To do List

  • Promote the workshop outside (done on an ongoing basis. Have promoted on WE Facebook, Caribbean Education Network and will right after this user all our list servers).
  • Verify links
  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Review contents on Workshop Schedule. Feel free to add relevant content.
  • Delegate tasks.
  • Create live online events. (Comment.gif: We normally do this a week from the start of the workshop, Sunday?? Please take into consideration prominence of countries and also provide date/time link. I can help if you want me to. You should invite people of your choice to present/share their experiences. It is always nice to have Wayne on board, given all the new developments, if he can make it. He is very busy but I would definitely try. Wiziq has been the place. Up to you as we can use integrated technologies. You should decide soon as you want to give advertising a bit of time--Patricia Schlicht 03:13, 17 November 2009 (UTC))

Re: Hi Patricia, This might be the biggest challenge for me as I usually only have a couple of hours at night Vancouver time with little bits and pieces scattered about the rest of the day to be online. How long do the live events usually last? How many people usually participate from our side? There are a significant number of registrations from India and Africa so it seems like making it a time convenient for them would draw the most participants. I have not used Wiziq so would need some help with this (or any other event platform for that matter). Rob Kruhlak 07:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)
(Comment.gif: No problem. We sorted this one out. All set up but had to do it under my name now as I can't do it under yours. I apologies for not making Sanjay part of this event. I went by the registration site when I looked at it and there is not mentioned as co-facilitator but he is on the participants list, which I only saw after the fact. In any case, it is setup and I will invite people on Day 2. I just added the event to the Workshop Schedule but didn't see a template? --Patricia Schlicht 19:11, 22 November 2009 (UTC))

Date?
Time?
  • (Comment.gif: Robert, Do you want me to set up the basic Google forum or will you. I sent both Gladys and you and invite, but it appeared as "not allowed". Not sure if this means that you need another email address. I found this to be strange. Let me know)--Patricia Schlicht 02:49, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: I can set it up. This is what I have as necessary to get it going: I register participants starting 3/4 days in advance of the workshop. Then post the days instructions when appropriate. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Rob Kruhlak 07:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC) (Comment.gif: We normally open the forum 2-3 days in advance as mentioned earlier, to give them time to find their way, to introduce themselves and also from preventing of all intros coming in at once. We have worked this out separate. Forum is ready to go but I will rely on you on posting the messages in the afternoon our time each day for the next day. I looked at Day 2, looking good!! Feel free to amend text as you see fit --Patricia Schlicht 19:14, 22 November 2009 (UTC))

Transferring registration data

I am testing a python robot via User:KruhlypyBot to transfer data from the registration page to the participants list page automatically. It also verifies the user name(s) so we don't need to check if the user actually registered before adding Template:EL4C user page (See Populating Participants' User Pages below). I am hoping this will reduce the time it takes and the number of cut and paste typos. Rob Kruhlak 02:37, 12 November 2009 (UTC) (Comment.gif: The script will now remove registrations from the registration page once they have been transferred to the participants list.)

Comments

Wow that would be fantastic, Robert --Patricia Schlicht 02:50, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Populating Participants' User Pages

A simple method for populating a user page with the welcome template, categories, and headings is to add:

{{subst:EL4C user page|Name=EL4C32}}

subst and Name are required to directly substitute the content into the user page and select the correct welcome template. A suggestion for the summary text is as follows:

Created with Template:EL4C user page. Questions should be directed to your eL4C facilitator.

For more information see Template:EL4C user page and the caution below.

Caution

Diamond-caution.svg
Before adding any content to a linked user page, make sure it corresponds to the correct user account. Click on "my contributions" link (in registered participants table), there must be at least one of the following edition line:
Variable Date - variable Time - (hist) (diff) Learning4Content/Workshops/Online schedule/eL4C31/Register ‎
This edit confirms the user registered to the workshop.

Comments/Questions

(Comment.gif: This would provide that all participants have registered user accounts. When they first register, they might just register but they do not have registered user accounts yet. Most register later or during the workshop but some - you hope they will - end up not registering?) --Patricia Schlicht 02:57, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Re: To register on the wiki they must have an account or they can not register (ie edit the registration page). I have only received one e-mail registration out of the current 35 and that user was already an account holder.Rob Kruhlak 07:44, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

Proposals

Notes from eL4C31

  • Since participants are required to create an account before registering to the workshop (see page Register), I don't see the need to teach this topic on Day 2, I rather propose to teach them how to personalize preferences. What do you think? -Gladys Gahona C. 15:30, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
    • Which preferences were you thinking of covering? Rob Kruhlak 20:47, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
  • Those contained in "User profile" and "Date and time" tabs, we can suggest to keep the rest untouched until they get familarized with the system.--Gladys Gahona C. 21:10, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
  • I don't see we have a WikiEd tutorial for preferences. WE can:
  • Develop one or
  • Develop a help page
  • I did not find one either. A help page might be the best place to start ... Things that might be useful for newbies:
  • E-mail options (I don't remember what the defaults are any more).
  • E-mail (under User Profile)
  • What about this help page? Help:My_preferences. I put screenshots of my personal account for exemplification, they can be edited anytime of course. --Gladys Gahona C. 21:03, 1 October 2009 (UTC)

Ideas for engaging participants in Wiki Discussions

  • Discussions first start at Google groups. eL4C mailing list. Newbies are not familiar with wiki edition.
  • From day 3 we should encourage participants to start adding to wiki discussions.

(Comment.gif: Might be a little early, Gladys. While some will have an idea what they are learning, most do not. Give it a week or so, when they get a better feel. We should however encourage them to join the Main WikiEducator mailing list, also for later help as you personally might not always be available) --Patricia Schlicht 03:16, 17 November 2009 (UTC)}}
