My profile
My name is Dianne Bloor. I am looking forward to meeting fellow educators. I am new to the use of a wiki-- but am excited about learning how to find my way around a wiki and the power it may have as a tool for sharing and creating knowledge.
Professional background
I began my professional life many years ago as a registered nurse. I worked then in critical care areas and was part of the team that performed the first mitral valve replacement in our area-- a big event then, but now done very regularly. Amazing to see the rate of change just in one working life time! Working in nursing stimulated my interest in sciences and then there was an opportunity to teach.
Teaching and learning has been a passion for me ever since. I worked for many years at a local community college as a teacher, manager, international educator, professional developer and curriculum support person & was fortunate in that, in all these roles, I was able to continue teaching-- at least one course. I have recently retired and love this new chapter of my life. However, I do miss;that wonderful feeling that comes when we see learners grow and change right in front of our eyes!!
I am currently involved in some small projects related to program quality review and building capacity for curriculum development in Ontario's community colleges.
Education
My undergraduate degrees are in nursing science.
My Master's Degree is in Education with a dual concentration in psychopedagogy and curriculum.
I have completed the courses for a doctoral degree in education but did not complete the dissertation.
My interests
Professional
I consider myself to be a bit of a "curriculum junkie", and enjoy all things curriculum-- design, development, implementation, review and revision. I also am fascinated by some of the latest developments in cognitive science-- and can't resist trying out some of the concepts with young grand kids.
Personal
Retirement has allowed more time to enjoy family (including the canine members), volunteer in the community, and to rekindle an interest in film.
My wiki projects
- I registered for eL4C47, a Learning4Content workshop to learn wiki skills.
- I will try to contribute something-- stay tuned for more thoughts on a possible project.
