media literacy

Define media literacy and critically analyse a media release.

Session 2

Mass media

Analyse how the medium and publisher influences the message in mass media.

  2. Reflect on the roles and influence of different media and the meaning of the "medium is the message"
  3. Reflect on the concept of manufacturing consent and what it means in the age of the Internet

  5. Consider the implications of social media and the internet influences popular culture and society
  6. Consider the implications of fake news in a post-truth era
  7. Complete the topical news challenge

Session 3

Web literacy for fact-checking

Apply critical media literacies to assess, analyse, and evaluate the reliability of reporting of information on the web

Create media

Develop digital skills to create media for visual and multimodal presentation in support of learning.

  2. Generate a diagram by remixing openly licensed scalable vector graphics resources for use in your multimodal presentation
