Linking to community radio

Jump to: navigation, search

At Makerere University Agricultural Research Institute, Kabanyolo (MUARIK), we have students from different colleges who come for service learning and we would like to use community radio as a means of communication with them. How best can we do it?

Dear Moses, This is a very good idea that needs to be included in our project. For people who do not know it,

“Community radio is a new type of radio station
focusing on the delivery of specific social benefits
to enrich a community or a range of listeners
      within a small geographical area.”

I have been reading about it and this is what I have found out. With Community Radio we shall -:

realize our students' and the project's full potential.
transform our community

For the guidelines on how to set it up, please refer to http://www.communityradiotoolkit.net/ as I am making more research.

We welcome all suggestions that can help us set up this community radio because it is important for our community growth and development.

Regards

Well for this feature to be included in our Project and make it a success we need full participation of all the stakeholders in the agricultural and government being the biggest shareholder we need to consult with the responsible government institutions.About the community radio, and it can be used communicate to students, students trek long distances to come to Kabanyoro.I was thinking that instead of traversing journeys to Kabanyoro we can reach them and their teachers through this community Radio. It will act as a learning resource that will benefit all those that cannot even afford the costs of visiting Kabanyoro. Here is something little about Community and how it works. Community radio is a type of radio service that caters to the interests of a certain area, broadcasting material that is popular to a local audience but is overlooked by more powerful broadcast groups. It is a non profit radio that broadcasts material in the interest of a target group though listenership can apply to bigger communities.

Unlike the internet, radio is not a new deveolpment in uganda even among the most remote of villages, at the moment every other district in uganda has atleast a radio and broadcasting in the local language

it would be a great idea to implement community radio into this project.to take this to radio its important that alot of information regarding farming, farmers which i believe you can easily get as we also do the neccessary technically.

awreness by sensitisation of this kind of radio is also important, this can be done by advertising through short scripts about the project that can be played on radio for about 1-2 minutes.

we also need to update the website so that those that can get more information online visit the eunais website for detailed information

I think the radio programmes may not help much, to me the mobile phone postings may work so greatly since most if not all own Mobile phones. In fact some students have no time to listen to radio station.

I must say i disagree with Wiliam about all students having mobile phones. Most of the students who come for service learning dont have so much money to own aphone as stated all have, lets not take this for granted as our economy is still new in technology stuff.Well my suggestion would be how about we advertise in their respective colleges and we discuss with them too how best we can reach them.We could also tell them about community radio and make programmes there on specific days, and advise them to be listening to this radio atleast once in a while or for specific programmed days.
