Your assessment covers the following Learning Outcomes:
  • Identify and examine sustainability in a tourism context
  • Identify and analyse the complexity and challenges of sustainability in tourism
  • Discuss the future focus for sustainable practice in relation to the tourism industry and enterprises

Portfolio Activity

The aim of this activity is for you to identify, describe and analyze accreditation and certification and the benefits of these processes in a tourism context. This activity is worth 25% of your total mark for this course.


Your assessment task is to complete the following:


1. Using relevant tourism examples - answer the following:

  • what is certification/accreditation in a tourism context
  • analyse the benefits and their successful application, to the sustainability of a tourism experience



Your answer should be in the form of an essay (800 - 1000 words approx.) incorporating an introduction, body and conclusion. All work must be correctly referenced and spelling and grammar checked. Several tourism case studies will be provided to supplement your resources for this work.
