Motion to Appoint Members to Council

Motion

I move to uphold the Draft Policy and afford elected Council members the opportunity to vote on the nomination of a minimum of four (4) to a maximum of ten (10) duly proposed candidates as nominated members to the WikiEducator Community Council, by means of affirmative vote for each candidate.

Note: Members can view the history of the proposer and second for each nominated candidate.

Discussion

Regarding the nominations made here: Throughout the debate about the merits of nominating members, the primary justification or reassurance for nominating people into the Council was to fill skills gaps. While I don't doubt the commitment the people in this list have to whole notion of Open Educational Reform, only one Nominee has a justification that explicitly addresses the question of skills that the Council does not already have.

As for the title of this motion to "uphold the draft policy", how aggravating. This motion is to nominate members to the Council, which is but one aspect of upholding the Draft Policy. We are yet to address removal clauses and set the Executive Committee. Not long now, the Council will effectively look nothing like the election result.   • The WikiEducator project utilises Creative Commons licenses (CC-BY and CC-BY-SA) and this nomination represents an appropriate and effective mechanism to keep abreast with contemporary licensing developments;
  • Our Council has limited expertise pertaining to intricacies of Creative Commons licensing;
  • Creative Commons is charitable corporation and external experience in the management of non-profit entities would be a valuable asset to our community.

  • Sue manages the E-learning Office at The Open Polytechnic, and also works with a range of public and private sector organisations and NGOs in the Pacific Region primarily in the area of professional development for e-learning however also to assist with instructional design for a range of courses. She has been involved in a number of Government-funded e-learning capability projects within New Zealand, including the Open Source Virtual Learning Environment project, e-learning Guidelines project, eXe project and the Networked Education Pilot project.
  • Sue engages with a range of national groups and forums and has participated in a number of initiatives, including eXe Training Resources for Teacher Education programme. Projects on Eduforge.
  • In a joint project for the e-learning guidelines, Sue chose to use eXe as the development tool, and create resources under the Creative Commons licence framework.
  • Sue assisted with the management and development of the NZ Government-funded Open Educational Resources project.
  • Sue is a member of the team which is developing the Computer Navigator's Certificate (CCNC).
  • Sue attends conferences, and delivers papers and workshops, advocating especially for the use of OERs in the sector.
