BIOLOGY 22S (2 Semesters) - BIA22S/BIP22S

STRUCTURE
This is a course that can be offered in 2 semesters – Students may opt to take both semesters for a full year course.
Semester 1 – Animal Biology
Semester 2 – Plant Biology
PRE-REQUISITES
14 Level 1 Science credits from Science 12F or 13F
CONTENT
Semester 1: Animal Biology
- Livestock reproductive technologies
- Report on the environmental impact of the production of a locally produced primary product. Includes field trip to a local dairy farm
- Ecological sustainability of New Zealand’s fisheries
Semester 2: Plants – Choice of 3 out of 4
- Practical management of plant growth and development
- Produce a landscape plan
- Biological processes and function of plants
- Plant propagation techniques
ASSESSMENT
Semester 1 – 12 credits
Semester 2 – 12 credits
COST
Approximately $30.00 transport to venues for field trips, $25.00 for workbooks
FUTURE POSSIBILITIES
Agricultural, Horticultural, Viticulture industry training courses.
