Hi De Anza,
I stumbled upon this interesting subpage. Taking the liberty to share my opinion.
- No/poor internet access 3rd world countries
- When satellite internet becomes economically viable, local Govt. and billionaire philanthropists would surely arrange a few (as these things get good media coverage).
- I think a shift in communication protocols is required here. We already have a decent research into algorithms supporting P2P community browsing, delay tolerant communication, etc along with widely used implementations.
- We still lack standard protocols to connect all the existing, disparate P2P clients. Probably a few IETF drafts are needed.
- Not much visibility/ways to call for help for survivors of catastrophes
- I think the problem is in the domain of media priorities, advertisement dollars & audience affinity. Technology may not be the bottleneck here.
- Note that we no longer pay for our news-feed and hence we are just consumers NOT end-customer.
- Plastic pollution
- Technology is probably a minor cost here. The major bills come from legal fees dealing with (or evading) regulations.
- 3rd world countries don't (and probably can't) enforce regulations. Hence, it would always be cheaper to dump waste into poorer regions than facing regulatory hurdles at home.
- Alternatives to payday loans for people who won't scam the system and really need help
- I like the modelling of Trust in Game Theory. Setting these up in closely knit communities should be easier - like alumni of a school/college.
- Is there… A knowledge-base (so not corporate or ad-driven) site that aggregates real issues and asks for help or expertise for real solutions?
- Any system without a central authority needs to deal with free-loaders.
- However, looking at the scale of success achieved by multiple wikis, this surely exists in the domain of viable solutions.
Thanks & Regards,
