On another note, I was under the impression that the wiki I'm working on couldn't be seen "publicly" until it is published. Am I mistaked? If I should write up the material elsewhere first and then transfer it to the wiki later when it's complete I don't mind doing that. Thanks again.

Everything in the wiki is publicly accessible. I think that developing openly has many advantages. It is much easier to find collaborators for a project in development, rather than developing a resource completely and then hoping that others will adopt it. It also allows mid-course corrections if someone notices a problem or wants to make a suggestion. It also allows wiki gardeners to make small typographic or stylistic updates at any time.
