In the podcast, Every Classroom Matters with Vicky Davis and guest Angela Myers talk about how important it is that every student (and in fact, every person) needs to be reassured that they matter. As parents, family, teachers, friends, colleagues, acquaintances and even total strangers, we can do this. "Remember my name!"

There are plenty of other simple ways to show someone they matter. Just say "you" when you are talking with the person, give them you undivided attention, even if it is just for a minute.

There are plenty of horror stories about that just hurt your heart. The teacher at a parent-teacher conference spent the entire time discussing the work of the other kid in her 175 students with the same name as the parent's child. The kid who wished a teacher knew his name.

There are stories of amazing people who made a huge impact on hundreds of others. The coach who said something positive and personal about every one of the 300+ kids on the wrestling team in an awards ceremony. Acquaintances who address you by name at a large social event. Teachers who meet every child in the hall and welcome them by name into class every day. Feels good just thinking about these magic moments! These only take a moment, and they add up to something amazing - YOU MATTER.
