There are plenty of community organizations that depend on the support of volunteers. Many are now looking to online volunteering as a way to continue their important work in the communities they serve.

For DeAnza CIS students, there are a number of organization with open source software development projects that can be completed in just a few hours. These are beneficial to the organization and can provide great real-world development opportunities for students (and graduates).

Oppia - an online learning tool that enables anyone to easily create and share interactive activities. BRL-cad - BRL-CAD is a powerful open source cross-platform solid modeling system that includes interactive geometry editing, high-performance ray-tracing for rendering and geometric analysis, a system performance analysis benchmark suite, geometry libraries for application developers, and more than 30 years of active development. . Projects - Coding-centric set we used for last GCI is at https://brlcad.org/gci/2019/tasks/ and another general audience set is at https://brlcad.org/wiki/Deuces. The tasks change up and get added regularly (listing everything is intimidating). Variety of difficulties and skills and not just coding tasks, but all are scoped around 2-4 hours of time for someone fully set up, experienced. That means they are tasks that’ll take the average newbie anywhere from a day to a week when you add in setup, discovery, and skill.
