Customising for Learning4Content
This is starting to take shape nicely.
I'd like us to customise the resource specifically for Learning4Content. So some of the existing content may not be relevant - for example drawing up budget proposals etc.
Basically a facilitator must do two things:
1) Find at least 15 educators who want training and who will sign the learning contract 2) Organise with an institution to host the event (including computer lab.)
Hope this helps.
Cool, I was wondering if I was taking this down the right track. I will adjust that section on Budgets, although I would say that it is a good practice into even if it is a very simple budget costing for say tea/coffee and lunches. I gather you are thinking here that organisers potentially secure a sponsor like the MoE for the workshop in Wellington who took care of sourcing the venue, arranging accommodation etc.
On the pre workshop activity I spoke with wikirandy and he suggested a couple of things. A light introductory video, (which I've had some thoughts on and might try to storyboard with a bit of help from Sean, Brent ans Jenny) and looking at creating pre-workshop task around introducing themselves to the community prior to attending.
I agree always good practice to budget a little. There is some method in my madness to keep Learning4Content within the realms of volunteerism. Having organisations commit something up front, for example a contribution in kind for a computer lab is a way of sifting out committed organisations and individuals and subsequently contribute to the long term sustainability of the project.
We won't get every educator on the planet to buy into the idea of free content - but if we can target the 5% who will - we'll achieve a free curriculum by 2015.
We just need to be clear for the purposes of Learning4Content that we do not create the expectation that COL will be funding full costs. We will be paying a flat-rate honorarium of about $1000 for a three day workshop equivalent.
I think the pre-workshop task - eg completing a printed handout about themselves is a good way to get folk to have content available when they upload their user profiles.
