About WE India Chapter
The eminent agriculturist scientist and Honorable Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Dr. M.S. Swaminathan has inaugurated the India Chapter of WikiEducator and launched the india page in various languages in the presence of Shri. Jainder Singh IAS, Secretary, Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in a national event held at India International Centre on the 15th November 2008 at 2:30 p.m. This function was organised by Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia (CEMCA) in association with GKP, OWSA and Acharya Narendra Dev College. To start with India Chapter has a six member Interim Advisory Board as given below.

The Objectives
|
- Support and Coordinate the WE activities in India.
- Facilitate the maintenance of India Node in WikiEducator.
- Support the development of a Transnational curriculum.
- Promote free content development.
- Promote the use of Agricultural Open Education Resources (AOER) among farmers throuh WE for Agricultural extension.
- Promote the use of WikiEducator.
- Provide Learner support.

The Interim Advisory Board
|
The Interim Advisory Board for the Inda Chapter with the following members is responsible to formulate a working principle for the India Chapter in consultation with the WikiEducator Council and Indian WikiEducator community.
- Dr. Savithri Singh, Principal, Acharya Narendra Dev College, University of Delhi, New Delhi.
- Dr. Pankaj Khare, Director, International Division of Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi, India.
- Dr. R. Sreedher, Director, Commonwealth Educational Media Centre for Asia, New Delhi.
- Dr. Gita Mathur, Reader in Botany, Gargi College, New Delhi.
- Dr. Sanjaya Mishra, Reader in Distance Education, Indira Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi.
- Mr.Anil Prasad, Nodal Officer (Web), Finance Department, Govt. of Kerala.

Thanks a lot for sharing this development and I congratulate you, Dr. Savithri Singh, Dr. Pankaj Khare and Dr. Sreedher for taking this initiative.
Your idea to discuss the priorities of India Chapter is a good one too. You and Dr. Singh have been members of our various events related to agriculture and WE all along. I would appreciate that you and the members include among others developing contextually relevant content for agriculture at different levels for education, extension and research and with particular emphasis on local language content for farmers. As we have initiated in Sri Lanka and in India, farmers should be members of such content development.

I cannot command those that came up with the idea enough and it will be huge task given India's size and the many different priorities, but it is an exciting undertaking that gets my mind going.
It would like to suggest to also have a place where to input all those areas of interest on WikiEducator directly. People could list their ideas, so we have an open and transparent forum to work from.
Following Krishna's suggestion below, for instance, it could be divided into subject areas:
