Stuart Hall was a Jamaican-born cultural theorist and sociologist. After graduating at the University of Oxford he held a number of academic university positions, retiring from the Open University in 1997. The following video explores some of Hall's thinking relating to the power of mainstream media in representing race, gender, class, ethnicity and religion. He argued that there is a hidden ideology in the mass media and that the media theorist should find the ideology and critique it.
