Hi Karen,

Thanks for your message. It's great that you tried learning some Russian for your visit - I think it's an interesting experience and good for the brain!

I've lived here quite a long time so I suppose I am fluent. My wife and I speak Russian at home. Actually I'm not doing much teaching at the moment but yes, basically when I'm working I speak or write English quite a lot.

Do you think your institution is likely to develop any contacts with Russian organisations?

All the best,

John Kuti

Curious you should ask about SAIT - Actually our recruiters go to Russia and we have quite a few Russian students here. The big draw is information communication and then petroleum engineering. You can check us out at www.sait.ca. What did you have in mind for contacts?

Karen

The SAIT site looks most impressive!

I'm mainly interested in the scene in Saint Petersburg - which has lots of different universities. When one looks at Russian institutions it's often quite hard to judge what sort of programs they offer and the quality. Like a lot of people here, we like getting opinions from outside on how we measure up, what the good schools are, and so on. Higher education here is just entering a period of major reform, after 20 years of neglect.
