Proposed by Alex Haas.

Below is my first proposition for the additional course work:

Outline

At the least:

I can follow the course's assignments and then mirror those assignments on a website I'll create from the ground up - something I've not yet done before as in the past I have used services and borrowed scripts. This includes settings up the Linux box and then properly configuring the installation of the JVM. I would continue by writing a Java program that is interactive to the user in some way.

At the most:

I can do the above but improve by creating a more interleaved and powerful Java presence, which is of course closer to my ultimate goal. This could even include using publicly available scripts and figuring out how to integrate them into the existing Java framework.

I hesitate to commit to "the most" as I don't want to overbite and under perform, but I would still enjoy the opportunity to aim for that possibility.

This is a very ambitious project. It will be a great learning experience. Including publicly available scripts is a good way to approach a project this big.

  • Can you chuck this up so there are multiple "deliverables" or check points? Having to report or submit something about every 5-7 days will help you stay on track. It will be a big help for tracking your progress.
  • Even if you don't get everything done, providing regular code and/or reports will be useful in determining how long the work is taking.
  • Do you have access to everything you will need for setting up the Linux box and then properly configuring the installation of the JVM? Or is this one of the items that you will have to research as part of the project?

Great kick off. Thanks! Looking forward to see more in the coming weeks.
