Facilitating Book Keeping training for youth entrepreneurs

Premable[edit]

I presume you have read the background material of facilitating bookkeeping.

Most facilitators consider book keeping a difficult subject to deliver. In your opinion, what are the key success factor in delivery of bookkeeping session to youth entrepreneurs?

NaoLintini (talk)22:39, 14 January 2011

I have read some material but i am still finding it hard to understand. I was not very good at bookkeeping/accounting in school so it remains a challenge to me. But i think the main difficulty was the language or examples used in teaching.

Ktembo (talk)22:45, 14 January 2011

Bookkeeping is a trying subject. But it is possible to present it in an engaging manner. The secret lies in the facilitators understanding the level at which the participants are and in using interactive methods of content delivery.

okay. so i know the basics of bookkeeping/record keeping (are they the same?) like keeping a record of what you have on hand and how much you got them at. but how do i calculate at what price to resell a good/product?

Ktembo (talk)23:35, 14 January 2011

Hi Kangwa, I am happy to hear that you understand book keeping better. The terms recordkeeping and book keeping are used interchangebly. But they both basically mean keeping a written record of the movement of cash in your business.

Costing and pricing is usually presented as a different topic.

In my experience as an entrepreneur, i have found it very difficult to use book keeping because i have not done any training. However, i feel after this training, i will be able to do book keeping in my enterprise as i have heard from other people who use it that it is the most effective way of keeping track of whatever is happening in a business

Belinda (talk)22:55, 14 January 2011

thanks for your input Belinda. this training will help you not only understand bookkeeping for your own business but you will also get some practical tips on how you can train youth in this topic. I wish you all the best.

Thank you all for your comments. In this session we will be sharing the various methods and approaches that can help delivery of bookkeeping for exciting and interactive for youth entrepreneurs. I encourage you also to share your experiences and what yu consider best practices.

Hi Don't we all love to hate maths and numbers?? lol I agree with you 110%. Delivery of any subject that involves math/figures has proved to be a challenge for centuries. This could be maily attributed to peoples attitude towards figures. Generally people think that math is difficult. In my opinion, a discussion of book keeping should therefore begin with "de-miystifying" math!!

Susiku Nasinda (talk)23:10, 14 January 2011

I totally agree with you Susiku that we need to demistify maths. This is the reason why we need to demonstrate to our youth entrepreneurs that maths is a practical topic for use in day to day activities such in bookkeeping for their small business ventures.

Interactive training methods for book keeping

We have covered good ground on what the issues are in record keeping. Since most of you are facilitators, Let us now discuss what we fill the best interactive training methods for record keeping. I challenge you to come up with at least five methods.

NaoLintini (talk)23:18, 14 January 2011

Dear Participants,

I thank you all for your inputs, comments and the experiences you have shares.

In summary I can say that we agree that booking is not an easy subject to deliver. Secondly that we need to convince our youth entrepreneurs that this topic is not as difficult as it appears when we apply it to practical issues in our business.

Lastly I want to point out that when you come for the face to face training we shall be focusing the actual bookeeping content.

See you in Siavonga Zambia!!!

thansk kangwa for your queries. During the face to face, we will present a simple system of book keeping which will cover how to fill in a record book, the main log book for accounting activities.

I wish you all the best for now. I hope to see you in Siavonga, Zambia in April.
