Summary of the meeting
- Participants introduced themselves
- General consensus that:
- a Hindi version of the OERu micro-course, Open Education, Copyright and Open Licensing in a Digital World (LiDA103) would add value in supporting the UNESCO OER Recommendation on OER in India.
- Members from the Indian OERu Outreach Partnership and broader WikiEducator community in India are willing to provide support for this community-based translation project.
- Wayne demonstrated the OERu authoring and publishing model highlighting the ability for collaborative wiki editing for translation and the ability to generate a Hindi menu interface for published course sites.
- Recommendations
- Reach out to the Wikimedia India community for advice on Hindi wiki translation.
- Aim to provide an accessible translation that would maximize value for everyday speakers of Hindi
- Noted different skills and roles for required for the initiative, eg Hindi experts for translation and review, participants with wiki editing skills for publishing the course materials.
- Reach out to the Indian chapter of Creative Commons to progress translation of the licenses into Hindi following the processes required by Creative Commons.
- Wayne will write to the Indian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO as UNESCO Chair advising them of this initiative and request any help and support they can provide.
- Ramesh will participate as liaison and convenor for Indian OERu Outreach Partners.
- Pilot the translation of a small section of the course materials to refine processes for the project.
- Proceed with identifying project milestones, projected timeline and role allocation of community volunteers.
