• student emails - Instead of exit slips to check understanding at the end of a lesson, my students email me what they have learned and any questions they still have. I post a question or quick task on the board. Students answer the question in an email and send it to me.

STORY: Learner mobility is not a new phenomenon. Families with kids have had to move and change locations and schools for many reasons - jobs, family changes, special needs. Depending on the usual-ness of this, some schools have had to deal with the situations, while for others, neighborhoods and school populations are unchanged from kindergarten through high school. Inner city schools everywhere are frequently facing surprises, not knowing until the first day of school who will be attending. Sorting kids into grade levels and classes happens in the first week of school and remains fluid throughout the school year.
