What are social media?

Social media are primarily Internet and mobile-based tools for sharing and discussing information among human beings. The term most often refers to activities that integrate technology and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio.

Social media are a tool that is used both on a personal level and organisational and corporate level.

Social media are software technologies that run off hardware technologies like computers and cellphones. Social media has been growing in variety and usability over the past 10 years.
