Education Zone @ New Smyrna Beach Balloon and Sky Fest - April 5,6,7 2013

Heads up! We want you to be part of the Education Zone at the NSB Balloon and Sky Fest 2013.

We are busy planning for the next New Smyrna Beach (NSB) Balloon and Sky Fest (BSF) scheduled for April 5,6,7, 2013.

This year, we will be providing "pods" - either individual or shared to organizations participating in the NSB BSF Education Zone - the site of hands-on aviation activities, robotics demonstrations and lively interviews with aerospace news-makers.

Please join us as one of a special group of organizations that promote aviation, aerospace, science and technology. It isn't too early to start thinking about the NSB Balloon and Sky Fest 2013. We would like to meet to discuss your needs so we can coordinate with the Balloon and Sky Fest planning committee.

If you have questions about NSB Balloon and Sky Fest 2013, please let us know. We'll be following up in the next couple of weeks.

2012 Wrap-up, CBB

BSF 2012 Mar 23-25, 2012 http://seasideballoonfest.com/

http://NewSmyrnaBeachBalloonFest.com

Attendance for 2012 was 37,000 total for the weekend. Of those attendees, 16% were from out of town and stayed over at least one night in this area.

  • CBB - interviews with performers - ** just pick them up with golf cart from VIP tent and drive them to ED Zone, make arrangements with performer scheduler(s) to include Ed Zone in itinerary - Golden Knights - have detailed schedule -- Roxy
  • paper planes - about 350 produced by Pahan, about 300 used - none Sat after 5pm due to weather - good activity, good design, good difficulty, most kids left with them - not evidence of garbage, volunteers made some ahead for little kids, little kids need more help - 1 on 1, coach bigger kids first and get them out flying in front yard, some interest in resources, don't need instructions on plane page, use space for logos, more educational information, etc. - remained donated to Burns Sci Tech
  • CBB - work with ERAU - visit their tent, talk with/educate their volunteers - outreach to them
  • balsa gliders - didn't use, needs more organization, bigger groups of kids for "competition"
  • robotics - missed - had been great hit in 2011, conflict with spring break 2012 so no presence - have FIRST guy at minimum, ERAU Mechanical Eng mentors
  • Scouting - boys, girls - really need to have them there - important link from aviation to well-known kids groups
  • need better signs, locator - too many people couldn't find it, small blue sign inadequate - need banners, balloons, flags - better "visibility" from ALL sides - Wings and Wheels (TW&W) blank tent wall on main paved path to flightline, well back from intersection, no connection with ERAU
  • volunteers - Sally's list, repeat actual participants from 2012 - several sick, late, left early * desirable volunteer posting
  • tent good size for exhibits there - Marine Discovery, NASA Launch Services, Burns Sci Tech, Timeless Wings & Wheels Museum, Bristow Helicopter Academy, Daytona Beach Radio Control Assoc., Education Zone paper airplanes
  • would be nice to have better connection to Embry-Riddle - more coordinated presence, activities, ERAU staff know who / what Ed Zone is...
  • Bristow helicopter was a brig attraction - brought people in
  • paper planes - good design, could advertise more, links ok, don't really need instructions, have some ready made to give to little kids, fly out front of tent as attraction
  • don't borrow personal equipment such as generators - should be supplied as part of setup, along with tables, chairs, lights, tent
  • DBRCA - own display / tent - big attraction so keep within Education Zone area, big fenced off area to fly by wire
  •  ? TW&W - own tent + Ed Zone tent ? why both or better integrate display in Ed Zone tent
  • Boy Scouts / Girl Scouts ? actual badge activities - help kids build planes?
  • EAA Young Eagles ? signups, contact - other local chapters - Merritt Island
  • robotics - Spruce Creek US FIRST - very popular in 2011, no presence in 2012 because of spring break ?? 2013

New Smyrna Beach Balloon & Sky Fest April 8-10, 2011

NSB BSF Education Zone web page

We would like to invite you to participate as Education Zone presenters at the New Smyrna Beach Balloon & Sky Fest on April 8-10, 2011 at the NSB airport.

The Education Zone will feature exhibits and demonstrations for kids and educators. Exhibitors include NASA - Manned and Unmanned, Embry Riddle, several local aviation groups, and science discovery organizations.

We would like you to be available to answer questions about your program for kids, parents, educators and the general public.
