5. TOPIC: WikiEducator educational resource

Johnathan Bounleuth Jul 11, 2018 http://wikieducator.org/Computer_Assisted_InstructionLinks to an external site. * When you're searching through WikiEducator, you must really have a specific topic you'd want to dive into because I had trouble finding a full page with at least a few sentences on the topic. What was quite interesting want that a few pages had a topic but the description or the bundle of the page was filled with random letter or keyboard smashing which was funny. It would have been easier if they just typed "work in progress". I chose Computer Assisted Instruction. When I used to work for Jiffy Lube, we used a "computer assisted instruction" as part of our training. It consisted of many modules including videos and tests.

Jeonghyeon Yu Tuesday Jul 17 at 10:53pm http://wikieducator.org/Open_educational_resourcesLinks to an external site.

My topic is open educational resources. For the comment about my selection, I chose that because I wanted to know about it more. And I could not agree more with Johnathan Bounleuth! I also had trouble finding a page.

vt: Thanks. This comes up every semester I teach this course with this assignment. I relay this information to the main folks at WikiEducator. Yes, they know this. But being a searchable resource isn't the main purpose of WikiEducator. It is a place for people like me to put stuff that anyone can access and use. * Did you notice the little block in the top right corner of the page? That was a suggestion - use this to say that this is a complete open resource page, so viewers can limit their search to formal OER resources. It is available to any WikiEducator user. I think I'm the only one who uses it. * I appreciate your efforts and comments. I will pass them along again this semester.

Oliver Loveday Wednesday Jul 18 at 2:59pm http://wikieducator.org/Introduction_to_ComputersLinks to an external site. This link talks about an Introduction to Computers. I chose this think because when it comes to computers I did not know much. I knew how to turn one on and type in google that is about it. But this article teaches you exactly what data is, how it's stored, how it's processed etc. Reading these helped me a lot because I'd hear words like hardware or data or data processing and I'd never be able to explain to someone what it meant. Now I know a lot more about the basics of a computer and how they run and process things. As opposed to other articles, this link had a lot of information I was looking for.

Michael Carson Wednesday Jul 18 at 5:16pm http://wikieducator.org/History/Black_Civil_RightsLinks to an external site. Yeah, I was surprised there is so much on the Black Civil Rights Movement. This could be a great source for research they seem to have a wealth of knowledge on various subjects. As online education moves forward site like wikieducator.org will become more valuable.

Nicolle Ayon Wednesday Jul 18 at 11:27pm http://wikieducator.org/PYTHON_TUTORIALSLinks to an external site. I have some experience coding in Java and C, but I have really wanted to learn python, therefore I chose the WikiEducator page on Python Tutorials. I found it gives a great overview of the basics of programming (such as what variables are, functions, generators, etc.) It also provided some really helpful links to learn more about python, including a free e-book.

Yoin Wai Tse Yesterday Jul 19 at 6:57am https://wikieducator.org/Time_managementLinks to an external site. I searched to see if there’s information on topic as simple as time management, it only provide ways on how to have a good time management. However, when I searched for procrastination, more information is listed which also includes time management and give a detailed examples and outlook on how to resist procrastination to increase the skills of time management. Both are interrelated, yet, the information on the sites are different and one is insufficient. I think it’s better if the search engine shows both the sites on a same page.

Ryan Thompson Yesterday Jul 19 at 5:05pm Wikieducator has a tool where you can make your own book. On the left hand side under the print/export drop down menu their is the option. You can add any wiki page found in wiki educator and easily add it to your book. This must be very helpful for teachers creating lesson plans. This also directly adds the sources so their is no need to cite. I can see this also being used for bookmarking purposes, whenever you come across a good page you can add it to your book. http://wikieducator.org/index.php?title=Special:Book&bookcmd=book_creator&referer=Main+Page

David Owens Yesterday Jul 19 at 6:47pm I searched on Entrepreneurship I got one paragraph indicated it was a way of earning money, the process of learning on how to identity and initate a businesss. I searched on edutainment which is one of our keywords. It came up with 12 links for the result. Went through several which had nothing to do with the keyword and was list of conferences and outlines from other countries. Further down was a hit on Demonstration of uses of audio visual based media for teaching.

http://wikieducator.org/Demonstration_of_uses_of_audio_visual_based_mediaLinks to an external site.

This would not be a website of choice to do research for me. I find it difficult to find useful information.

Barish Arslan Yesterday Jul 19 at 9:29pm http://wikieducator.org/Elements_of_UnderstandingLinks to an external site. This was a really interesting page I found while searching for critical thinking. It describes an "approach to understanding objects in the world... originally developed as an approach to linguistic analysis used by Kenneth and Evelyn Pike... two main resources ... were Grammatical Analysis and Linguistic Concepts". I think before we can think critically on a topic, we need to break down what we are actually looking at, and this article describes a few methods to do just that.

It teaches you how to use mathematical based formulas to create computer art which looks beautiful and interesting to the eye. It looks like they provide all the theories and code snippet. I should look further into it.
