SESSION 1 : Familiarisation with the UAP equipment and Community of Practice

Streaming: 3 UAP groups (TFS, CLICC 1, CLICC 2)

Lead developer: Ahapi

Prerequisites

  • There should be no prerequisite for this training module and whole SESSION 1.

Resources

  • Get some material from TRR on the UAP Initiative
  • All equipment at Lycee setup as discussed
  • Working Internet connection. Will they be on Lycee network or a Digicel provided Internet? Will it have static IP?

  1. Introducing the Vanuatu Universal Access Policy (UAP)
    • Level - Basic
    • Duration - TODO
    • Objectives
      1. Learn about the UAP initiative
      2. Learn about the various technologies and how they integrate
    • Activities
      1. Walk around and present hardware components
  2. Accessing the network
    • Level - Basic
    • Duration - TODO
    • Objectives
      1. Learn how to connect to the network in a TFS environment
      2. Learn how to connect to the network in a CLICC environment
      3. Learn how to connect to the network in a CLICC Ncomputing environment
    • Activities
      1. All groups should go through connecting to the network in all three environments.
  3. Accessing Internet
    • Level - Basic
    • Duration - TODO
    • Objectives
      1. Brief introduction to the Community Portal (because this is where they will land when logging in)
      2. Learn about access to the Internet from the Community Portal
      3. Learn about the UAP email group
      4. Learn about the CoP and how training modules are organised
    • Activities
      1. Access the Internet (a quick search)
      2. Access to Email (create emails for Basic group?, I think we should stick to Gmail for new users)
      3. Access the UAP email group (register remaining users to UAP email group)
      4. Access to the CoP, make sure everybody can login. All users should be created already (I think they were)
      5. Present structure of the CoP and Training Modules (Training Modules are essentially like school or college courses but specific to the Vanuatu UAP, Training Modules each contain a news forum, a help forum and is divided into a short varying number of topics, topics include objectives, workshop hand-outs, reference material (reading manuals, videos, web links, etc.) and activities).
      6. Post personal bio in forum.
  4. Guided Tour of all Applications

    • Objectives
      1. Introducing participants to applications available in a TFS environment
      2. Introducing participants to applications available in a CLICC environment
      3. Introducing participants to applications available in all environment (web based)
      • All applications pre-installed on Android (except maybe a couple to demonstrate installations later in the week)
      • All applications pre-installed on all Desktop, Laptops, and NComputing tower
    • Activities
      1. A walk through of the coolest tablet applications. At least the ones that will be seen later in the week.
      2. A walk through of the coolest Desktops/Ncomputing applications. At least the ones that will be seen later in the week.
      3. A walk through of the web based applications and tools.
  5. Roles and Administrative Duties

      1. Introducing roles and administrative duties to operate and maintain the UAP Sites
      2. Understanding the importance of administrative duties
      • The Checklist, maybe a simplified version to just introduce participants

      1. Go through a simplified version of the administrative and preventative maintenance checklist

  • Maybe get alma to discuss the group about the UAP initiative, I think he did several such presentations already
  • From previous Training Activities "Go through the supplier provided user guides." those will all be organised into their own respective training modules (as Reference Materials). Going through *all* supplier provided guide at this point seems a little premature and would lead to an early "try to locate stuff all over the place" when they are only getting familiarized with the system. I proposed a slight change. Instead of going through all supplier provided guides we demonstrate how this is organised and where the can find guides. We can use a simple example without necessarily having to chase down all guides right away [GH]
