Feedback on Banner #1 - Enabling Awareness Around the Globe

I don't think "Awareness" is the best concept for the banner.

I would say the following are better:

  1. Enabling learning around the globe or
  2. Enabling education around the globe

The fist option is my preference because you can learn for free without the need for assessment or credentialing.

Copy text for Banner #1 reads:

OERu connects learners around the world with defined pathways to education, created by recognized educators and assessed by renowned global institutions. The learning is free and credentialing is very affordable.

We have an amazing network of like minded thought-leaders. We are certainly "renowned" in the OER credentialing space. That said - we are not renowned in the sense of "Ivy league" rankings and wondering if it would be better to say assessed by accredited global institutions or assessed by credible institutions. What do partners think or am I being to conservative in blowing our own trumpets?

I think you're underselling yourself - you've got an amazing assembly of globally recognized professionals and institutions, all working together to do good. While we might not want to use 'renowned' in all of the collateral we're creating, I think we're well within our rights to say this on our (apparently I've taken ownership here...) website - which is where this banner will live.

Saying this on our website without extending this to all the collateral is perfectly legitimate as you point. At the OERF we love shared ownership - welcome to the OERu family!

 
 
 

Feedback on Banner #2 - Globally Recognized Credentials

Adoption of consistent style conventions.

  1. Should we adopt US, Canadian, British or other Commonwealth spelling conventions, for example "Recognised" or "Recognized": Credentials
Speaking personally as long as we are consistent - that's fine, especially considering the global nature of the OERu network and that "ise" versus "ize" in British spelling is becoming less of an issue in the modern world. Or am I offending purists?

Copy for Banner #2 reads

All OERu courses can be assessed towards academic credit through one of our partner institutions, which means that for a fraction of the full tuition costs, you can get formal credit recognized around the world.

The formal assessments are optional – if you’re not interested in formal credit you don’t have to spend a cent.

To be more correct, I suggest deleting "All" in "All OERu courses" because there are some preparatory / foundation courses listed on the OERu site aimed at providing learner support which do not offer assessment towards academic credit.

For the prospective target audience 'Globally Recognized Qualifications' may be more effective

Jim is right, learners will be more familiar with the concept of qualifications - the concept of credentials is more academic and of greater interest to institutions and assessment gurus. Qualifications would be more acceptable and understandable to both audiences.

Regarding UK/Business English - should we message the group to find the appropriate direction? If this were a typical business audience, my recommendation would be to use US spelling, but in academia I think we're probably best served using UK. I'm good with either/or.

Business writing recommends US, but we should continue to use UK, considering our audience. This was me not thoroughly checking, and I'll endeavour to use British English moving forward.

Feedback on Banner #3 - A Purposeful Partnership

I like the alliteration and sense of purpose (pardon the pun) of this banner title. Nice work!

Copy text for Banner #3 reads

Whether you’re looking to reach a global audience to expand your brand; interested in joining an international network of innovative educators; or you’re motivated by community service and social good, the ROI on a partnership with OERu is substantial.

I would recommend we list the motivations according to the order of priority derived from both the context and input evaluations of reasons why partners join the network. I also suggest minor tweaks noting that the OERu is primarily an institutional network before being an partnership of individuals and many of the non-business readers will not know what ROI is I propose rewording the copy as follows:

Whether you’re interested in joining an international network of innovative educational institutions educators; you're motivated by community service and social good, or looking to reach a global audience to expand your brand, the return on investment on a partnership with OERu is substantial.
