My Profile

Pallavi chander

Hi there, I currently work part-time with Maraa MARAA(which means tree in Kannada), we are a media collective. We work closely with communities and look at creating platforms for expression through media and the creative arts to build and strengthen networks. And regenerate the understanding of media and the role it plays.

I’m also a student of sculpture at Chitrakala Parishad, an art college in Bangalore, India. Studying in an art institution for the last four years has helped me channelize many questions on learning and understand in depth its context and relevance. Untangling the different answers to freeze on one that convinces me. I have rooted most of my learning process through theatre and art. I have been actively involved with MASRAH, a Bangalore based theatre group for the last nine years. For the past three years the group has been conducting a series of theatre workshops for children from various backgrounds. Working on the field paved a way of putting the concepts to practice and rework the flexibility of the structured modules. Working on various modules both for art and theatre workshops facilitated the process further in ‘wanting’ to understand the nuances of ‘teaching’ and ‘learning’.

My Professional Development Interests

Working at maraa, I've began to understand the importance of working with the community rather than looking at everything from the top-down approach. And this led to further wanting to understand the hows, whens, whats and the known and unknown of this community we talk so much about. For the last 2 months, my work at maraa sure has streamed into exploring many routes of media be it radio, theatre, video or art. Whether it’s making radio programmes or using street theatre as tool to inform and protest the recent ‘attacks against women in the city’. What I am keen to explore through the ‘WE’ is one to share the little I’m learning, unlearn and learn more through this process. Another area of interest is looking at theatre and art. I am involved in several processes in this line and would like to share and exchange some modules I’ve been using. Theatre and art in education is something I am keen to look at.

My Reflections

I am a bit back on the training, but I do hope to catch up soon. I had a few questions on the initial days' activities

  • can indents be used for headings? I did try but it didn't work?
    • Pallavi, click on the capital A in the editor (5th from the left) and you will get the headings. --Nellie Deutsch 20:24, 1 April 2009 (UTC)
  • can multiple pages be created on the sandbox link? was wondering if one could edit and practice on multiple pages?
    • If you are referring to new personal sub-pages, then you can create sub pages to your userpage for example: Further Practice. Now you try it. --Nellie Deutsch 20:24, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

thank you

cheers, pallavi
