About Me
I am Uma Kanjilal, Professor of Library and Information Science at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. I am currently also Director of School of Social Sciences at IGNOU. I joined IGNOU as lecturer in 1989 and all these years had a great experience in the ODL system.I have always been fascinated with ICT applications in education and tried to adapt myself with latest technologies.
I had the privilege to work on multimedia courseware development during my Fulbright Fellowship in the University of Illinois, Urbana Champaign in 1999- 2000. This was the turning point in my career which oriented me towards e-learning and multimedia courseware development.
My Current Projects
I am involved in the following projects as Coordinator:
- eGyanKosh: A Digital Repository containing all IGNOU course material. The repository is powered by an open source application DSpace.
- Sakshat: A One Stop Education Portal of Ministry of Human Resource Development, India.
- LIVE (Library and Information Virtual Education): A virtual platform for online Master's in Library and Information Science.

- Module 1 (Concepts of IT)
- Module 2 (Using the computer and managing files)
- Contributions to Commonwealth Youth Programme Regional Centre for Africa project
