My profile
My name is Karen McDaniel and I live in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I have been an educator for the last 36 years and during that time, I have taught students from grade two all the way to master's graduates. I started out as a history and poltical science high school teacher and have moved up and down the continuum. I was also an administrator at the elementary, secondary and post-secondary levels. I also spent many years working in professional development for teachers both as a facilitator and a developer.
I have four degrees: BA in history and polical science from the University of Saskatchewan, BEd in secondary methods also from the University of Saskatchewan, a MEd in staff development from the University of Calgary and a EdD in curriculum and instruction also from the University of Calgary.
I actually retired from all of this in 2005 and took a job at SAIT Polytechnic as the articulation coordinator which is an awesome job. I broker agreements between SAIT and other post-secondary institutions provincially, nationally, and internationally so that students may use their credential coursework as transfer credit towards advanced credentials. It is a very interesting, challenging and complex job which allows me to use my prior educational experiences in a totally new capacity.
My interests
I'm interested in:
- curriculum and instruction and the integration of technology to facilitate teacher growth and student learning
- networking with educators to share educational resources
- becoming an online facilitator for either undergraduate or graduate education courses
